All these connections and reconnections with the (mostly kinda peripheral) characters involved in this double wedding have been so much fun to watch. Nancy and Clyde going on a date is probably the most I’ve liked Clyde maybe ever? Jennifer’s reaction to Gwen and Xander’s wedding being a double wedding with Leo and Craig was also great. The internet seemed to get a kick out of Melissa Reeves being back on DAYS so Jennifer could attend the gay wedding of characters played by two gay actors, though I’m sure Missy knew what she was getting into when she agreed to these appearances.

Craig and Nancy being split up for this farce of a storyline has been atrocious. And then, on top of that, Nancy is paired with rapist Clyde.
We’ll never be rid of daytime’s worst head writer ever.

I guess I am the only one on here who agrees with you – I really think Ron is a terrible headwriter. The writers on the show save him with individually well-written scenes and even full episodes every once in a while but the overall storyline arcs are horrible…
ReplyCopy URLApril 22, 2022 at 7:33 am #1204927162I think the last five or so episodes focusing on the two weddings were mostly a lot of fun and a really enjoyable week of soap. Watching Abigail expose Gwen’s treacheries and Gwen getting arrested was satisfying. Abigail sure made a meal out of those revelations. Gwen saying that she killed Laura on purpose threw me for a loop. It’s never really mattered to me whether she meant to do it or not, as many people, including me, were pretty much done with her after that. But I wonder if this will go anywhere. I didn’t love seeing Leo get outed as a gold-digging schemer — I would greatly prefer if Brady and Chloe just eventually had to get over it and deal with Craig and Leo being married — but I’m interested to see what he’ll do next. Gold diggers do not fare well on this show, unless they somehow prove they have purer intentions. The logic of this reveal doesn’t really make sense.
While I wouldn’t say Ron is a terrible headwriter or the worst ever, I do think his ideas run the gamut from great to truly abysmal, and the show should be doing more to stop the abysmal ideas because they make it onto the show. I don’t like what they did with Craig and Nancy — no one did — and I think I’m also on the record as wishing Clyde would leave and never come back, but given where we are, these wedding episodes have been good uses of the characters and situations. Justin having to stall to give Chad time to break up the wedding the other day was pretty clever, very meta.

He worked on Love of Life, Search For Tomorrow, and since 1985 has played Victor Kiriakis on Days Of Our Lives, his signature role. Congratulations to him on this honor.

I’m glad we’ve gotten back to the story with Jan being pregnant with Shawn’s baby and the smoldering chemistry between Belle and EJ. I also have to say, Ava has really grown on me as a character. She’s in a good lane now where she’s fairly villainous but not an outright psycho who is kidnapping people and what have you. Having her and Jake as scene partners is helpful for me as well in terms of tolerating Jake.
ReplyCopy URLMay 3, 2022 at 10:14 am #1204940871I’m catching up on the show after having been away for a few days, and powered through four good/great episodes last night. It’s great that people are finally realizing that Belle was never possessed, Johnny was possessed, and Allie is possessed. I’m also enjoying seeing the emotional fallout from a lot of the Devil’s machinations, like Chanel realizing it was the Devil that dumped her as both Johnny and Allie, EJ leaning on Rafe of all people about not realizing his son was possessed, Ben being confronted once again with his serial killer past, and of course the fun of Jan Spears wreaking further havoc on Belle and Shawn’s relationship. People turning to Marlena for all manner of help with these possession issues, like she’s a superhero, is also pretty great. I also like the Kayla is super pissed about having been fired from the hospital while Craig got to keep the chief of staff job despite also not firing Marlena.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Sami and Lucas are finally back. Lucas has now not only kidnapped Sami and framed EJ, but also kept her away from Salem when both of her twins were possessed by the Devil.

ReplyCopy URLMay 4, 2022 at 10:30 am #1204941859Greg Rikaart said in an interview maybe a month or so ago that he was still filming at the show, so I expect he’ll be around on screen for a good while still. I haven’t seen anything about Patrika Darbo leaving, but I could see Nancy and Craig just going back to New York together. They’ve already moved into best friend territory. Leo, meanwhile, seems intent on revenge, at least against Chad and Sonny. I loved their scenes in yesterday’s episode, with Sonny taking serious offense to Leo’s claims that he was bad in bed.
Excellent performance from Emily O’Brien yesterday. I’m glad that Gwen told Xander where the antidote was and this wasn’t yet another way to get yet another criminal a ridiculous immunity deal.

Seems like Lani graduated from the Hope Williams Brady School of policing, where you show up at the crime scene and immediately shoot at the perp. (Excellent tactic on a soap, less so in real life, LOL.) William Christian has been great in the role of TR, and I’d love to see him get a guest performer nomination next year.
I’m glad they’ve finally revealed the Devil’s intentions for Ben and Ciara’s baby, and it kind of makes sense that the Devil would want a permanent earthly vessel and use a baby to get that.
ReplyCopy URLMay 13, 2022 at 3:27 am #1204950876TR was about to hit Paulina when Lani shot him but the direction in the scene failed that. Just so Lani could pull a Hope. Sighs. Drama can be milked from Lani feeling guilt without putting Paulina in prison. And they could’ve kept TR alive long enough to need a transfusion and reveal that he’s not her dad. Leading to the bombshell that Abe IS her daddy. Paulina then goes to TR’s room, drops the bombshell and he dies from a heart attack. Then she and Abe remember their long ago drunken one night stand.
Oh wait…lol!
ReplyCopy URLMay 13, 2022 at 8:12 am #1204950983Ha! I wish! “Tamara had just left town. I went to Miami to try to get her back but she rejected me. I really tied one on that night, went home with the prettiest girl at the bar. I never saw her again . . .” That could be part of the plot of season three of Beyond Salem. I hope this all doesn’t drag out too long. Maybe putting Paulina in police custody is a way of giving Jackee more time to recover from whatever has been preventing her from standing/walking in scenes?
As much as I’ve been pretty done with Gwen basically since she killed Laura, I was really moved by her scenes yesterday. Emily O’Brien is finally getting writing that is at least somewhat sympathetic, and she’s really making it work.

And, Matt Ashford, with her. I’m afraid they’re going to play it that Gwen only said she killed Laura to get under Abby’s skin. Back to not knowing but suspecting plenty.

I completely agree that he’s a terrible HW. Now, whether I would say he’s the worst ever, I’m not sure I could do. James Lipton comes to mind, Megan McTavish, Chuck Pratt, Jr., And, apparently he can do better & just isn’t doing so. I don’t envy them their problems being broke & having a 7 month lag time, plus the way they rotate cast in & out would make it difficult to do a real satisfying umbrella s/l. All of that said, I still think it’s his actual choices that are maybe killing the show.
