I know I’m in the minority on this board, but I love the devil possession storyline. The show needs a permanent villain like it used to have with Stefano, but now that Stefano is gone, the devil is filling that void. I would be ok without the devil as long as there was a villain without any redeeming qualities. It’s not fun when you have someone do bad things and then have remorse for them later on. That’s what made Stefano so great. He never tried to be this lovable guy.May 15, 2022 at 9:52 pm #1204953276
I really do miss the presence of Stefano or someone like him. Stefano was great because, as you said, they never tried to make him into a guy that people would love, but also he was a character with a lot of dimension and history and a huge impact on so much of the canvas. This is probably part of why the constant in and out with the various villains doesn’t sit all that well with me. I think the biggest problem with doing the Devil long-term is just what Freeman has been pointing out. There’s already a pretty big disconnect between what the Devil actually accomplishes and how powerful he seems to be, and if he were around long-term, that would be even more of an issue. That said, if something were to go awry with this ritual and the Devil somehow ended up permanently possessing a character, like Evan or someone like that, but became a lot less powerful, that could have some potential.
Also, I wouldn’t say Ron’s decisions are killing the show, since the show seems to be thriving. Peacock is cancelling series that I would assume are popular and making more Beyond Salem.May 16, 2022 at 6:40 pm #1204954192
I watched today’s episode – I know others really like the camp on offer from Days but count me out. I just find in not only silly but not even well done.
So they have decided to get rid of Tripp ): I really like Tripp and will miss him. Lucas Adams has been wonderful in the role but somehow they always made him the loser in love, which sorry but that’s ridiculous! (;
Ghost Bo was a surprise. I knew he was coming back for Beyond Salem but didn’t know he would be doing a guest stint on Days (he’s going to be visiting Steve too from what I have read). But why can’t we also have real live Hope too? Maybe it’s coming soon?
I need for Sami and Will to return to Salem.May 17, 2022 at 5:45 am #1204954535
I’ll be so glad once this possession mess of a storyline comes to a close. NOT happy about Tripp dying……….
Ghost Bo was a surprise but it’s good to see Peter Reckell again!May 17, 2022 at 8:13 am #1204954634
Given the way this show works, I’m still hoping that Tripp won’t be DEAD dead or at least not long-term dead (LOL that this is even a thing), because I do like the character a lot. It is sad that she’s been thrown over so many times, for Joey, Ben, JJ and Chanel. While I found the scenes with Ciara, Ben, and Devil Allie to be kind of hilarious (though honestly these actors are doing the same stuff that actors in superhero movies do, just with less time and money for finishing effects), I thought the scenes in St. Luke’s with the callback to a possessed Marlena setting fire to it decades ago was really good. It was also glad to finally have Marlena, John, and Eric all back in the major action of the story.
The best moment of the episode, though, was when Jan saw Marlena and thought she was still possessed. “Lucifer! It’s been so long!” With the very funny follow-up that Lucifer was basically the best friend she ever had, besides Claire. Claire! (Isabel Durant’s Claire reacting to all of this possession stuff would be a riot.) Maybe it Jan had more friends she would do fewer crazy things.May 17, 2022 at 11:29 am #1204954818
I called it about Ghost Bo propping up the serial killer. SMH!May 17, 2022 at 1:45 pm #1204954878
Tripp was “dead” for only ten minutes! Only in Salem (; (and Dr. Rolfe was nowhere near when it happened!)
Drats to No Sami ): Sami really needed to be around for her children in the storyline. I thought Ali was coming back to the show?May 18, 2022 at 3:25 am #1204955244

Steve Burton will be reprising his first ever soap role as Harris on Days Of Our Lives, which he played way back in 1988, in the new Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem. I don’t remember his stint way back then but apparently he played a villain. SB mentions that he has scenes with Kristian Alfonso in the limited series that will air in July…
The fakeout of Tripp’s death was, um, interesting…May 18, 2022 at 9:34 am #1204955641
I remembered yesterday that Lucas Adams was in the announced cast for the upcoming season of Beyond Salem, at which point I was pretty sure Ghost Bo was going to revive him. I’m more concerned about all this interaction with Ghost Bo possibly indicating that Bo won’t be actually alive in Beyond Salem. There are ways around it, of course, but I don’t know what they’ll do.
Very good performances across the board yesterday for the duration of time where Tripp was dead. Lucas Adams was a real champ, lying perfectly corpse-like while people cried in the foreground and Ava even climbed onto the gurney with Tripp to sob over and embrace him.
I know Sami will be back eventually, and I’m assuming that when we’re close to that happening, the show will be letting us know it. At least Lucas finally showed up, with an excuse for why Sami can’t travel.May 19, 2022 at 9:18 am #1204956738
Where has Chanel been? She was absent from the climax of the possession story, despite being the only person who the Devil really messed with while possessing Marlena, Johnny and Allie, and now she’s not around for the stuff with her family either? Maybe she’ll pop up again soon.
Poor Xander. It seems that in becoming a better person he’s lost his ability to plan and execute a decent scheme. One of the actual villains on this show — Kristen, Ava, Gwen, Gabi — would have had much more of a plan to address bringing Sarah home while trying not to tell her about what happened with Mickey and Rachel.May 21, 2022 at 11:10 pm #1204959846

I think what they’re doing with Beyond Salem is really the future of soaps. I’m surprised its success hasn’t led to Y&R or B&B doing something on Paramount+ or GH doing something on Hulu. What an amazing moment it would be if Beyond Salem were to win the Drama Series Emmy.May 22, 2022 at 8:05 pm #1204960614
It would be cool if Beyond Salem won, but if anything, they’d likely only take directing, maybe writing, but most likely directing.May 23, 2022 at 9:14 am #1204961226
It’s hard to gauge how strong a chance Beyond Salem has (though I’d say its drama series odds are at least better than B&B’s), but it would be quite something if it won the big award. At that point, you probably would see the other shows planning for something similar.
All of the DiMera shenanigans are pretty nonsensical. EJ and Chad alerted Li Shin that they were calling a shareholder meeting later that same day? ABSURD. And they can just call a new meeting every time they want to try to oust the CEO? Also, I don’t even so much mind that they keep switching CEOs, but it seems so bizarre that people like EJ, Chad, and Gabi tend to either be CEO or not working at the company at all. The tension would be so much better if the people who were trying to become CEO had to work under the CEO they failed to oust, etc.May 26, 2022 at 5:26 pm #1204964770
Rafe and Nicole are awful together.
The casting for the show is usually good but the little girl playing Holly…Not now
