The dialogue was absolutely delicious on Tuesday’s 1/7 show. Loved it when Julie ran into Lani and proclaimed, “Well, if it isn’t the flying nun!” It’s always such a treat when Carolyn Culliton graces us with one of her sharp scripts as she does here (that goes for Richard Culliton on the following day’s episode, too)!January 13, 2020 at 9:03 am #1203281196
Freeman, I think your assessment about things feeling expository rather than action forward is a really good description of why the time jump is a dangerous tool. The show becomes so focused on things we don’t know because they happened during the jump that stories can become, or at least feel, very stagnant. I’ve enjoyed that over the past week, things are moving at least, with Victor’s stroke, Ben’s final appeal, and Kristen and Lani both putting plans into action. I’m looking forward to Gabi finally getting busted, which I hope happens soon. I also frankly don’t care what Kristen does to Brady and Nicole. They kind of deserve it. It is astounding the way Nicole constantly gets men lining up to protect her, like she’s so fragile. Brady and Eric take turns doing this (Daniel used to be in the rotation as well), and then they act shocked when they find out she’s done something underhanded, which she always does.
Stephen Nichols has been doing an excellent job playing Steve as Stefano and as Steve as Stefano pretending to be Steve. I would have cited him for a couple of performances over the last week or so, but the storyline is so outlandish I just don’t think there’s a hook for getting a nomination with this material. It’s fun to watch, though, even if it’s ridiculous.
Ron Carlivati said the flashback week was coming toward the end of January. I think it may be next week. I am very eager to find out what happened to Adrienne, though it does seem fairly clear at this point that Xander and Victor framed Will for it. I’m curious as to who really killed Jordan, but the show hasn’t bothered developing any mystery around it. Evan is now being weird, and was basically saying it’s a good thing someone good rid of Jordan, so maybe he’s involved. We also still don’t know who David’s father is, so maybe that’s Evan or Evan is somehow involved with that.January 13, 2020 at 11:08 am #1203281634
I definitely heard a rumor, that Evan is Bisexual, is David’s dad, and is the one who killed Jordan. That Jordan was trying to protect David from him, and that he is psycho. I feel like because Evan is a short-term character, that he will probably try and kidnap David, most likely sometime when Rafe is at some adoption court case, and at that time, someone else will have become suspicious of him and be investigating him, so when Rafe comes home to find them both gone, someone will come to confront Evan, and them and Rafe will go after Evan and bring home baby David safely.January 13, 2020 at 11:12 am #1203281656
^I have heard that rumor too. Obstacles for Will and Sonny is what Evan is turning out to be.
I also heard that Maggie killed Adrienne and that Victor framed Will for her murder. Obstacles for Will and Sonny yet again!January 13, 2020 at 4:26 pm #1203282609
It would be convenient to throw both Jordan’s murder and David’s paternity onto Evan, but that also feels like bad/lazy writing. Let’s just bring in a character out of nowhere and use him to solve all of our storyline problems. It would be way more interesting if they had Evan be bisexual and David’s dad and then maybe give him a reason for keeping it a secret, like maybe he saw Jordan’s dead body first and left, develop him a little more and let someone else be Jordan’s killer. Surely there’s some character we actually know who’s been on the show in the last couple of years who could have killed Jordan. Hell, blame is on Princess Gina who, in a moment of instinctive protectiveness for Ciara, got into a fight with Jordan and killed her. There just seem to be so many better options for interesting storytelling than a random guy who just showed up.
Maggie killing Adrienne would kind of mesh with what’s been written so far, as the two people who would most quickly jump to defend her are Victor and Xander, but I’m not sure there’s a way to have that make any sense. What would be better is if Victor and Xander think Maggie killed Adrienne, and so framed Will, but it was actually someone else. These stories that are essentially meant to shock the audience work better if they incorporate some actual surprising elements along the way and also if they don’t do things like turn a beloved heroine into a killer. Just my two cents!January 13, 2020 at 4:31 pm #1203282619
RC tends to repeat himself often and psychos out of nowhere are one of them. I actually like Evan. So we know what that means. Bisexual baby daddy killer. Jordan turning psycho was out of character for her too. Another one of Ron’s tics.January 14, 2020 at 9:06 am #1203283740
I like Evan, too. I know Will and Sonny are a popular pair and maybe the show doesn’t feel it’s smart to present a sustained obstacle for them, but it’s kind of irritating feeling like they’re bringing in guys for a few months to come between them and then everything goes back to normal. I guess if Christopher Sean hadn’t left, things could be different with Paul around. But the fact that they’re getting divorced now over will killing Adrienne (which he apparently didn’t), and Sonny is with Evan (who will likely not be a viable love interest). Also, if the rumors about Evan are true, it feels extremely out of step for the show to introduce a character who is revealed to be bisexual and also a psycho. The show can sustain something like the Eric/Nicole/Brady/Kristen (formerly with Daniel and Jennifer, now with Sarah and Xander) for years; I wish Will and Sonny could get a story hook with anywhere near that level of sustainability over time.January 14, 2020 at 9:18 am #1203283768
Michael, I liked your ideas of how to salvage these stories (: Perhaps they ought to hire you as head-writer? (;
I think they could do a recast of Paul – he has had relationships with both Sonny and Will, which certainly is different! (or bring Christopher Sean back if he wishes to return to daytime)
It’s irritating how we go from one set of stories to a completely different set of stories the next day often lately. I want to hear the rest of the conversation between Victor and Ciara.
Of course we’ve been hearing rumors and they may not pan out as true stories for the show.
Looking forward to the flackback week!January 15, 2020 at 9:38 am #1203286036
Thanks, Freeman! I agree that a Paul recast could be good to have around. He’s a character who, in addition to having two significant exes in town also has his father and brother, not to mention a job with a purpose that could add something interesting to some of the other storylines. Imagine if Paul, rather than Evan who we’ve just met, was the person getting closer to Sonny while Will is in prison? That’s clearly a much stronger storyline. Okay, I’ll stop trying to rewrite all of the storylines now.
It was nice getting a Kristen/Stefano scene, but it feels underwhelming that it had neither Joe Mascolo nor Eileen Davidson. The writing team has at least made this version of Kristen into someone who is more sustainable without being completely out of character (i.e., something between the absolute maniac she was up until she got pregnant and wilting flower she became once she was pregnant), and Stacy Haiduk is making her entertaining. Still, it feels like a different character from Kristen. Also, didn’t it seem odd that it was supposed to be at least something of a secret that Chad had been in touch with Stefano, but Abigail just talked about it in front of Steve like it was no big deal?
I’m glad Victor finally told Ciara about whatever really happened to Adrienne and that he and Xander framed Will for it. Just think of how much progress Ciara could have made in figuring out who killed Jordan if she hadn’t spent the last 14 months assuming it was Victor and Xander!January 17, 2020 at 5:58 am #1203288895
Looks like Days and the other daytime shows are going to be pre-empted starting on Next Tuesday? ): Just when I was looking forward to the flashbacks to what happened on that “dreadful night”.
Can we get back to what Victor told Ciara please?January 17, 2020 at 10:57 am #1203289420
Today’s episode was extremely strong, with terrific performances by everyone, particularly Chandler Massey and Freddie Smith as Will and Sonny sign their divorce papers. I love that the episode ends with Ciara visiting Will and telling him he didn’t kill Adrienne.January 20, 2020 at 8:19 am #1203294825
If impeachment coverage overtakes the show during normal airing, I’ll have to watch it on demand or online. On the one hand, I like knowing that DAYS will pretty much always make that day’s episode available, even if it doesn’t air on television because of news and interruptions. On the other hand, what bad timing. Anyone who’s been watching since the time jump is likely eager to see this flashback week, and now it may barely see the light of day.
The show has done a pretty good job leading up to the flashback week, setting it up for Ciara to now be telling Will that he didn’t kill Adrienne, having Sarah and Eric get testing to determine their potential compatibility to be baby Mickey’s bone marrow donor, and stirring things up with Brady and Kristen. I agree about the performances, and I thought Chandler Massey was especially good.January 20, 2020 at 11:51 am #1203295187
Today’s episode was superb! So great to see Judi Evans! (: We aren’t a full year back, we are on Mother’s day – two babies are about to born and I smell yet another daytime baby switch happening ):
I was distracted by Will’s green shirt, lol! IDK if it was the lighting but it looked sweaty or something?
I have read that soaps will be postponed until after the trial; we’ll know tomorrow if it’s true or not… just when the show was getting really interesting!!!January 21, 2020 at 9:17 am #1203296489
Wally Kurth posted yesterday encouraging fans to watch the show online or on demand while the air shows are pre-empted for impeachment trial coverage, so I think they’re still planning to release a new episode every day, regardless of news coverage.
I enjoyed the episode, with my only real gripe being that I didn’t love watching it through that flashback filter they use that makes everything a little blurred and overly contrasted.
Brady and Eric both act like such children sometimes. They were going over to see Marlena for Mother’s Day, and neither of them could think past their own BS to just make it a nice experience for her. Brady bringing Kristen with him was especially ridiculous.
Looking forward to seeing what happens next!January 21, 2020 at 1:22 pm #1203297170
Today’s episode was great! Pretty much every single cast member shined with a memorable performance! Suzanne Rogers, Marie Wilson, Judi Evans, Chandler Massey, Freddie Smith, Paul Telfer, John Aniston, Leann Hunley, Billy Flynn, Camila Banus… I think we are being shown why Will thinks Adrienne’s death is his fault but there will be more to it than what meets the eye…
I do have one question though: why was this episode only 33 minutes long? Are there really 27 minutes of commercials? It seemed shorter than usual?
