I love how everyone else from the explosion went to the hospital either for their medical issues or to support the injured, while Marlena, covered in soot and smoke, just went home, where she is assailed by Kristen, queen of the harpies. It’s a bummer that no one was really injured in the explosion, which looked great and was well executed. It makes the whole thing feel like kind of a dud, and also I fear means that Ava will just keep getting away with things. Maybe someone will have a reaction that’s slightly delayed, like how it took Lulu several episodes to slip into her coma on GH after the Floating Rib bombing.
Also, Eric going to the hospital to check on Nicole and then being mad that she’s being well cared for by EJ, and not even checking on his mother who was also in the explosion, is such Rafe-level loser behavior I can’t even take it. I’m fine with Eric being angry, boozy, slutty, etc., but he needs to be better than this.December 21, 2022 at 10:30 am #1205204377
I saw that yesterday was Tamara Braun’s last air date as Ava Vitali. I wonder if she will show up on one of the other shows?
I never thought I would say this but I haven’t really been missing Days. I suspect if Sami and Chandler’s version of Will were regulars I would be but without them (and I know Chandler is doing another guest stint, but I will get to see it in its entirely – shhh!) the show just isn’t worth the hassle of the writing, which I personally don’t find to be all that good.December 26, 2022 at 10:52 am #1205209996
John Aniston’s last episode – he shares scenes with Greg Rikaart as Leo and Zack Tinker as Sonny. Quick with the one-liners as always. Boy, we will all miss him so much as Victor! (: (: (:December 28, 2022 at 9:58 am #1205211870
The John Aniston tribute at the end of Monday’s episode was nice. I can’t believe there won’t be any more Victor on our screens.
I thought this year’s Horton gathering for the hanging of the ornaments was really nicely done. A lot of people were gathered, we had a couple of homecomings, and there were plot elements from the current story sprinkled in. My only really complaint about the holiday episodes is that we didn’t see Marlena and John at all. They could have at least stopped by the Horton celebration to say hello. It’s great that things are now coming to a head with both Xander’s (and Gwen’s) lies and the budding closeness between Sonny and Leo. The show has done a good job of working Chandler Massey’s absence into the storyline and that contributing to the marital tension. I’m looking forward to all that playing out as well as the impending nuptials of Gabi and Li.December 30, 2022 at 6:33 pm #1205214680
Anyone order a hooker? Some Victor lines were so good! And the delivery was spot on!January 3, 2023 at 8:05 am #1205219338
The whole sleeping with Sloan business aside, I think I love this bad version of Eric? The way he is working this kidnapping plot is hilarious and insane. Just texting demands to Kristen from a few feet away? Giving Rachel to Sloan, his lawyer, to watch? Casually eating a sandwich when Kristen and Brady show up? Unreal.
The unfortunate downside of DAYS acknowledging holidays that are close together, particularly Christmas and New Year’s Eve, is that things that were happening around or on Christmas get ditched to deal with things that are happening on NYE, and we’re just kind of left to wonder the status. It’s been a week now since Sarah busted Xander and Gwen, and I guess we’re just to assume that Sarah hasn’t told anyone in this time? Also last we saw Will, he was storming out of the room because Sonny refused to kick Leo out. Did Will just go back to LA without seeing his daughter or either of the grandmothers who just narrowly escaped death? Normally we could just pretend that it’s still the same day or perhaps the next day, but in this case, we know it’s been a week.
I think the drama has been good, though. I’m really enjoying the sweet and complex sibling relationship between Li and Wendy. And while I get that Stefan is averse to Gabi, it seems crazy that his response to her telling him that Li had Rolf brainwash him was to just reaffirm his commitment to Chloe and carry on.January 3, 2023 at 8:44 am #1205219365
I have heard that a long-term character is going to die – but with Dr. Rolf around who knows if it will be permanent??? Haven’t heard if this particular performer is leaving the show or not…
EmmyLoser (Michael): I have sent you a PM!January 4, 2023 at 10:13 am #1205220433
Rumors or blind items about DAYS characters dying are very difficult to parse because characters are dying constantly! Would this be a separate death from Victor’s upcoming death? (I assume that’s what will happen, but the show could play more of a shell game, like they did with Stefano for a while). Then of course there was the long preview that showed Kate, Kayla and Marlena dying and visiting heaven (Kate going to heaven is hilarious), and presumably that is not what it seems, but Soap Opera Digest was also saying that Kate is going to die, so maybe that one will stick? Who knows.
I’m glad we’ve finally gotten back to the Xander situation and the conflict between Sonny and Will.
Freeman, I just responded to your message!January 5, 2023 at 10:17 am #1205221701
I’m sorry, hearing Bonnie go on and on about the trauma of being kidnapped, when she knows full well she wasn’t the target of the kidnapping but just had to be tied up while the actual kidnapped person was moved elsewhere and then was let go, was bad enough. This level of righteous indignation from a woman who put an innocent woman in prison and assumed her life and quite recently shot and killed someone is beyond the pale. It’s also worth noting that if Bonnie hadn’t stolen that million dollar case of cash from Xander, he wouldn’t have been in the dire financial straits that made him agree to do the kidnapping in the first place. It’s infuriating.January 6, 2023 at 9:53 am #1205223725
Next time someone suggests to Brady that they kidnap his daughter, he should probably ask to see their business plan, because oh boy did Eric not have this one thought out! He had like 2/5 of a plan. Also Greg Vaughan continuing to deliver on his dramatic lines like he didn’t have a face full of cartoon princess makeup and butterfly clips all in his hair? I love it.January 9, 2023 at 6:57 am #1205228239
It’s hard to get all worked up over Kate’s death and the potential deaths of Kayla and Marlena – this show has been way too cavalier with death by having Dr. Rolf around to resurrect them. It was great that they brought Will back but when they do it all the time it loses its value and its impossible for me as a viewer to invest in grieving – contrast this with Britt’s death on GH – yes, GH has resurrected plenty of characters with flimsy explanations, certainly true of Victor, but it is likely that Britt really is dead and therefore the grief is greater as a viewer.
I have been struck by how much I dislike the writing on Days. I don’t watch the show very much lately but when I do it’s not very good imo. I suppose how much you loved it in the past might matter, right? Days was only my favorite show from 2011-17.January 9, 2023 at 2:16 pm #1205229444
Quinn Redeker has passed away ): He played Alex Marshall on Days from 1980-86 – he was a complex villain. Then he played Rex Sterling on Y&R (I think 1988-1994?). He wrote the story for the Oscar-winning motion picture The Deer Hunter for which he received an Oscar nomination. He was 86 years old.January 11, 2023 at 9:45 am #1205236505
I can understand that people have a hard time with how often characters die and then get resurrected on DAYS, but it really doesn’t bother me. People have always come back from the dead on soaps, and I think DAYS creating a narrative, albeit absurd, explanation for how this can happen on a regular basis was basically a compliment to the viewers — obviously, if the show wants to kill a character and then bring them back, or get them to the brink of death and then pull them back, they can make up any number of excuses for it. Now they’re just being more upfront about it.
The Friday and Monday episodes were total tearjerkers for me with Kate and Kayla dying. I don’t need to feel like I’m losing these characters to invest in the pain, sadness and desperation that Kate, Kayla, Marlena, and their loved ones all feel because they believe that these women are dying and there’s nothing to be done to help them, especially when the actors do such a marvelous job bringing this all to the screen. I also have no idea how the show will proceed with undoing this, as we assume they will, so that’ll be interesting. Based on the way Rolf’s resurrection serum works, and his currently being in Indonesia, I don’t think that would be an option.January 11, 2023 at 3:28 pm #1205237709
So it turns out Days has “won” the WGA award for the very odd reason that none of the other shows submitted for consideration. Why would that be? Did they all just forget to submit? It’s very strange!January 11, 2023 at 6:26 pm #1205237943
looks like they summited the double wedding blow up which I can see winning away. Not now
