Thankfully Days has been airing in my area (New York area too). The cast definitely delivered in the flashback episodes. Freddie Smith broke my heart in his scenes. It’s too bad we will probably never see his brothers. I always thought Xander should’ve been Justin’s Alexander. Adrienne raised him too. Interestingly enough, Kayla and Adrienne both named one of their sons Joey.January 27, 2020 at 10:22 am #1203314606
I agree, the Friday episode was good, but not as exciting as the Tuesday through Thursday episodes. I assumed there would be sort of a downshift on Friday where word was spreading about Adrienne’s death, Will’s assumed culpability, Haley’s death, and the baby’s death, and everyone would be pretty somber. But it was a good cap to a very good week of storytelling. I loved the way the show used the end scenes from the previous Friday to kick off the episodes this week, and that this week ended with Ciara having told Will everything Victor told her about the night of the accident (which I’m assuming does not include the truth about the baby switch). Scenes from across the week can produce some pretty strong Emmy reels for quite a few people, with many of them going from being happy or at least in some calm state through something terrible and a bit of consequence from that. Freddie Smith, Chandler Massey, Wally Kurth, Eric Martsolf, Suzanne Rogers, and Paul Telfer could all assemble strong reels that tell a great story, though a lot of them will also have some great scenes coming up.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes next, as it seems like Baby Mickey’s parentage might come into question with all the testing they’ll be doing to find a bone marrow donor, and I’m sure Will and Ciara won’t just do nothing about him being wrongly blamed for the accident that killed Adrienne. I’m also eager to get back to Ben’s story, and I still await the day when Eli finds out what Gabi has done. Sadly, I now am even less interested, though, in the story with Gina and Stevano. A week of grounded, human storytelling makes mind-swap shenanigans even less appealing.January 28, 2020 at 2:57 pm #1203317333
the two storylines I am disliking the most are the silly Gina and “Stefano” story, and Brady and Kristen’s relationship – Brady ought not be even speaking to Kristen, it just makes me totally dislike him when I see him in scenes with her, and of course they will be happening for awhile due to this baby switch story ):
I am wanting to see what happens with Maggie the most. I still think we will get a twist and Maggie didn’t do it either. Also: Ben’s story, which is reminding me of when Sami was almost put to death but saved at the last moment (my memory is that Lucas saved her?).
I read about tomorrow’s episode and am inclined to skip it ):January 29, 2020 at 9:37 am #1203318494
Yeah, after more than a week of dealing with the better storylines, we now have to really get back into the Gina and Stevano story. At least Kate and Gina look poised for another showdown, and Shawn is here to look great and also maybe figure out some stuff. It was Shawn who realized that actual Princess Gina wasn’t Hope way back when, so hopefully he can expose her again.
I am kind of glad to see the Gabi/Eli/Lani story picked up again as well. I’m eager to Gabi to be caught and move on to her next scheme, and setting the wedding for Valentine’s Day gives me hope that it’ll happen soon.
I’m also eager to see what else happens with Ben’s story. At this point, they have to do something in terms of progressing things, and since we know Victor and Xander didn’t kill Jordan (as we’ve always known), they’ll have to actually point in another direction now. I hope this execution doesn’t get as far as Sami’s did! Lucas did try to save her by running up to the glass and shouting a confession during the execution, but she was actually saved by Kate, who offered money to a dying henchman’s/hitman’s family to confess to having murdered Franco. The confession happened in time to go through whatever channels and get Sami’s verdict overturned. Kate’s pretty cold, but even she felt too guilty to let Sami be executed for a crime Kate had framed her for to protect Lucas, the actual killer. Kate dragging Sami’s unconscious body across the floor of the Kiriakis mansion, after Sami fainted from seeing her fiance Franco lying there dead, is kind of an all-time classic scene.January 31, 2020 at 1:45 pm #1203322390
I am not happy with the Gina and Stefano storyline at all – it’s truly awful and wish they would abort it and move on to better stories! This is the problem with their filming so far ahead imo.
The only scenes I enjoyed today were the ones featuring Maggie, Zander and Victor. That storyline is interesting.
I knew this week would be a letdown after the great episodes from the last week but I didn’t realize ti would be such a huge letdown!January 31, 2020 at 1:59 pm #1203322414
I haven’t seen today’s episode yet, but I agree that this week was certainly going to be a downshift after the episodes from last week which were not only very well done but also focused on characters and storylines that feel more impactful. On the plus side, at least things are moving along in the Gina/Stevano story. I was glad that Kate finally told someone, though that someone being Hattie and it happening after John and Marlena were already in Stevano’s and Gina’s clutches kind of takes the wind out of those sails. I was also glad that Shawn so quickly figured out that Hope is now Gina, but it makes the folks in Salem who were around for the first time she was Gina seem like real idiots. I’ll give Rafe and Ciara a pass, since they weren’t around when this happened before, and Marlena, because she was mostly out of town during the time jump, but people like John, Roman and Abe have zero excuses. I was also glad to see Anna (and Tony I guess), and watching Stevano try to deal with Anna’s ranting and Tony’s attempts to betray him was pretty funny.
Paul Telfer posted on Twitter earlier this week that he’d just filmed what might be his last scenes ever on DAYS, so I guess he may be leaving the show around the end of summer? Devastating.January 31, 2020 at 2:53 pm #1203322487
Very disappointed about Paul Telfer’s likely leaving the show but they have written him into a corner ): He has simply committed too many heinous crimes that deserve consequences (of course that is also true of Victor lately too). I love Zander! Here’s hoping it’s not permanent and they bring him back eventually!
Maybe GH can find a role for him?
His wife is in NYC about to open in another broadway musical (I saw her in Bright Star a few years ago).January 31, 2020 at 4:06 pm #1203322666
Ugh..GOD no. Paul Telfer deserves way better than Gh. lolJanuary 31, 2020 at 5:53 pm #1203322780
Oh no. Paul deserves flowers for making the insipid Sarah likable. Days better do what they need to do to keep this man on-screen!January 31, 2020 at 9:00 pm #1203323165
I re-read his IG post and he was referring to the time when production shut down. I don’t think he’s going anywhere.February 1, 2020 at 4:14 pm #1203324334
Thanks for the clarification on that, syrus80. Sorry to have created a stir unnecessarily! I saw the post on Twitter and must not have gotten the full context. He certainly does deserve a bonus for making Sarah likable, in spite of the writers’ best efforts to the contrary.February 4, 2020 at 4:04 am #1203329259
I really wish they would just mercifully end this tiresome Stefano and Gina story immediately. I am so bored with it. Get back to Maggie and Will, and Ben’s story too.
Sara telling Zander she loves him was a surprise. We all know where this is going though, heartbreak for Sara when she learns the truth about the baby switch ):
There was a moment yesterday when I thought Marlena might actually be Hattie. It was a strange moment and may have just been an acting choice on Deidre’s part.
I am grateful that Days decided to continue to air their episodes the past two weeks.
I want Victor to get real consequences for his actions, which have harmed so many Salemites.February 4, 2020 at 3:01 pm #1203330018
Chandler Massey was great again today but oy! For gosh sake get yourself out of jail! (; I feel bad for Ciara though.
So they brought back together Eric and Nicole, and Sara with Zander too…
I get so annoyed each time I see Brady even speaking to the murderess/rapist Kristen!
My theory is that Evan killed Jordan and he is the father of David.
My other theory is that Summer was also drunk and on the road and she was the one who caused the accident that killed Adrienne and also Sara’s baby.
Tune in tomorrow, as they used to say! (:February 5, 2020 at 9:52 am #1203331166
Even knowing it’s probably not going to last, it’s so gratifying seeing Sarah tell Xander she’s in love with him — a little tough to believe considering her attitudes toward him have only ranged from appreciatively tolerant to outright repulsed, but I guess it’s never too late for the scales to fall from your eyes. I suppose it’s also nice that Eric and Nicole are back together? I’ve liked Eric more with both Sarah and Jennifer than I do with Nicole, but it seems like the pairing that the audience and the show prefer, so it’s fine. My feelings on Kristen and Brady are mixed. The show is writing Kristen like getting pregnant absolves her of all the horrendous things she did before that, and since then the only really bad thing she’s done is accidentally sort of cause Haley’s deadly fall down the stairs, which, soap opera logic, is actually Victor’s fault. And Brady seems incapable of not wanting to be with her, and at least with Kristen, he’s her top choice, unlike literally any time he’s been with Nicole playing second fiddle to Eric, EJ, Daniel, etc.
Anyway, the Xander/Sarah scenes and the Ben/Ciara scenes were really good. (Well, Ben getting the news about his execution date third-hand instead of from Justin was pretty silly, but otherwise really good.) Given that there are no other suspects on the show right now, Evan does seem the likeliest culprit to have killed Jordan, unless for some insane reason Gina did it. There’s been talk about a surprise death coming up, and I wonder if it will be Victor. He’s been in the hospital for weeks, and has really stepped in it with everything he did during the time jump.
The story with Stevano and Gina keeps being ridiculous. I can’t believe that Roman and Rafe were looking for Marlena and Gina all night and never went to that hideout where Rafe knows Stefano and Gina were hanging out. How dumb can you be? Then both Gina and Stevano thought it was brilliant to put themselves in the position to be blamed for the supposed deaths of their romantic rivals, not to mention thinking that John and Marlena would just believe them. And yes, Marlena is kind of giving off Hattie vibes, and that would be a fun little twist if it were the case. When Marlena complained about being in that stupid chair all night, she totally sounded like Hattie. But then, it may have seemed that way because that’s a much more Hattie thing to say than a Marlena thing. I like Chabigail seeing the portrait of Steve and very quickly surmising that Steve might be Stefano, though I laughed out loud when Abigail said that Stefano is an old man but Steve is young.February 5, 2020 at 10:40 am #1203331234
I didn’t hear anything about a surprise death coming up, but Casey Moss is supposed to be exiting right away, could it be JJ?? It would be awful, but also would give Jack and Jennifer some really good material to work with, as well as the always awesome, Kate mansi.
