Friday’s episode was wonderful (: Lately there have been no “dead spots”, dull passages that I want mercifully over ASAP to get back to the good stuff. Susan and Will, Sami and Marlena, Gabi learning that Will is alive, Sonny and Adrienne’s conversation, Paul’s talk with John, Sami finding Will and Susan on their way out of town – all great stuff! (: So looking forward to what comes next! (: Everybody is delivering top-notch performances. Bravo, Days! (:November 20, 2017 at 10:44 am #1202416033
That was a damn good week of television!
I love that the two main storylines for November sweeps are complete opposites. One compelling, emotional family drama, and the other over the top, back from the dead soap cliché. The acting’s been phenomenal all across the board. I am so impressed with Kristian Alfonso, Deidre Hall and Lauren Koslow. I’ve always known they could give good soap, but I’m floored by the emotional depth they’ve displayed since I started watching again this summer. James Reynolds is a lock for another Emmy nomination and maybe even his first win.
I thought Tyler Christopher wasn’t scheduled to air until 2018 but then he was in the November promo. Does anyone know when his first airdate is?November 20, 2017 at 12:42 pm #1202416138
I was also under the impression that Tyler Christopher (who was looking mighty fine in the brief glimpse in the November preview) wasn’t going to be airing until around or just after the start of the new year. Louise Sorel also appeared in the preview, and I think she isn’t supposed to show up until sometime in December.
And I’ll fully agree on what a great week it was and what great work the cast is doing!
Watching Friday’s episode, I really appreciated the scenes with Susan and Will. Susan can be such an outlandish character, and she’s standing in the way of the characters we love being reunited with a dearly departed loved one, and I love that the writing and Eileen Davidson’s performances really give her good moments of grounding. Watching her tell Will about things from when EJ was a kid, which I assume are actual stories and keepsakes from EJ’s childhood, really drives home the point of how much Susan lost when EJ died. It’s ironic that she and Sami have so little empathy for one another despite suffering the same tragedy. They’ve done a great job with this return for Susan, and I definitely get the feeling ED had a lot to do with the character not just playing like a totally loony cartoon villain.November 20, 2017 at 3:21 pm #1202416260
^interestingly, Sami was empathetic towards Susan on today’s episode in just the way you were describing.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy on today’s show was Adrienne and Justin, as I definitely want Adrienne with Lucas ): Otherwise, it was another terrific episode. Loved Marlena’s expressions when she saw Will again. Will is about to learn the truth, I’m guessing on tomorrow’s show.
It’s been great watching Eileen Davidson’s phenomenal work as Ashley on Y&R then watching her as Susan on Days – talk about two completely different roles!
I am so impressed by Alison Sweeney’s work as Sami – she really is killing it in her scenes. She has been a mama lion for her beloved Will! (:
I don’t believe that Lucas or Kate has been told that Will is alive yet and I look forward to those reunions, esp. Lucas, who has been such a mess over Will’s death. Maybe it will help him to turn things around. If only he still had Adrienne ):
I’ve been noticing a pattern of Monday, Tuesday and Friday being Will’s story days and wonder if that has to do with scheduling of the actors. The past two weeks that has been the case, with no Will on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I so look forward to Days these days! (:November 20, 2017 at 5:16 pm #1202416346
Days of our Lives continued its streak today with another exciting episode.
Susan Banks is such an infuriating character. But it was such a great twist, and a great use of history, for Susan to claim Will as her son. It was a very clever way to transcend the typical amnesia story. Side note: I actually know someone who reminds me of Susan Banks. Hard to believe, I know, but true!
I also really enjoyed the twist of Kate’s involvement with Theo’s shooting and the conflict that ensued between Tripp and Kate. It’s those kind of touches, the domino effects of primary story, that create a great umbrella story.
Alison Sweeney has been consistently amazing. For Best Supporting Actress this year, I think my ballot will be filled with actresses from Days of our Lives.November 21, 2017 at 10:51 am #1202417024
I loved all of the scenes involving Susan, Sami and Will yesterday. It was nice to see Sami connect with Susan on just the level I had been talking about, but of course Susan will have to be dragged out of this delusion kicking and screaming. I also really enjoyed the John/Marlena scenes (it was nice seeing that John is very devoted to Paul but also to Will and doing whatever he can to get his memory back) and the scenes when Marlena first sees Will. Alison Sweeney has been terrific, and I’m eager to see Eileen Davidson add herself to the list of actresses who’ve done a bang-up job in dual roles on DAYS this year by bringing in one of her other characters. It’s really a shame that Daytime Emmy nominations are separated by show, and performers who’ve been working on multiple shows, like ED, Wally Kurth, and Patrika Darbo, get no advantage from that. Also, given how things are going in the story with Will and Susan, I’m really curious what will bring about the stuff with Sami and Ben that was in the preview.
I’m also still not thrilled about Adrienne and Justin being together. Part of me was a little bugged watching the scenes where they have sex again for, I think, the first time since getting back together (and since Justin’s affair). Adrienne’s first time with Lucas after her cancer and mastectomy was played very thoughtfully and with a lot of attention to what Adrienne must have been feeling. This, by contrast, seemed quite breezy. But then I guess that supports the argument that Adrienne has never been anywhere near as comfortable with Lucas as she is with Justin.
People who are not having it breezy, however, are Hope and Rafe. I’ve enjoyed seeing the growing tension between them. I think that Hope seeing just how thoughtlessly devoted to Sami that Rafe still is will be a real nail in the coffin of that relationship. I can’t see her being a woman who sticks with someone even if she feels that their real great love could come back for them at any time.November 21, 2017 at 2:31 pm #1202417279
Another wonderful episode today. Will learned the truth that Susan has been lying to him. The scene between Chandler and Deidre had the same magic their scenes always have had over the years (:
Was that really Kristen at the end of the episode? E.J. is still alive is no surprise to me, we saw her (Kristen) inject him in the morgue. I wonder if James Scott will do a surprise guest spot? (if he does I bet it will be at Christmas).
I am looking forward to Lucas’s reunion with Will and also Kate’s (:November 22, 2017 at 12:23 pm #1202418634
I for one am quite sick of J.J. berating himself. The shooting was entirely Theo’s fault: it was Theo, not J.J., who was breaking the law by attempting to break in to a building, it was Theo, not J.J., who ran away from a police officer who told him to freeze and it was Theo, not J.J., who did not drop the ‘weapon’ (which was in fact a criminal weapon albeit not a deadly one) when he was told to do so. YES, Theo was engaged in criminal activity! So I am really sick of making J.J. out to be the bad guy and Theo all innocent when it’s the other way around…
Anyway, enjoyed Will today, but his harshness towards Sami is hard to watch. I feel so bad for her. Sami is being given good advice but I can understand why it would be so difficult for her to take it. Gabi’s talk with Will was wonderful, his interactions with Marlena are heartwarming… of the things that is great is that Will, who has some shared traits with Sami, is exhibiting them in his inflexibility towards her!
IDK if there is an episode tomorrow? I am not going to be home at 1 p.m. but perhaps I can catch up with the episode later?November 22, 2017 at 12:51 pm #1202418647
I thought Eileen Davidson actually has a solid emmy tape for Susans emotional breakdown/mental break yesterday.November 22, 2017 at 2:20 pm #1202418681
Days will not air on Thursday and Friday. I have not yet watched Tuesday or Wednesday’s episodes, so I will save them for the weekend. It’s great seeing Eileen on both Days and Y&R! Such a contrast!November 25, 2017 at 9:28 pm #1202420862
I thought I read somewhere that Shelley Hennig was going to be returning as Stephanie Johnson ( at least for a brief period ) I had gone a little while this year missing the show off and on, did I miss her stint? I thought it would have been around the time that Joey went to jail or when all the bad stuff that Tripp did happened. Or is her stint yet to come? Or did I dream the whole thing?November 27, 2017 at 9:43 am #1202422059
Regarding Shelley Hennig, she made a return appearance of a couple episodes when Kayla and Steve got re-married, which I believe was back in February of this year, around Valentine’s Day. It was a great to see her, though I’ll reiterate as I have quite a few times that I would love to have Stephanie back on the show full time. I guess at this point, none of her former love interests (Max, Philip, Nathan, though I wouldn’t mind getting either of those last two back as well) are around, but she’d still have options.
I agree that Eileen Davidson was really solid in Tuesday’s episode where Roger reveals what really happened and Susan has a breakdown. The whole episode was great, and I love that, despite repeatedly mentioning Rolfe’s ability to revive the dead, the actual story was that they found Will still alive, saved him, then made him appear dead rather than straight-up resurrection. I also liked Will’s reaction to everything, that he didn’t seem shocked Susan was lying and Sami and the others were telling the truth, but he also still loves Susan and wants to help her. The scenes with him and Marlena were also just great. Seeing Mary Moira and Kristen at the end of the episode was great, though the implication that EJ is alive doesn’t really give me any more hope for seeing him again than I had before. It’s good they’ve been able to give Sami a degree of closure on the EJ situation without closing the door on him entirely. Was that it for Eileen Davidson? Susan’s arc here seems done, and it felt like Kristen and Mary Moira may have just been thrown in for fan service. But man would I love to see Kristen back in Salem again, even if just for a brief visit!
Wednesday’s episode was nice, seeing Will reunite with Chad and Abigail and then with Gabi. I’m looking forward to the scenes with Arianna in today’s episode (I assume), and his reunions with Kate and Lucas. I feel really bad for Sami that Will seems especially adverse to spending time with her, but it’s also very understandable. She’s not only putting more pressure on him to remember than anyone else is (Will’s line about it hurting to see the disappointment in people’s faces has to apply more acutely to Sami), but he’s also been conditioned by Susan to dislike her. Their current dynamic also feels really similar to how they were maybe five or so years ago, around the time she cheated on Rafe with EJ.
While I hate to see JJ just beating himself up over what happened with Theo, it also still seems necessary for him to be feeling this way. If he were staunchly proclaiming that he acted correctly, telling everyone that, while he feels bad that Theo got shot, Theo was in the wrong for breaking into a warehouse and then running from the police and holding what looked like a weapon, it would make him seem like a total jerk. That’s something Rafe would do, but not JJ. And the situation is tough because while Theo has no reputation as a person who does the wrong thing, JJ was just suspended for holding a gun on a suspect who was in custody, in a situation where it was clearly not appropriate. Much like the way people have been leaping to the conclusion that whatever Theo was doing must have been pushed onto him by Andre, this situation is not about facts nearly as much as reputation and past actions. Abe’s been understandably devastated by this and really harsh towards JJ and pretty gruff with everyone else, so it was a nice change of pace to see him with Roman and Sami, where he softened quite a bit. But now the crap is really starting to hit the fan in terms of divided loyalties and conflicting allegiances.
Can’t wait to see what happens this week!November 27, 2017 at 9:51 am #1202422071
I have a sense we are going to have to wait a bit for Kate and Lucas to be reunited with Will, mainly because I believe this is the week that Robert Scott Wilson’s Ben will be appearing and that will certainly take up several episodes (I would assume).
I get what you (EmmyLoser) are saying about J.J. that makes sense. I just find it irritating the way they are glossing over Theo’s responsibility for his own actions and the consequences of them.
IDK if that was all for Eileen Davidson? It does seem to have been concluded ): but hopefully she will come back for further visits!
The show is SO good right now there are only minor quibbles though.November 27, 2017 at 10:15 am #1202422113
Yeah, I hope that ultimately they do give Theo responsibility for his actions, not even so much for the purpose of casting blame but just to recognize that him having autism doesn’t make him incapable of making his own choices, and sometimes those are poor choices. It seems like this will ultimately fall on Kate as the person who encouraged Theo to break into the warehouse, but it was Theo’s idea to do it and he was the person who assured her that he could do it safely and without getting caught. He made a mistake, but it was certainly more his mistake than anyone else’s.November 27, 2017 at 10:35 am #1202422143
Watching right now I am just loving Chandler’s performance (: This hypnosis scene is rocking! (: His scenes with Arianna were really quite moving.
Happy that grandma Kate has learned that Will is alive! (: Looks like Tripp might confide in Steve about Kate?
Sami’s crazy scheme is about to be put into play…
Everybody is so incredibly great! (:
