I like the new Ciara a lot so far. It’s hard to really get much of a sense after just two or three episodes, but I could see this going well.

Sonny choosing Will is kind of like when Ciara chose Chad over Theo last year. Theo was the only one who was actually interested, and so she ended up alone. Will’s feelings for Paul seem mostly physical with a side of the fact that Paul has no real expectations of him, so it’s not like Sonny couldn’t win him over, but he seems to have no interest in even getting to know Sonny. Maybe Sonny should learn to play it cool and show some skin.

Steve now wanting to go after Kate seems like a pretty dumb move. I know he and Tripp didn’t appreciate her threatening Tripp and Kayla the way she did, but she’s not after anything else now. What’s done is done, but in terms of the interactions between her and Tripp and Theo already having been shot. It’s such classic soap logic for Steve to be blaming Kate for Theo’s shooting, when, come the hell on, is she really more responsible than JJ? Or Theo himself? I look forward to them finding out who is sabotaging DiMera so everyone can be united in blaming that person, LOL.

The writing on today’s episode was superb, esp. the scenes between Lucas and Sami – yowzers! (: the show has been SO amazing!!!! (: I loved every scene today… and that ending with Will showing up at Sami’s door and Lucas asking for Maggie’s help… beautiful! (:

Looking back on the week, my one criticism is the way that Hope was written coming off the breakup with Rafe. I don’t blame her for not wanting to end the relationship necessarily, but by the time she and Rafe were face to face again, after he’d slept with Sami and hid in her hotel room listening to Hope be worried about him, they had walked back a lot of the very reasonable and true things that came out in their very well-written breakup scenes. They chalked Hope’s hesitation up to being afraid of losing someone else she loves so much, which doesn’t really sound like Hope or, while I could believe it generally, also just doesn’t seem specifically true to Hope and Rafe’s dynamic. It also feels hard to believe that Hope, or a lot of other people, would be cool with Rafe, the least impartial person to ever grace the Salem PD, now being commissioner over Hope because of her supposed bias. I guess that Rafe and Sami having slept together has a little more impact now that it’s a secret and Hope is ready to set a wedding date, giving maybe the potential for another wedding that doesn’t go through, but I would have preferred them to put the nail in the coffin of that relationship when Hope showed up at Sami’s hotel room.

Also, it’s kind of annoying, though very on character, the way Eric dragged out so much of other people’s dirty laundry for the sake of defending Sami’s bad behavior. As a person who spent all of the 90s hearing the excuse that Sami is screwed up from seeing John and Marlena making love on the Titan conference room table, I’d be happy to never hear that excuse again. It’s also annoying that Eric told this story and the story about Will shooting EJ without the contexts that surrounded both extreme actions. But it is good writing, because this is exactly what so many of the Bradys do where Sami is concerned: make any excuse they can to try to get her what she wants and justify the terrible things she’s done. And I am glad that Will went to talk to her at the end of the episode. I’m looking forward to that conversation.

Overall, it was another great week! I don’t think I’ve deleted an episode of this from my DVR in over a month, which is getting to be a problem.

It was hilarious that Sami has gotten Hope’s engagement ring stuck on her finger! (: My guess: she says she was kidding around and put it on and it accidently got stuck there! (: Looking forward to tomorrow… I assume Ali’s last air date is this week? Seems like they are wrapping her guest stint up ): What a pleasure it has been! (:

I have an appointment and will miss the last 15 minutes tomorrow ):

The scenes with Maggie and Eve were hilarious. It was quite absurd and over-the-top for Eve to send Maggie’s belongings to a consignment shop. I loved it when Maggie said she was starting to feel “nostalgic for the Bonnie Lockhart era.”

Loved the scenes with Victor and Sonny. Victor made some really valid points in his argument that Sonny is crazy to give up a good man like Paul for the comparatively unstable Will. Speaking of Will, his interest in Paul is quite a twist. The scenes with Paul, Will, and Sonny were marvelously written and acted.

I also loved the scenes with Sami and Lucas. In addition to the great dialogue and performances, there is such history with the characters. Everything about their scenes felt so authentic.

Sami has truly served as a reinvigorating force. I hope she returns soon. Loved the scene with Hope’s ring stuck on her finger.

There are many other noteworthy scenes, really just too numerous to list. I find myself enjoying the show more and more.

Soap fans often talk about honoring the show’s history. But often the attempts at honoring history are botched due to recasting and/or implausible shifts in characterization. However, Days is an example of how a soap can successfully honor history. Most of the actors have played their roles on a long-term basis and the writing has been respectful of the show’s long-term history and characterization. The show has made the most of its history to tell stories that are woven expertly into the show’s fabric.

The show really has made fantastic use of Alison Sweeney’s guest stint. Sami jumped right into the action and has been driving things along from her first minute on screen. It’s been so great having her back, and I also hope she returns soon.

I loved the scenes between Sami and Will yesterday. This is the basic cycle of their dynamic, and it was great to see it played out again. Then Sami getting the ring stuck on her finger was hilarious. I loved Hope coming in at the end, but it seems like too much to hope that this’ll lead to a revelation about Rafe and Sami.

The contrast between Hope and Rafe as commissioner is pretty interesting too. Hope became commissioner, and then basically had all of her scenes at the police station, was constantly working really hard, and was always dressed nicely and professionally. Rafe has hardly spent any time at the police station so far, seems totally relaxed, and is dressed like he just woke up to go for a coffee run.

Steve and Kayla getting in Kate’s face was also pretty fun to watch. I liked Kate pointing out that what Tripp did was dangerous, and more deliberately so than what she did with Theo, and yet they feel totally justified covering for him while acting like she’s so evil. Considering that Steve and Kayla spent a year covering up a murder their son committed, it feels hypocritical that they need to go to such lengths to expose Kate, but this is classic. I also like how the story is helping to re-build the relationship between Kayla and Tripp in a way that makes sense and feels believable.

I did also like the scenes with Victor and Sonny the other day, especially Victor referring to Will as “Sami Jr.” hahaha. Victor made a lot of good points, too, but Sonny doesn’t seem in a position to hear them. He’s always been pretty stubborn and fairly dense when it comes to Will and his potential shortcomings. It’s a shame Victor constantly has to play the “I fire you/I’ll demote you” card with Brady and Sonny to get them to listen to his advice.

I missed the last 15 minutes today – Rafe and Hope were dining together; Gabi and Kate were in Horton Square at the vigil spot for comatose Theo; Eric was talking to J.J. in J.J.’s room – what else was happening?

Any final air date for Ali Sweeney?

Is Bonnie still at large? I think she is…

Loving the show each and every day! (:

Sami trying to use tears and snot to get that ring off her finger was absolutely hilarious. Ron C. said on Twitter late in the day yesterday that Ali has two shows left to air. Given that she’s been on basically every day, that probably means Thursday will be her late air date.

As for the end of yesterday’s show:
Eric didn’t think he got anywhere with JJ, but JJ did start reading the Bible Eric gave him at the end of the episode, so maybe.
Gabi was upset that she overheard Eli tell Abe that he believes it’s possible JJ could have done something different, but they basically agree to disagree and try not to let it affect their relationship.
Sami ran into Kate in the Square and told her the good news about Lucas agreeing to go to rehab, which was a much-needed ray of sunshine for poor Kate, who continued to deny her involvement in Theo’s shooting to Abe, who didn’t believe her.
And Hope had trouble letting go of the idea that Sami was up to something in Rafe’s office earlier, but tells Julie that she and Rafe are going to set a wedding date “soon!”

I think that about covers it.

Is Eileen Davidson done with her current stint on Days or will she be back soon? Last time I saw her was laughing about how EJ is still alive.

Bad, boozy Brady is definitely the best Brady. His scenes with Sonny, then Paul, then Eve, were hilarious. Will and Sami’s last scenes together (for now) were really sweet, very moving.

Bravo, Ali Sweeney, BRAVO!!!! (: Come back soon! (:

Loved Ciara overhearing Rafe and Sami! The plot thickens!

    Loved the chemistry between Sonny and Will. Will has gotten hot kisses with both Paul and Sonny! (;

Eve and Brady are a hoot! I was glad that Eve got the upper hand with him.

The scene with Lucas, Maggie and Kate was poignant and really well played by all 3 of them. hang on in there Lucas!

The writing is just so delicious!

I’m really surprised by the turn of events between Will and Sonny. On the one hand, it was nice seeing them reconnect. I wasn’t really feeling much heat between them before, and Chandler Massey just turned it on in yesterday’s episode and they were great together again. But I’m hoping the show doesn’t rush back into having them be a couple, for a few reasons. For starters, Sonny’s been kind of a jerk to Paul, and he should have to sweat it out a little with Will. Also, emotionally, Will seems to have picked up sort of where he left off in that a big part of the reason he’d cheated on Sonny, first in LA and then with Paul, was because he felt like he jumped into a committed relationship with Sonny without having a chance to really explore and be a single gay man. Sonny is practically trying to repeat history by locking Will back into a marriage he doesn’t remember when Will feels like he’s just gotten a degree of freedom he’d like to enjoy. And I really enjoy watching Will and Paul together. The characters as they are now play really well off one another, Paul being really sincere and virtuous and Will being sort of cavalier about consequences right now.

I also love how ridiculously soapy it was that Sami and Rafe were discussing their secret tryst outside in public during the day in just a normal speaking voice. They mentioned sleeping together so many times it would have been hard for someone not to overhear. I’m eager to see what Ciara will do with this!

Oh, and I loved the mentions of Chelsea and Blair, Eve’s apparent aliases and Kassie DePaiva’s characters on GL and OLTL! It was fun but subtle enough not to be cheesy.

Days has been doing such a great job with suspenseful cliffhangers lately, pretty much every single day!

What is the verdict for J.J.? What will Ciara do? What will Chad do? We will have to wait until next week to find out!

I am really liking the new Ciara (Victoria Konefal) very very much (: She has jumped in and is already holding my interest and making me glad she’s back!

I hate it when Days ends each day! I want more!!!!!
