Suzanne Rogers was wonderful last week.
Tyler Christopher’s chest deserves an Emmy!
I’m looking forward to the reveal about Sami at Hope & Rafe’s wedding. Plus, according to the promo, we’ll be getting quite a bit of Vivian’s hijinks this week. It looks fun.
And DAYS’s ratings are up huge!
Up 320,000 viewers over last year! Well deserved.February 26, 2018 at 4:22 pm #1202501472
I apologize to all the “Marci Miller fans” But so far, she isn’t even coming to the remarkable, emmy-robbed Patsy Pease for her multiple personality storyline back in 1992, I hope they do a little more with this storyline, Marci Miller just doesn’t really cut it as a bad girl yet…but at least gabigail dresses better than the old lady grandma clothes that abigail wears most of the time, seriously wardrobe crew, get A freaking clue!!February 26, 2018 at 4:43 pm #1202501479
The scenes between Victor and Vivian today were great! I love John Aniston’s dry delivery: “No moment that you’re in is precious, Vivian.” And kudos to the writers for ending the scene with Victor exclaiming, “My eyes!” and then transitioning back to Steve, Kayla, and John.
Speaking of Steve, I am hoping that this vision problem is leading to a positive outcome. Perhaps his eyesight will not only be fully restored, but this will also somehow involve him no longer needing to wear the patch.
I liked the scenes between Claire and Marlena. Although Days is generally very good about playing family connections, I almost forgot that Claire is the granddaughter of Marlena and Hope because she rarely interacts with them on-screen. I loved the way Marlena handled Claire. She’s so diplomatic.
Is Andre really dead? If so, why has there been no announcement about Thaao Penghlis leaving?
I’ve been thinking that maybe dressing Abigail in dowdy clothes is intentional. It emphasizes a counterpoint to her character that may play into story given recent developments. It’s a bit heavy-handed if that is the case, but it would explain some of the unreasonably ugly dresses.
Cool that Bravo will be showing Days. I think late 2011 is when I first started really paying attention to Days. It will be fun to catch some of the old episodes.
Yes, Days is up in the ratings! Their most recent W18-49 rating was .61. That is a milestone I have been waiting for. To put it in perspective, Days dipped down as low as .44 in that demographic last summer. So the gain is quite significant.February 27, 2018 at 9:12 am #1202502024
I did really love the Victor/Vivian scenes yesterday. Louise Sorel and John Aniston still play off each other so well. The “My eyes!” was classic, and it was clever leading that back into Steve’s situation. I feel really bad for Steve, who is being a total trooper about all of this while Kayla is quite understandably fuming at John for his part in all of this. I didn’t expect that whole misadventure to have any lasting consequences, but it’s good that it’s leading into something else for Steve and Kayla. I was wondering if Steve might need to find an organ donor to get a new eye, and if it would be more or less difficult to kind a donor for one eye rather than two. It never even occurred to me that he could possibly end up not needing the patch anymore, but that would be great for him. I wonder how a lot of fans would feel about it.
The scene between Marlena and Claire was also great. It’s true that Claire is one of the few instances where a character on this show so rarely interacts with the rest of her family members. Despite having just returned a few months ago, Ciara seems much more connected for her family than Claire does. Marlena’s response to Claire’s news was really classic Marlena, not even reacting to what Claire said but asking her about her actions and motives. I’m excited to see the secret finally exposed, if you can even still call it a secret at this point. The list of people who know is starting to grow exponentially.
Yeah, I’ve always thought that Abigail’s wardrobe was intentionally matronly to contrast with Gabi, so maybe it was setting up for the current story. While I wouldn’t say I’m blown away by Marci Miller’s performances as Gabigail, I think she’s doing a good job, and that the scenes are generally fun and effective. The shift between Abigail and Gabigail is always clear immediately, and the two seem rather distinct from one another. It would be interesting to see Miller playing a different personality that is totally new rather than Abigail’s inherent interpretation of Gabi. It’s a little limiting because Gabigail is an imitation of Gabi. Also, I’d be fine with suspending disbelief and just having Stefan basically never wear a shirt.
I think basically the reason Adrienne hasn’t really be on is because Judi Evans isn’t on contract. I remember this being a thing when Ron was writing GH, that people would get frustrated with the way characters would sometimes just drop off the show, and it would be because the actor’s contractual commitment had been filled or because there was no contractual obligation, and the screentime was being distributed among other people with guarantees that had to be met. The show has had a pretty large regular cast for a while now, and with the recent visits or additions to the recurring lineup (Anna, Carrie, Vivian, Billie, Melinda Trask, etc.), it probably takes a lot of careful coordination to make sure they’re not exceeding their casting budget. Hopefully Adrienne shows up again soon.
Also, I had assumed that Thaao Penghlis was still with the show/on contract because we haven’t actually seen the murder scenes yet. I figured once they had aired whatever flashback scenes we’ll see of the night of the murder, Thaao would then be officially out. But that could certainly not be the case. I’d be happy for Abigail not to have to live with this on her conscience.
It’s great the ratings are up! I hope they continue to rise!February 27, 2018 at 11:25 pm #1202502480
I was really surprised that Hope and Rafe have wed through their elopement. I didn’t expect it. So Hope once again marries someone who is deceiving her!
I feel so badly for Gabi. It bothers me that neither Sonny or Will has showed up for her. Will is more understandable, he has lost his memory. Still, they are the co-fathers of Ari.
I am enjoying Stefan’s scenes with Gabigail. They have a fun energy! I wonder if she is going to stab him? That ending felt ominous to me!
Kate and Vivian squaring off was classic west coast soap type scene; yes, they had scenes like that on east coast soaps but there were subtle differences.
My favorite soap right now is The Doctors, circa 1975, the episodes that are airing now. I have to wait several more days to get more episodes to devour!February 28, 2018 at 8:42 am #1202502739
I can see why Sonny and Will haven’t been around for Gabi, though I’m assuming Sonny has been supportive off screen. At the very least, he seems to be doing the lion’s share of taking care of Arianna these days (Will was missing for like a day and no one really noticed), and between and running Titan while trying to not be devastated over Will, I can see why he wouldn’t have the same amount of time that, say, Chad and Abigail do to run down to the police station with outlandish theories a couple of times a day. It does feel, though, like Sonny, Paul and Will are pretty isolated from the other characters in their age range, which I’d like to see change. Maybe a bunch of these people will run into each other at Hope and Rafe’s wedding?
Speaking of outlandish theories, I found it hilarious that the folks in the styling department gave Melinda Trask both a hairstyle and an outfit that looked way more like something Gabi would wear than what Melinda’s usual look would be. It’s not like the audience will start to think Melinda actually was the person on the tape, but I guess it gives some credence to the idea, as Chad has been claiming, Melinda has similar hair and a similar enough look to Gabi that this is even plausible. Her reaction when Eli asked her for an alibi was great. I’m loving having her involved in this story.
Stefan reading Kimberly’s boot on multiple personalities was a nice touch! I can’t wait to see what happens between Vivian and Gabigail today!March 2, 2018 at 9:22 am #1202504116
It’s kind of annoying that Hope said the wedding date was March 1 (unless I misheard her, which I don’t think I did) and she and Rafe weren’t even on yesterday’s episode! I miss the way soap weddings for big couples used to be bigger events that basically consumed the whole week and a lot of the cast in stories that played into the event. Considering that Hope and Rafe already technically got married on the day before their wedding, and how against them as a couple I currently am, I suppose I’m fine with this wedding being underplayed.
But there were some standout moments in the episode. I loved the scenes between Maggie and Julie (and I appreciated the clarification that Julie and Doug are still living at the Horton house with Jennifer, because I was wondering). And the Gabigail story is continuing to provide excitement over at the DiMera mansion. Gabigail chasing Vivian around with the fire poker the other day was great fun, and her relationship with Stefan is interesting. I really enjoyed seeing a third alter emerge yesterday to deal with the close encounter with Chad. I wonder what her name will be? Tabby? The Ciara and Tripp interactions are also great, and the chat between Eve and Claire was nice. Now, it’s time to get to this wedding and see what happens!March 2, 2018 at 5:46 pm #1202504396
Julie’s expression at the end of today’s episode cracked me up! I am glad Claire told Hope the the truth!
Ciara, Claire and Tripp are holding my interest. Their interactions have a nice tension to them. Good guy Tripp in the middle between two flawed young women is an interesting take on the eternal soap triangle.March 3, 2018 at 5:10 pm #1202505118
So much good going on over the last few days.
I loved how Stefan was reading the book about Kim that served to more or less narrate Vivian’s interaction with Abigail. Highly creative and entertaining.
The scenes with Julie and Maggie were outstanding. The writing for these scenes was excellent. Also nice to see Claire interacting with her great aunt/step-great=grandmother, Julie (did I get that right?).
Great scenes for Eric Martsolf lately as he struggles with his relationship with Eve. And of course John Aniston is great in pretty much every scene.
The wedding episode was fun. Plenty of cast members present and sub-plots galore. Vanessa Williams did a beautiful job in her scenes. The confrontation scene between Claire and Ciara was excellent. And the ending was quite exciting. I too enjoyed Julie’s reaction.March 5, 2018 at 9:10 am #1202507538
Yes, Julie is Claire’s great aunt/step-great-grandmother! It’s that awkward thing of when your grandmother’s sister is also married to her father.
Friday’s episode was really strong across the board. Everyone attending the wedding looked fantastic, and Hope looked especially stunning. I loved the choice of a white suit as her wedding look. All of the subplots happening throughout the episode with a pretty steady build up to the reveal that Rafe slept with Sami worked really well. There was a great tension right at the end when Claire and Ciara are arguing as Claire tries to talk to Hope privately, like watching the impact of a crash happen in slow motion. You know exactly what’s going to happen, and just watch with this mix of fascination and dread. I’m obviously glad that someone finally told Hope what half of Salem already knew, that Rafe had slept with Sami (and, as I’m sure will be the sticking point for Hope, lied about it for months). Julie’s reaction was great, and I really liked all the reaction shots from the crowd. I can’t wait to see today’s episode!
And poor Julie! So much planning and preparation for a wedding where not only the bride and the groom were already married but also an explosive secret has pretty much ruined things.March 5, 2018 at 4:26 pm #1202507851
On today’s episode…
I loved the moment when Claire was trash-talking Rafe and Gabi was in the background giving her the evil eye. Camila Banus is so awesome.
Julie was soooo rude. Shame on her. Poor Gabi!
I loved Eric and Jennifer’s argument over Sami.
And the punch… wow. Days is building the foundation for the next long-standing soap rivalry.
Bonus: Eli spills! I loved the segue from Rafe’s story to Eli’s; great writing. Can’t wait to see the continuation of that scene.
All in all, this episode was very well-executed, with plenty of interesting reactions from the various characters. Very fun to watch. Days does crowd scenes very well, in part because of the strong direction but also because the cast has such history and works so well together.
Although Days lost some ground in the latest W18-49 ratings, it is worth noting that all the soaps dropped in this demo. Days beat B&B and tied GH. In fact, Days actually was not that far behind Y&R. So while the show posted an overall loss, the show still made inroads in keeping up with the other soaps.March 6, 2018 at 9:03 am #1202508336
I watched the second of the 2011 episodes aired on Bravo this morning. E.J. and Nicole were a couple; Daniel and Melanie were new characters; Vivian, Quinn nad Ivan were all on their way out; Abe and Ava were friends (this surprised me); Carly was on the show; Caroline was waitressing at Brady’s and maggie was with Daniel and Melanie. I started watching the show on a regular basis again shortly after this point, as my east coast soaps had all been cancelled.
The episode was really quite good yesterday. I loved that Eric and Jennifer’s argument was resolved with them still together.
Camila Banus is so great in her role! Strong yet fragile. Eli telling her surprised me; my guess is that Gabi will keep the secret too for J.J.’s sake.
Looking forward to today’s show! (:March 6, 2018 at 9:35 am #1202508357
Yeah, I totally loved yesterday’s episode. It was very strong all around and seemed to fly by. I thought the writing and acting in pretty much all the scenes was very strong.
Julie was UNBELIEVABLY rude to Gabi! I get that Nick was family and she really never was able to see his flaws, but he was terrorizing half of town for heaven’s sake! I know she was upset, but jeez. Poor Gabi. It’s amazing that, with the exception of Chad, every love interest she’s had has been a Horton and thus a relative of Julie’s.
The conversations between Eli and Gabi and Jennifer and Eric were both great. Eli eventually deciding to come clean to Gabi (or at least come clean about his own wrongdoing; I guess we don’t know how much he’ll tell her yet) was a nice surprise, both in terms of drama and the integrity of the character, given what had just happened. Lamon Archey did a great job transitioning from defending Rafe to admitting his own guilt, and the emotion he channeled in the last scene was very effective. The fight between Jennifer and Eric was surprisingly electric, and I love that Sami takes center stage, even when she’s not around. Considering that Sami has basically been wrecking the lives of Jennifer’s relatives for decades now, about as long as Eric has been defending her bad behavior, it makes sense this would bubble over the way it did. I was also really glad that Eric threw some blame on Abigail for the whole thing with EJ. I think this is possibly the first time I’ve heard it mentioned in a way that didn’t frame directly as EJ having taken advantage of Abigail. And Sami ultimately did Abigail a favor in bringing Chad back to Salem.
I love the continuing and now growing feud between Claire and Ciara. I was stunned when Ciara punched Claire! And poor Claire went down like a cardboard cutout. I’m totally Team Ciara, but I did feel a little bad for Claire, who was kind of hilariously trying to get out of town before people started getting in her face about what she did. While I do agree that Hope should have been told, Ciara is right in that Claire is driven crazy by not having things be all about her.
There were some great moments with Hope and Rafe as well. The writing for those scenes was really strong. I loved Hope’s points that Rafe shouldn’t have been so ready to lose what they had that he’d sleep with Sami and that, however if happened, Rafe shouldn’t have let Ciara lie for him.
Can’t wait to see what happens next and more fallout. I’m really looking forward to the next interaction between Hope and Ciara, and of course to seeing things play out with Eli and Gabi.March 7, 2018 at 6:16 am #1202508921
I have to say, it bothers me how pro-Rafe things generally seem to be right now. I understand Ciara’s deal with it. For one thing, she had sufficient time to get over being furious about what Rafe did, but also, considering her perspective, continuing to support Rafe makes sense. The last guy Hope married turned out to be a scoundrel who tried to kill Hope and whose son raped Ciara. Rafe is obviously still a choice that feels protective of both Hope and Ciara. But Jennifer not even giving Hope a day or two to be pissed before pretty strongly urging her to forgive Rafe and work things out bugged me. I’d like the mix of conversations to be a little less toward the “Rafe’s a good guy and I hope they work this out” end of things and more on the “How could Rafe have done this, lied about it for months, have Ciara keep his secret, etc.?” end of it. I guess Julie has enough anger for everyone.
Very interesting choice Eli made in telling Gabi everything except that he’s the father of Lani’s baby. I can’t believe he truly thinks that secret will stay buried forever. Valerie doesn’t seem to be letting it go, for one thing, and the dates don’t properly line up at all. I guess Eli could still pretend, even if the secret is exposed, that he didn’t know he was the father, that he believed Lani, that was the end of the story, and Valerie never got involved. A lot’s been made about Gabi and Abigail’s competing over Chad, but with Lani now having slept with a second of Gabi’s boyfriends, that frenemyship should be going pretty strong.
Even when I dislike the outcome of it, I like that the show keeps Eve so true to character by making her so contentious all the time. Her comment to Eric bringing up the accident that killed Daniel was so unnecessarily hurtful, especially considering that Eric was expressing the same concerns that she herself had just brought up. It would have been nice to see her connect with Eric over the concern and assure him that she’s keeping an eye on Brady, but it would also have been pretty out of character.March 7, 2018 at 8:41 am #1202509000
In the 2nd episode this morning on Bravo there were clips galore of Tom and Alice, and also of Bo and Hope. My favorite was a 1970’s early Maggie scene between her and Alice (: They are about to open Horton Square. I am really enjoying my morning episodes of Days! (:
Another enjoyable episode yesterday! (: Here’s hoping some combination of Will, Paul and/or Sonny will be on today! (:
