Yeah, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Gabby. I wouldn’t be surprised if we soon find out that Abby’s pregnant and we have a Who’s the Daddy? & Who’s the Mommy? story.
Will and Paul need to have sex scenes 5 days a week. They’re on fire. And Greg Rikaart was adorable yesterday. Sonny’s the weak link in this quad for me which is sad because I’ve liked him a lot in the past.May 10, 2018 at 9:47 am #1202544797
I’m not sure what was the bigger stretch in yesterday’s episode: Dr. Laura convincing Chad to “let this play out” and allow Gabby and Stefan to have a conversation, or the police and no one else apparently ever noticing that the black wig was missing from the Gabi Chic office at DiMera. Seems like a pretty big oversight considering how much time they spent thinking the woman in the security footage could be Gabi or someone with dark hair, like Melinda Trask (lol). Though I did appreciate Dr. Laura picking up the narrative where Abigail left off, so that we (and Chad, I guess) could get the part of the story Abigail doesn’t remember.
Also, I think we’re meant to find Rafe’s whole attitude about his relationship with Hope to be charming (refusing to give up on the woman he loves! having fun banter where they tease each other!) but it is coming across as very annoying. Him questioning her handling of the situation with Abigail, and the tone he took when doing it, was a good reminder of all the times he did that when she first got the job, and if Hope were my friend, I’d tell her that he may be on good behavior most of the time now, but he’s clearly just suppressing this tendency long enough to try to win her back. This is who he is.May 10, 2018 at 4:34 pm #1202544954
I just now finished Wednesday’s Days. What a great episode. I loved the recreation of Andre’s Murder, the courting of Abby’s various personalities by Chad and Stefan, the confrontation between Eli and Gabi, the confrontation and gun struggle between Kate and Vivian. The writers just have that knack for keeping the show exciting as they perpetuate conflict among established characters.
By the way, pretty nifty trick the way that they brought back Theresa and Ben last week in unexpected ways! Looks like Xander will be back soon as well.May 10, 2018 at 4:47 pm #1202544961
So Vivian is now “undead”! (; Who gave her the injection?
Kate Mansi is returning as Abigail, interesting…
I so enjoy all of Will and Paul’s scenes! (:May 10, 2018 at 11:02 pm #1202545080
So happy Kate Mansi is coming back (as I predicted in another thread bc I’m psychic), but it looks like it’s only for a short time. Maybe they’ll woo her back to stay permanently after she starts shooting. I’ve been loving Days lately. I hope they’re setting up for EJ and Kristen’s returns.May 12, 2018 at 3:13 pm #1202545860
Just finished Thursday’s episode. Wow, I wasn’t expecting Vivian to die. Oh wait, she didn’t. Well, won’t. But who is injecting her? Didn’t Dr. Rolfe die?
Loved Paul and Will’s reading of Dr. Rolfe’s journal. Despite the zany premise, I was only taken out of the moment once, when Dr. Rolfe (as read by Paul) used the word “snuck.” Although “snuck” is becoming increasingly accepted, “sneaked” is the standard past tense of “sneak” and someone of Dr. Rolfe’s age and education would certainly know that. In any case, I found myself wondering if Dr. Rolfe brought back any other Salemites.
The debate over Marci Miller and Kate Mansi rages on Daytime Confidential. I like them both. Since Miller is leaving, it’s nice that Mansi will temporarily resume the role.
I spotted Paul Telfer’s name on Thursday’s closing credits!May 14, 2018 at 8:07 am #1202546705
Thursday episode was great! I loved all the scenes with Will, Paul and Roger. The stuff that Will and Paul were reading from Rolfe’s journal opened up a whole world of possibilities in terms of people potentially not being dead after they die. It reminded me of when AMC just had David Hayward invent a way of bringing people back to life. I think the audience was meant to infer, or certainly hope, that Rolfe had resurrected EJ shortly after his death, something that they did set up by having Kristen give him that injection, but also implies that maybe it didn’t go all that well or took longer to be effective? Maybe Rolfe himself is actually alive as well. He took that cyanide pill pretty quickly to avoid answering Hope’s and Sami’s questions, perhaps with the knowledge that he had a solution on standby and someone waiting to administer it. It also brings up a question of whether there’s someone in Salem, and possibly someone we know, who is more involved in this than we realize and possibly the person who gave Vivian the injection. It’s obviously outlandish, but I’m intrigued.
I also thought Chandler Massey and Lauren Koslow were both excellent in that episode. Kate’s emotional reaction to all of this stuff with Vivian has taken me a little by surprise, not that it’s been a bad thing by any means.
Friday’s episode was good, too, though I found it less exciting, aside from Xander showing up at the end. All of the stuff with Chloe and Theresa was fun, and I like seeing Victor feel compelled to defend Theresa. Part of me wonders why he can’t just tell Maggie the truth, but given how bad people in Salem tend to be at keeping secrets, and the stakes of this one, I can understand.
I’ve been a huge fan of both Marci Miller and Kate Mansi, and I don’t really see much value in placing one over the other. I do think it could be a bit jarring having Mansi step back into the role now, since Abigail has changed so much since she left, but I look forward to seeing how it works.May 16, 2018 at 10:04 am #1202548183
Eve and Brady must love that all of these people who hated Theresa are now all, “But what about your sister, Eve? What about the mother of your son, Brady?” They make valid points, though. It was particularly great that they brought up the conversation that JJ and Theresa had right before she was leaving town. The scenes with Theresa, Xander (also love that Xander is still selling diamonds illegally) and Mateo were pretty thrilling. I assumed Xander would just take Theresa’s deal and play along, so when he told Mateo what she was up to, I was really surprised and had no idea what would happen next. Theresa attempting to go back for Chloe was also a great touch and a good way of showing she’s actually a better person than she was before. (This is a notion they said over and over again before Jen Lilley left the show and one that never really stuck with me before.)
If Victor didn’t want Eve and Brady getting engaged, maybe he should have encouraged someone to fill Eve in on the fates of Brady’s various fiancees. Since divorcing Chloe, he’s been engaged like six times and all have resulted in nothing short of a disaster. Madison was killed on their wedding day. Brady’s relationship with Arianna went south when Nicole showed up on their wedding day, and she was eventually killed by a hit-and-run driver while trying to evade Rafe and Sami’s harassment over her friendship with EJ. His first engagement to Kristen ended badly enough the day before the wedding when her scheming was exposed, but the real disaster was at the wedding for their second engagement, when a tape of her having sex with the priest performing the ceremony was played. I believe Kristen is currently presumed dead, though we saw her alive and well back in November. Theresa was held hostage by Xander on her and Brady’s wedding day before being forced into this arrangement in Mexico — this is after she almost killed John after her and Brady’s quickie Vegas wedding — and Nicole was blackmailed out of town. Not an inspiring list. I think the only one who got out of the relationship with him unscathed was Melanie, who obviously should not have been romantically involved with him in the first place.May 16, 2018 at 4:36 pm #1202548402
The return of Xander once again shows the skill of the Days writing team. They have used history in a way that is particularly satisfying and shows attention to detail.
A few years ago, when Theresa threw Xander under the bus, I was taken aback by the meanness of her actions. That is the type of plot detail that is often forgotten, but the writers remembered. How perfect that her fate now rests (temporarily, at least) in Xander’s hands.
Like other stories under the current regime, the writers are playing the various beats quite effectively. As EmmyLoser points out in the post above, Tuesday’s episode referenced JJ’s conversation with Theresa, complete with a clip. That for me was one of the highlights of the episode. We also were treated to a rare scene with Eve and JJ, complete with the subtext of their past connection.
As EmmyLoser also points out, Theresa felt it was important to leave a note for Chloe, indicating that she has undergone at least some character growth. And the business about Xander embroiled in an illegal diamond operation, though a small detail, was a nice touch.
Often when shows “honor” history, they do it by changing or rewriting it, re-inventing characters in a manner that rings false. I could give many examples, but instead I’d rather applaud Ron Carlivati for staying true to the show’s history and to the entire writing team for the clever and careful integration of the show’s history into current stories.
P.S. EmmyLoser, thank you for the entertaining review of Brady’s past entanglements.May 17, 2018 at 11:00 am #1202549083
Loved Camila Banus’s performance today as Gabi tells Abigail all that has happened during her “absence”! (:
I am not at all sympathetic towards Stefan. he is guilty of so many crimes and deserves comeuppance and to lose.
I missed why Leo is now working for Kate?
Today’s episode was solid and entertaining.May 18, 2018 at 7:47 am #1202549530
Thanks and you’re welcome, robbalto! I agree with you, the writing team is doing great work really across the board.
I think it’s smart what they’ve done with Stefan. I had been really sympathetic to him, and wasn’t really thinking of him as a villain so much as kind of misguided and disconnected from most of his family. But with Vivian’s death and Gabby’s retreating into Abigail’s mind, he’s been given motivation to be full-on vengeful and go after Kate, Chad and whoever else. I’m really looking forward to the confrontation between him and Abigail.
Poor Abigail. I love that Gabi isn’t feeling particularly understanding about what Abigail has been going through. It makes sense, and provided a good way for Abigail to learn some of the things Chad hasn’t been telling her.
The stuff with Leo and Sonny was highly entertaining. Freeman, after Vivian was shot and apparently killed during the struggle with Kate, Kate met with Leo and told him that she was taking over Vivian’s plan, and really made him kick things into high gear with trying to entrap Sonny with sexual harassment. I wondered if the bartender at the pub was also part of this plan, though? It seems like kind of a lot that Vivian would have had him be involved just to guide Sonny to Leo, and seems even more unlikely that Kate would somehow know that and get him involved, too. So I guess he’s just really invested in Sonny having a happy and active sex life?
Also, I feel the need to go on record and say I reeeaaaallllly wish Hope had just let Rafe sign those annulment papers. At this point, the idea of them just staying married seems like the craziest thing, way crazier than annulling the marriage and then, if they work through this, just having an actual wedding where one of them wasn’t harboring a horrendous secret.May 19, 2018 at 9:46 am #1202550037
So now Stefan is vowing revenge on Chad and Gabi is vowing revenge on Abigail AND stefan! Soaps, you gotta love ’em! (:
Marci Miller and Camila Banus really brought it with excellent performances on Friday’s episode!May 20, 2018 at 12:52 pm #1202550535
Just read that Days has overtaken GH for 3rd place in the ratings! part of this could be that GH has been truly awful lately but I am still happy about this news!
Brady seeing Teresa at the end of the Friday episode was great – looking forward to finding out what happens next – does Teresa tell Brady the real reason she left?
Kyle Lowder is returning to the show but he played Brady so who will he play this time around? Who knows what will happen?May 20, 2018 at 4:37 pm #1202550640
Days hit another milestone with the most recent ratings.
First, Days moved into 3rd place in total viewers. While the W18-49 ratings are somewhat fluid, total viewers is a tougher category with, typically, wider margins between the shows.
As Freeman points out, Days has benefitted in a sense by GH’s loss of total viewers in the sense that it helped Days to move up to 3rd. However, it’s worth noting that Days is the only serial that is up in that category over last year—and it’s not just a small gain.
As if that weren’t enough, Days also moved up to 3rd in W18-49 viewers, this time besting B&B. While GH remains in 2nd place ahead of Days, the margin of difference is narrow. In fact, when rounded off to the nearest tenth of a rating point, the four shows are tied, as indicated by Soap Opera Network.
Kyle Lowder returning to the show is interesting. You never know who will turn up next on Days!
I’m still a day behind, Freeman, but I loved the scenes between Gabi and Abigail on Thursday. Camila Banus and Marci Miller were both great in those scenes.
This week’s promo looks like fun. I’m so glad they found a way to bring back Xander.May 21, 2018 at 7:02 am #1202551022
I was very glad to hear DAYS is doing relatively well in the ratings! It’s good that their move to third place isn’t just about GH losing viewers but also about their recent gains, which are well deserved.
The ending of the week was great! I loved Abigail’s confrontation with Stefan, Theresa’s return, and Gabi’s continued anger at what Abigail and Stefan did to her. Brady seeing Theresa at the very end was really great. I’m excited to see where this goes, and also excited for how much Xander is walking around shirtless in the promo.
Yes, Kyle Lowder returning is interesting. I was assuming he’d likely be a new character and figuring maybe a love interest for Chloe? (Anyone who has watched Chloe and Lucas together on screen can’t think that’s going to be a thing for all that long.) A friend and I were pondering whether he could be playing someone we know, and she suggested Phillip, which is both kind of crazy and actually maybe the best possible answer.
