If Leo is alive then who did they roll up in that heavy rug and dispose of? I know: it’s a soap and preposterous things happen all the time!
Does anyone know when the returns will be happening? Sami, Bonnie, Mimi, Nicole, etc.? Seems like it ought to be soon… so looking forward to hurricane Sami!
John Aniston is 85 and I am assuming that is why all of his scenes are on that couch! So glad he is still acting on the show!
James Reynolds has become a guest actor on the show – blink and you miss him he is on so infrequently these days.
Glad Eric is getting more screen time and it looks like he will get some heavy drama soon too.
Emmyloser: do you remember Sarah Horton? it says she hasn’t been on the show in 25 years, so that was early during Sami’s reign of terror on the show! Any thoughts on why they might be bringing her back?August 7, 2018 at 8:51 am #1202604500
From what I understand, Allison Sweeney, Stacy Haiduk, Martha Madison and Brandon Beemer will all start airing around the end of this month to coincide with the Jarlena wedding. Martha has said that her and Brandon will be airing for a few months and I have seen mentions from her and Nadia that there will be some story between Mimi, Chloe and Belle. Linsey Godfrey won’t air until late October, early November based on when she started taping and it seems from Twitter chatter and tweets from the actors themselves that she will be paired with Greg Vaughan. Not sure on the rest, but I would think Kyle Lowder should be relatively soon too since that news came out awhile ago, I would guess September since I think he’s been filming since March.August 7, 2018 at 9:10 am #1202604507
I’ve also been assuming that Leo is alive and in on Ted’s schemes against Will and Sonny. Leo feels poised for a classic soap opera villainsanity of blaming Will for Sonny not being into him enough to forgive him for the sexual harassment suit and all the plotting that went with it. Leo turning up alive is also probably the most exciting way to out Kate for having been behind it. Since Sonny and Will never got around to disposing of Leo’s body — they rolled him up in the rug and then put him in the trunk of his own car, but the car and the body disappeared before they could enact their brilliant plan to run the car into a tree and make it look like Leo was driving — it seems entirely reasonable Leo could have regained consciousness and started making enough noise for Ted or anyone to hear him and let him out, get him a little medical attention and have him fixed up good as new.
I also would much prefer Jennifer to stay with Eric rather than be with Jack when he returns, and actually I’d be interested to see the show attempt Jack in another pairing, whether with Kassie DePaiva’s Eve or someone else. Eve should totally come clean, as she can’t possibly believe this secret will last forever, but I would really like it if Eric at least didn’t find out what Brady did to him and Nicole until after their part in Marlena and John’s wedding is done.
I don’t know for sure when any returns are happening, and have basically been guessing based on what’s happening on screen. I’d figured Sami would be back for the wedding and would then stick around for a while, and Nicole would be back relatively soon because the plot point about her killing Deimos, pretty much the first thing Ron wrote upon getting to DAYS, has been so relevant lately. Though, given the number of times they’ve mentioned no one hearing from Sami, maybe she’ll be missing or kidnapped or something and a group of Salemites will need to mount a rescue of some sort. I believe Farah Fath was just slated for a handful of episodes that were supposed to air later in the year, but if her return is connected to Bonnie being back on, and Steve is involved in Bonnie’s return, that doesn’t really give a big window of time. I think Stephen Nichols last filmed in March maybe (I may be misremembering that), and so would only be airing into September. It is positively dizzying trying to keep track of the revolving door on this show.
Outside of knowing who she is, I don’t remember Sarah Horton at all. I don’t think the character was has been on for any overlap with Alison Sweeney’s Sami. Given Greg Vaughan’s comments about what a great job Linsey Godfrey has been doing and Jack’s impending return, my current guess is that she’s been brought on as a potential love interest for Eric (and/or Brady). My guess is that once the truth comes out and Nicole has come and gone again, tensions between Eric and Brady will once again be pretty high, and competing for the same love interest would play into that.
I agree that improved racial diversity would be nice, but at this point would be really tough to do given how many people are already on screen and how many more seem to be arriving soon. Theo’s gone, Abe and Valerie currently have no story, Eli and Lani seem to be on the backburner since losing the baby, and Paul will be gone in a matter of months. At least Gabi and Rafe are still getting plenty of screentime. It would always be good to see more of Melinda Trask kicking Justin’s butt in court. Am I forgetting anyone?
I also agree that Ben and Ciara should have more screentime, but it’s very clear the show didn’t anticipate just how great those two would be together.August 8, 2018 at 10:17 am #1202605481
So Kyle Lowder will be playing Rex Brady – my vague memory is that Rex was a twin (a female is the other twin?). I don’t remember the story well, I watched east coast soaps an only occasionally tuned in to Days back then; any details on who Rex is? Where he might fit on the show?
Watching the show at the moment: Hope trying to get Marlena to put Ben back in to the hospital; Ben telling Ciara he remembers everything about the night of the fire; Eli and Lani commiserate over their child’s death certificate…August 8, 2018 at 10:50 am #1202605514
Rex Brady? Interesting. Let me try to summarize this briefly:
Rex and Cassie were a pair of twins who were discovered in something looking like a pod, wearing shiny clothes straight out of a cheesy scifi movie, and were originally thought to possibly be aliens. It was soon discovered, of course, that Stefano was involved, and they were thought for a while to be the biological children of Marlena and Tony, via some form of genetic manipulation with Marlena having been used as an incubator basically during a time when Stefano was holding her hostage. (God, I forgot how gross this whole thing was.) Later it was discovered that their biological parents were Kate and Roman, but again, this was via some genetic manipulation, and I believe Marlena did carry and birth the twins in captivity. The reveal was discovered just in time to keep Cassie from sleeping with her brother Lucas, who at this time was running a gentleman’s club on behalf of the DiMeras. This was a really bad time on the show in a lot of ways, shortly before Jim Reilly came in with his serial killer story where everyone ended up on that island.
In terms of story, Rex and Cassie started hanging out with the teens at the time — Belle, Shawn, Chloe, Phillip and Mimi. Rex was a genius, and Cassie had a photographic memory. Rex eventually became very seriously involved with Mimi, who dubbed him Sexy Rexy, which is still what we call Eric Winter, who played Rex originally and has since gone on to a pretty nice career in primetime and movies, whenever we see him. Cassie was played by Alexis Thorpe, who had previously been on Y&R as Rianna. Rex and Mimi were together for a good while, but I think they broke up after she got an abortion without telling him, and he left town. Cassie was a victim of that serial killer storyline, maybe the fourth or so victim, and though she did turn up again when all the characters turned out to be alive and living on Melaswen, I don’t think she ever came back to Salem. She and Jack ended up in a burning castle somehow, and I think she survived that, but just never cared to come back to town. The twins did have an okay relationship with their biological parents from what I recall, but really once they left town they were rarely talked about. They weren’t great characters, so I really didn’t think we’d ever see either of them again, and eventually they’d just pretend like they never existed.August 10, 2018 at 6:35 am #1202606792
Now that Ciara is showing a renewed interest in Tripp, the show is even more interesting! And, of course, I always love how others are impacted by a central story. For example, Marlena and Hope experienced conflict while discussing Ben. Days plays those beats better than any other soap. I think it’s because the characters on Days actually have a lot of friends and family, so you really feel the tension when there is conflict. If Hope and Marlena were not friends and were always snarky to each other, their conflict would have been less noteworthy.
Speaking of Hope, Ben should have said, “Do you mind if I make a video of the offer you just made me?” Hope could get in so much trouble for that. Given her history over the last few years, she really needs to stop doing things like that.
I’m not surprised that Billy Flynn is leaving. He’s done a great job, but his role has become somewhat stagnant and I’m sure he is getting bored. The good news is that the canvas is overflowing with characters not to mention the possibilities for returns and new characters.
Interesting that they are reprising the character of Rex Brady. Perhaps his return will help to drive more story for Kate. By the way, I enjoyed Kate’s scenes with both Gabi and Abigail the other day. I love the way Kate tells it like it is — or at least the way that she sees it. Of course, forget the fact that Kate herself never really learns; you’d think after her involvement in Theo’s shooting that she would have more sense, but she still makes big mistakes.
I was surprised by the sour turn in Eli’s relationship with Lani. I’m just having a very hard time trying to understand where the writers are going with their story.
Vanessa Williams has not been on much lately and she’s so good. I wish she would get a juicy story.August 10, 2018 at 5:20 pm #1202607058
I read that Kassie DePaiva will be leaving the show but not for good – I wonder if her health is o.k., since she has been dealing with cancer? I hope all is well for her. It didn’t say how long she would be off the canvas.August 13, 2018 at 9:32 am #1202608414
I loved the dynamic in the scenes with Ciara, Ben and Tripp. When Ben realizes what’s going on and he looks around Tripp and says to Ciara, “Are you sure you wanna do this?” It was a little moment that just sizzled. I’m excited to see this storyline develop further, and it was great to get a couple days of this trio without Claire, who really doesn’t need to be involved to make it compelling.
I’m also loving the tension between Marlena and Hope, which has been well metered so far and really makes a lot of sense given their professional priorities. How could they not come to disagree sooner or later over a case like this, where the police commissioner just wants the person locked up and the renowned psychiatrist believes in the ability for rehabilitation? I’m glad also that Hope seems to be coming back somewhat from how unhinged she’s seemed lately. As much as her offering to drop Ben’s case if he’s leaves town is sketchy as best, at least it makes some degree of sense in terms of accomplishing her goal of keeping Ben away from Ciara, not that it’s going to work.
While I like Billy Flynn a lot and don’t necessarily want to see Chad gone, with all of the other characters that are and will be around I don’t think I’d miss him too much if he does. The character was at his best basically between the story about the necktie murders and the arrival of Stefan O. (maybe with the exception of those weeks where a bunch of the characters were stuck on that island and Chad and Gabi acted like they were honeymooning and it was beyond annoying). The writing for Chad lately has started to strip out some of the things that made Chad so lovable, and that really came to a head with him leaving Abigail after seeing Stefan touching her pregnant belly. As much as Gabi is the architect of this conflict, it almost feels like Chad’s just failed a test he should have been able to pass. Between this story and all of the stuff with Titan, he is definitely less sympathetic for me than he once would have been.
The writers seem to be just treading water with Eli and Lani. It seems like the only logical route right now is to explore pairing the two of them romantically, but I guess the show has other priorities and just wants to maintain their status quo.August 14, 2018 at 3:13 pm #1202609405
I enjoyed today’s episode mainly because there was some forward motion with stories moving along and also Will/Sonny/Paul all were on the same episode. Now Paul and Kate know what happened (or didn’t happen, if there is a plot twist in the future).
The confrontation scene between Eve and Jennifer was excellent. I do hope the cliffhanger has resolution and jennifer tells Eric the truth!
I read that Stacey Haiduk will be showing up soon but as Susan and not Kristen (at least in her first scenes). I am trying to keep an open mind, Ms. Haiduk is an excellent actress, but I sure wish it was Eileen portraying Susan.
I like the way that Marci Miller’s Abigail is shown to have some intuition that Gabi is being dishonest. It’s a subtle way she handles her lines and her body movements.
Looking forward to what happens next! (:August 15, 2018 at 9:29 am #1202609842
I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of episodes. The show had three good end-of-episode cliffhangers Monday with Abigail walking in on Chad, Gabi and Ari’s family moment; Paul demanding answers from Sonny; and Will seeing Ted emerge from Kate’s bathroom. They delivered on all three of those in Tuesday’s episode. I like that Abigail is clearly getting to the point where she’s tired of operating from a position of being apologetic all the time with both Chad and Gabi, especially Chad, and I’m glad she had words with both of them. Marci Miller’s done a good job of incorporating aspects of Gabby and a little of Dr. Laura into Abigail’s personality.
It was nice seeing Paul and Sonny having a good conversation about what happened with Leo and to see Paul being supportive. I am only slightly concerned that Gabi either overheard something or jumped to the wrong conclusion seeing them holding hands and will somehow try to leverage that to her advantage. The Will/Kate/Ted scenes were really great. Chandler Massey’s facial expressions are so good, and I loved seeing both Kate’s clear devotion to Will and Will threatening Ted on Kate’s behalf.
Scenes of Eve and Jennifer fighting are always great. I love that Eve went to the trouble of getting Jennifer a gift just to taunt her and then brought it over to do some in-person taunting. Her need to prove that Jennifer isn’t superior to her is such a great driving force in their dynamic. Eve’s line about Jennifer being editor-in-chief of Salem’s top provider of birdcage liners and puppy pads was hilarious. I’m a little torn about whether I want Jennifer to tell Eric the truth. For their relationship, I would love for her to tell him and for him to say it doesn’t matter because he’s done with Nicole. But I like that Eric and Brady are back to getting along (those scenes were nice as well), and I would hate to see that ruined by the revelation of what Brady did. Maybe she could tell him just part of the story, but I don’t think that’ll fly. I feel like at the very least Jennifer will keep mum until Marlena and John’s wedding so as not to ruin the plan of the brothers walking Marlena down the aisle together. Or that she’ll attempt to keep mum, but who knows what will happen.
While I am not thrilled with the idea of the lovely Stacy Haiduk inhabiting the role or Susan or Kristen, knowing that it is already happening and had been filming for months, and that it’ll be hitting the air eventually, I’m anxious to see what it’s like.August 15, 2018 at 6:39 pm #1202610164
The Kiriakis mansion is really hopping these days!
The last few days have been very good. The scenes with Will, Kate, and Ted were excellent, as were the follow-up scenes with Will, Sonny, and Paul. So crazy that Will went to Kate for money so that he could pay Ted, but even crazier than Ted blatantly tried to directly extort the money from Kate.
Marci Miller and Camila Banus killed it in yesterday’s episode! I’m glad that Abigail is getting suspicious.
I also enjoyed the scenes with Maggie and Victor. I love the way she puts him in his place.
Loved the scenes with Ben, Ciara, and Tripp. I can’t wait to see more of that story.
The confrontation between Eve and Jennifer was fantastic. I really hope that Jennifer tells the truth. Knowing that Eric and Jennifer will probably not stat together is a bit disappointing, however.
Most of the characters who will be returning have been mentioned lately. Makes me feel excited for what’s come.August 16, 2018 at 2:22 am #1202610368
My only disappointment is that Jennifer still hasn’t told Eric the truth ): Otherwise the past several episodes have been wonderful and I agree with robbalto on everything he said (ditto from me!) (:
I always have this subversive thought that Sonny, Will and Paul should just recognize they all love each other and have a 3 person relationship! Would that be a first for daytime! (; (of course I know this would never happen and that Paul is leaving anyway – I don’t think they will recast Paul, I have the feeling he will be killed off, but this is only a hunch on my part).
Looking forward to the returns and especially the confrontation between Bonnie and Adrienne! (:August 16, 2018 at 10:04 am #1202610578
I agree with all of that as well, robbalto!
While I had been a little torn about Jennifer telling Eric the truth, the writers haven’t attempted to give her any greater motivation for keeping the truth from Eric than not wanting to lose him to Nicole, which doesn’t feel like something she’d do, especially considering how earlier this year she was refusing to date him because she thought he wasn’t over Nicole. I guess it means Nicole is a consistent sore spot for Jennifer, and understandably considering their shared relationship history, but that still feels off. If not losing Eric to Nicole was just a fringe benefit of wanting to keep the peace between Eric and Brady, or not wanting to ruin Marlena and John’s wedding, or even just not wanting to throw Eric into emotional tumult with this news, I’d be more on board.
When I heard that DAYS was casting Gilles Marini, I really thought he’d just be kind of useless and pretty, but I love having Ted around. For one thing, it’s good to have a lawyer who isn’t the DA and is less scrupulous than Justin. (I bet if Ted had been Gabi’s lawyer, she wouldn’t have gone to jail.) But it’s also fun having a character who isn’t over-the-top evil but whose motives are just purely selfish and greedy. The fact that he’s now just trying to get the money from Kate is pretty crazy.
I also was reading a little more on Daytime Confidential yesterday about Stephen Nichols’ departure and the circumstances surrounding it. I’d been under the impression that DAYS wanted to reduce his episode guarantee, and thus also his overall pay, and he wouldn’t agree, so the show wrote him out. But here he says he ultimately agreed to a 30% cut but the show wrote him out without warning, which is pretty interesting. I wonder if they came up with an idea for writing him out that they liked so much they just stuck with it? Or if, in the time between them proposing their offer and him accepting it, the show assumed he wouldn’t budge and so offered the money to a different actor, like perhaps Matthew Ashford? The situation feels pretty unfortunate. Steve still isn’t a character I really love, and as a person who’s been watching this show basically since I was born in the early 80s, I don’t really care about Steve having a big story or any more story than he was getting. But the ways things worked out isn’t great.
I’m excited to see Bonnie! I saw Judi Evans in the credits on Monday’s and yesterday’s episodes as both Adrienne and Bonnie, so she must be showing up any minute now. I also can’t wait to get back to Ciara, Ben and Tripp.August 17, 2018 at 10:14 am #1202611455
While I was swimming this morning I was thinking about who are the leads on each of the four daytime dramas and I felt most stumped trying to decide the four lead actors from Days. Two were easy: Tyler Christopher and Billy Flynn. But the other two were much harder: Chandler Massey, Stephen Nichols, Freddie Smith and/or Robert Scott Wilson? Personally I would choose Chandler and Robert Scott… perhaps the next 4 months will clarify! (:
Days has been really good this past week. Stories are finally moving along but I am disappointed that Hope and Rafe are back together and I am not sure what would come between them now based on something I read (a spoiler) that was disappointing.
I am so glad they brought Ben back onto the show! He has really been bringing his A game to the role!
… I am watching right now and am so looking forward to Bonnie’s return, which is supposed to start today!August 17, 2018 at 11:27 am #1202611488
Yeah, I am not thrilled about Hope and Rafe’s reunion, but not unlike Hope herself, I think I’ve been worn down by so many people in town thinking they should get back together and their constantly being in scenes together. And I do have to give Rafe some credit that, after an initial full court press to get Hope to take him back, he really mellowed and has been there for Hope as both a subordinate and a friend in her quest to
framefind sufficient evidence to arrest Ben for setting that cabin ablaze. And it was nice to see Hope just being happy for a little while and not ridden with misplaced fury and overwhelming worry. I really hope Sami’s return puts a wedge between them, though.
Claire is such a hot mess. She seemed like a total wreck in her conversation with Marlena, but I guess it worked out for the best for the rest of us (sorry, Tripp), because I am really not getting enough of Ciara and Ben. The Claire/Marlena scenes also made me laugh because I thought back to Claire having an even more upset conversation with John like a week ago, and when Marlena asked, “How’s Claire?” John said something like, “She’s fine.” I think he elaborated a little, but his nonchalant tone and attitude were a pretty stark contrast to Claire’s demeanor. I can’t wait until all these people who are monitoring Ben, thinking he must have left town because he left the shelter, find out he’s staying in the kiddies’ apartment. They’re going to lose it.
Yeah, I was thinking the other day of who the leads are on DAYS also, and concluded that it’s pretty impossible to say beyond Marci Miller, Camila Banus, Billy Flynn and Tyler Christopher. Maybe for women I’d say Lauren Koslow and Kassie DePaiva? Or perhaps Kristian Alfonso and Mary Beth Evans? All four of those have been on consistently and have been moving along whatever story they’re in with their actions (all ill-advised actions of late). Though now it feels like the final third of the year may heavily feature Deidre Hall and Judi Evans, kind of like last year, so who knows. Right now I’d probably go with Kristian Alfonso and Lauren Koslow. The men feel even trickier. Eric Martsolf feels like he’s a little ahead of the rest of the pack, but then? Stephen Nichols, Drake Hogestyn, Freddie Smith, Chandler Massey? Stephen Nichols will soon be off screen, so I guess I’d count him out. Lamon Archey was getting a ton of screentime early in the year, but that’s subsided considerably. Galen Gering is on a fair amount, but he’s usually just a yes man or a sounding board. Some of the upcoming cast changes sort of point to Chandler Massey getting a good chunk of material, between Susan’s arrival and Paul’s departure, and I’m sure Nicole’s return will mean juicy stuff for Eric Martsolf and Greg Vaughan (and Melissa Reeves). We’ll have to see how this shakes out.
I’m very excited about this wedding! Usually on soaps, once they’re started asking people to be in the bridal party and tried on dresses, the wedding itself is only a bachelor/bachelorette party away, but I feel like I’ve already been waiting weeks for this wedding to start!
