This thread has gotten pretty long, but I’m fine with just keeping it going until we can’t for some reason, or there’s a breaking point where it feels like a good spot to start a new thread. Does that seem okay?
I just last night watched Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s episodes. I’m really feeling bad for Ben! But I am glad that this whole business with Claire is coming out now. Poor Ben spent most of that time telling Claire he wasn’t going to plot with her and that he didn’t want to lie to or manipulate Ciara, but I don’t know if it’ll come off that way. Ben having to deal with Chad being a jerk is also a shame. Why is Chad such a jerk now? I get that he hates Ben for what he did to him and Abigail, but it was pretty frustrating watching Chad blame Kate for the bad decisions he made regarding Abigail while Rafe yelled at Stefan for what he did to Gabi. It’s just a gross imbalance that no one seems to care about how Gabi used blackmail to ruin Kate’s relationship with Chad or the fact that she deliberately destroyed Stefan emotionally with her paternity test shenanigans. I was glad at least that Abigail said Gabi had it coming when she and Ciara were talking about Ben kidnapping Gabi. Anywho, I think Chad thought this interview with Ben would be amusing because Ben would come across like an idiot or would lose his temper and prove he’s not a changed man, but when Ben handled himself professionally and actually seemed qualified, Chad just got meaner and eventually ended it. I wonder if Chad would really consider hiring Ben if he breaks up with Ciara? I can’t imagine he would, so I don’t know why he said he might.
That Kate just declined being CEO of DiMera so that Chad could have it is huge, and honestly Chad should be more appreciative. Remember when Kate got Lucas fired from whatever company he was running so she could get the job? Chad really does not appreciate how much better of a mom she is to him than she is to any of her other/actual kids.
There were a lot of interesting dynamics in these episodes. It was cool to see Abigail and Ciara talking, and I was happy to see Ted back in a suit and in Hope’s orbit. I know Hope is doing the absolute wrong thing with all of her ridiculous attempts to put Ben in jail, but it’s still hard not to feel like Rafe should be more supportive and less critical.
And of course, I loved the Xander and Leo scenes. Can’t wait to see more of those two together. Sonny’s plans to get leverage on Leo by digging up his mother feels pretty questionable in terms of how effective it could be. I’m sure she really is terrible, but I feel like bringing in the relatives of the golddigging pest you were blackmailed into marrying is more likely to hurt you than help you.January 13, 2019 at 7:21 pm #1202732978
Xander and Leo are hot together. Unfortunately I saw a video where it looks like Xander might hook up with Maggie’s block of wood, Sarah. They should recast her with Melissa Archer. And right the wrong of casting Melissa as Serena.
Glad to see Melinda back. Now cast Mia Korf as the other sister and have her run into Southern Eve.January 13, 2019 at 8:25 pm #1202733130
I’m hopeful that now that Sarah isn’t trying to get Eric custody of Holly, she’ll be more tolerable. I enjoyed some of the stuff with her and Eric in Friday’s episode. I do still miss Melissa Archer, and while Sarah would have been a smarter choice for casting Archer, I loved Serena. She was a fun character, and the fact that she was playing some part in Eric and Nicole not being together was just a bonus.
The scene in Friday’s episode where Jennifer, Abigail, and JJ were telling Jack about a visit to London was really excellently done. Watching it, it felt impossible to believe this trip didn’t really happen. The flow of the dialogue and the connections between the characters were so believable and natural.
I can’t wait to see what Melinda Trask is up to now.January 15, 2019 at 4:59 am #1202734862
The ratings are up and Days is now in 2nd place – odd thing is I am not really enjoying the show very much right now. I am amused by certain scenes but I can’t think of one satisfying storyline at the moment.
I don’t like the Sarah-Eric pairing at all.
I don’t care about who gets to be CEO of which company.
Too many of my favorite characters are hardly ever on the show (Adrienne, Marlena, Maggie, and other veterans)
While Leo is amusing the story is preposterous.
I am not feeling compelled to watch. I can always tell when I go to make appointments I usually try to make them away from my soaps time periods but lately not so much.
Here’s hoping the show gets better in 2019!January 15, 2019 at 10:13 am #1202735289
I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying Jack’s return so far, despite being only lukewarm on the character and on Jack and Jennifer as a couple. You can already see that Jack, in the most classic of Jack fashions, has already realized he’s not good enough for Jennifer and figures that even if they get back together now, he’ll screw it up and she’ll dump him again. I didn’t understand how they’d make this story with Jennifer, Jack and Eve reasonable last more than a few weeks, but I think this writing is smart and true to character, and I could see Jack drawing himself closer to Eve because he feels they’re more on the same level.
Between Rex coming back into town and what appears to be Sarah getting it on with Xander in the preview, I guess Eric and Sarah aren’t just going to be an insta-couple, which is good, though if Eric isn’t going after custody of Holly, this thing with Sarah is the only storyline he has, so I’m sure they’ll continue to be around one another quite a bit.
Also, LOL at Melinda Trask claiming that she’s “related” to Haley as a fellow Chinese American. Nice try. I also loved her taking offense to JJ thinking she was Haley’s mother.
I do hope we see more of Marlena soon. She’s been pretty backburnered lately. I’m also looking forward to more development with Hope and Ted’s relationship, the way it’s affecting Hope’s relationship with Rafe, and what will come of these treason charges against Stefan, which I don’t honestly believe he’s guilty of. I’m interested to see where Gabi goes from here, storywise, and also what Ben will be up to for the next few weeks, since Ciara is going to be off screen visiting Theo. Jordan is supposed to be returning sometime soon, so I’m looking forward to that and curious to see if the writers can make her more interesting than she was before. And of course I’m eager to see more of Leo, Sonny and Will, with Xander now potentially getting involved.January 17, 2019 at 7:22 am #1202737458
These people in Salem are truly out of control.
How many times will Gabi invoke her daughter to escape the consequences of her reprehensible actions?
How was Ted’s ‘solution’ for Stefan, whereby he would implicate Ben for kidnapping Gabi, which had absolutely nothing to do with the crime for which the federal government wanted him arrested, supposed to even help him? Do you think Hope has any influence on how hard he gets prosecuted for crimes out of her jurisdiction? I was hoping that Hope would be somewhat content to know that Ben and Ciara broke up, and she left town. While she did clearly enjoy lording it over him that Ciara was visiting Theo, she clearly has no intention of backing off her harassment of him.
Since Eric has said now several times than Xander killed Nicole, does that mean he can stop blaming Brady for it? I know Eric is grieving, but seriously, how many people is he going to blame for Nicole being blown up in a warehouse when literally all she had to do was not go there? I take back what I said about Eric and Sarah being better now that they’re not trying to get Holly away form Chloe. They were equally insufferable in the scenes with Xander, but at least Sarah did the sensible thing had just called the police.
Possibly my favorite thing in yesterday’s episode was Rex talking about trying to get Sarah back, and Chloe just being mystified as to why he’d be going to so much trouble for Sarah.January 17, 2019 at 8:07 am #1202737492
Also, I wanted to mention that the way the show is now just changing all of the married women’s last names is annoying to me. I noticed in the credits that Marlena is now listed as Marlena Black, which just feels absurd since she has always gone by Marlena Evans through her dozen or so previous marriages. She’s been referred to once or twice as Marlena Evans Black, which seems fine, but eliminating the Evans altogether seems crazy. I also noticed that Abigail is listed in the credits as Abigail DiMera, even though she’s clearly going by Deveraux currently and has said so several times. It also feel ridiculous to me that Hope is now going by Hope Hernandez. She’s been Hope Brady for 30-something years now, but now she’s going to take on Rafe’s last name, even though the two of them barely seem to like each other anymore? I guess it doesn’t sit right with me largely because they don’t seem like a real couple with a strong bond, but more just like the show paired them out of convenience.
That’s my minor rant for the month of January.January 17, 2019 at 8:27 pm #1202738154
I’m really not liking the way Leo is “preying” on Xander. It doesn’t show gay men in a good light – it’s actually feeding into stereotypes of gay men.January 24, 2019 at 10:01 am #1202746911

Just read that Nadja Bjorlin has been let go (it actually said fired) – this show tapes so far ahead IDK when she would be leaving but it’s not a huge surprise. They are never quite sure what to do with her and she comes and goes quite frequently.
New stories coming up for John, and another for Ciara, and Jordan will be returning, a few others…
I have been a bit bored lately ):January 27, 2019 at 3:31 am #1202750073
I am hoping for Daytime Emmy nominations for Marci Miller, Tyler Christopher, Billy Flynn, Drake Hogestyn (never thought I would ever be hoping for this!), Kassie DePaiva, Eric Martsolf, Christopher Sean, Olivia Rose Keegan, Victoria Konefal, Lucas Adams and Kate Mansi. Sean and Mansi are my only first choice picks, which doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be happy with others on this list winning, just that there are GH actors in particular this year who I think deserve to win in their categories (Maura West, Jon Lindstrom, Kirsten Storms, Chloe Lanier and Garen Stitt). I don’t understand at all how in this day in age it takes them two months to tell us the nominees and then two more months to give out their awards! Good grief!January 27, 2019 at 11:53 am #1202750427
The fact that Kyler Pettis is on there for younger actor is kind of laughable, what did he even do last year aside from laying in a hospital bed and saying bye before he left. lolJanuary 27, 2019 at 12:31 pm #1202750477

The Younger Actor/actress categories are done differently – anyone who wishes to submit is automatically ‘pre-nominated’, so it means nothing. There was no panel that decided in his case whether he was worthy or not; the other 5 categories (I think this includes Guest performer?) have panelists who decide who the ten or so ‘pre-nominations’ are.January 28, 2019 at 12:00 am #1202752257
I’m going to defend Kyler Pettis a little here. I had actually forgotten that he was still on the show at all in 2018, but then I remembered that he’d had scenes with Stefan, so we was still around. And even though he wasn’t around for long, his farewell scenes were very good and surprisingly sad, almost devastating to watch for me. I think a large part of that was because as Theo was sad to be going, Kyler was at least as emotional about leaving the show, and he was just able to use that in the scenes.
And while NATAS definitely could shorten the time between nominations and the awards (are they attempting to maintain the illusion that more voting still needs to happen in that interim?), I think between the prenoms being announced and the nominations being announced, there has to be time for the pre-nominated actors to submit a full reel, and then a time period for the blue ribbon panels to watch those reels.
DAYS has definitely taken it’s foot off the gas a bit in the last few weeks, but it seems like things will ramp up as February sweeps are starting. There’s been a lot of focus on newer or less important characters lately, or stories that I don’t have much investment in. I’m really not interested in Sarah and Eric as a couple, and Eric is becoming increasingly annoying as the story progresses. Involving Xander has made it a little more fun, but still.
Melinda Trask also adds sparkle to any scene she’s in, and I love that she’s running for mayor. By contrast, Jack running for mayor (and on a platform of change!) feels absolutely ridiculous, and Eve’s machinations are frustrating to watch. I suppose this is the same woman who returned to Salem to try to get royalties from Jack’s book, but it feels like she should be better than this.
By far my favorite stuff this week was the Leo/Xander interactions. I can see why some wouldn’t love the way Leo’s behavior plays into some unfortunate tropes for gay characters, but this is really textbook behavior for a soap opera schemer, and it’s not like Leo was in any way threatening or blackmailing Xander. Leo has something Xander wants, and so he named his price. The resolution of it was pretty funny. I also love that the props department picked up those three condoms, and now they keep showing up in scenes. Good to know that both Leo and Xander believe in practicing safe sex.
It’s kind of a shame that Nadia Bjorlin will be gone from the show, but they really didn’t seem interested in giving Chloe a story, which seems so odd considering that she’s a popular character and there are a bunch of men on the show in her age range. Based on when that post of hers came up, I’m guessing she’ll be on the show until late July.January 28, 2019 at 5:11 am #1202752467
As usual Emmyloser writes a terrific post! (:
I am not sure how many Emmy pre-nominations there will be and I wouldn’t object to Kyler Pettis getting in since Casey Moss didn’t submit but I wouldn’t want him to win.
I read there is going to be a serial killer story coming up (is that tied into Chloe leaving? It didn’t say when Nadja will go but since they film so far in advance it’s hard to know). My guess is that Ben will be blamed, especially by Hope. I hope we don’t have any major characters die in the story.
I enjoy Paul Telfer so much but I did have an uneasy feeling about those Leo/Zander scenes.
Eric, one of my all-time favorite characters, has become totally annoying ): Jack’s Mayoral aspirations make zero sense.
I feel as though they don’t really have anything interesting for Will and Sonny to do any more. ):
Maybe John’s new story will be a good one and give Marlena more story too but I have my doubts.
I will keep tuning in but I really need for this show to get better soon!
