Scenes like the one between Hope and Victor are the reason why I watch soap operas. History, connections, family, love, excellent dialogue… I just loved it so much. The connection between Caroline and Victor was always very special to me and the scenes they shared over the last 10-15 years were few and far between, but always SOOO special. Except when they made that stupid mistake of having Caroline switch the paternity results for Parker, which I HATED, but I guess at least they chalked it up to dementia (or at least I did).
On the funeral itself, I thought it was very well done. I would have really LOVED to see Kimberly there (come one! It couldn’t have been that difficult to get Patsy Pease for one day!) and Shane also. But especially Kimberly.
And in my dream world, Billy Warlock would have come back as Frankie for the funeral and it would have been the perfect opportunity to add him to Jennifer and Eve’s stories. At least they referenced Max and Frankie, as there’s been some occasions over the years in which they refer to the Bradys as just Bo, Roman, Kayla and Kimberly.
In any case, rest in peace Peggy McCay and thank you for all the wonderful years and memories, and kudos for the writers and actors because the episode was very well done.June 21, 2019 at 7:37 am #1202946698
I have a feeling that all of the returnees will be leaving quickly and saying their goodbyes ): I wish Sami would come back permanently but I understand that Alison wants to do other things.
I was miffed that they didn’t dedicate yesterday’s episode to Peggy McCay ):
I’m guessing they will get back to Ted’s predicament soon.
Still hoping that the real Nicole returns to Salem and unmasks the fake Nicole! (:
btw where exactly is Holly?June 21, 2019 at 12:29 pm #1202947344
I thought they did a great job in the tribute episode for Peggy McCay. However, they interrupted it halfway through to air Trump’s comments on Iran.June 22, 2019 at 3:48 pm #1202948227
The family connections on Days continue to be strong and meaningful. This episode was mostly really good. I do wish there had been more clips of Caroline though. But overall it was a very touching sendoff for an iconic character. She was on the show for over 30 years and had connections to almost every other important character!June 24, 2019 at 2:38 pm #1202950266
Zander and Ted’s scenes were interesting but I am wondering how Zander can get away with double-crossing insane Kristen?
Sami and Kate are both growing suspicious of “Nicole” – Sami getting a hold of the mask was hilarious! (;
I still just plain don’t like Sarah at all and don’t care about her or her storyline ):
Trying to remember what else happened on today’s episode…June 27, 2019 at 3:19 pm #1202954242
I am enjoying Ciara and Tripp teaming up to trick crazy Claire. It was nice to see Claire with Shawn too. Who posted bail for Ben?
Glad Jack will try to get his memories back as I don’t like his storyline at all! I liked Will’s scene with Jack today.June 28, 2019 at 11:38 am #1202955223
Today’s cliffhanger was great! At first I was thinking it would be Tripp or Claire on the floor but perhaps not? Maybe it’s just blood or the bloody knife? I doubt it would be Ciara because Ben didn’t react all that much…
Why is Sarah wearing the necklace? Wouldn’t it tick Rex off? It’s just a plot device for Hope to notice it to lead her on the trail of missing Ted…
I liked that Marlena believes Ben.
I cited Olivia Rose Keegan for today’s episode – she was great going through so many different emotional turns and then when she went psycho on Tripp, yowzers!June 29, 2019 at 2:40 pm #1202956180
I haven’t had a chance to post in over a week, but I’ll try not to make this too long.
First off, other than the lack of flashbacks, I loved the tribute to Caroline. It was beautiful, and I thought they really did a perfect job in terms of who was involved and what they shared. Having Kimberly would have been nice, but I wouldn’t have included anyone else who’s on the show currently. For something that was just a single episode, it was all the right people. Having Hope go over to spend time with Victor was just lovely and so special. Kudos to everyone who helped put that together.
And frankly, I think the show has picked up considerably since then. Storyline stakes are increasing, and stories are moving into modes that are at least more interesting than before. Jack wanting his memories back is a good turn of story, and the interactions between him and Will were very good. I wish, though, that people would start making photocopies of that journal instead of passing it from person to person. What if they need it again?
With Kate and Ted both now locked in the secret room (at least as of the end of Thursday’s episode, the most recent I’ve seen), I feel like something has to be coming to a head fairly soon. This isn’t the 90s, where people just casually accepted that a person was kidnapped (likely by Stefano) for months on end, and would just kind of look for clues in their spare time. People will notice that Kate is missing, and Hope is already hunting for Ted. I’m eager to see what Xander does about all of this.
The story with Claire is coming to a climax, and it’s been really fun. It’s good to see Ciara and Ben having to be clever about things. I think too often soaps now just let characters being victimized do one stupid thing after another, so at least Ciara is being smart about things. Well, to a degree at least. Her plan with Tripp is hilariously dangerous. I was laughing out loud watching her and Tripp get themselves set up at the end of Thursday’s episode.
It’s so hard to tell how long anyone who returns will stick around, but I’m glad there were some Claire/Shawn scenes. It’s pretty easy to forget that Shawn and Belle are Claire’s parents. It still seems silly to me how poor a job soaps have generally done of passing the baton to the next generation of legacy characters in some cases. Why bring in people like Sarah and Rex — characters who did technically exist before but not with either of the actors playing the role now — when they could write for Belle and Shawn? (That said, I’ve come to really love Sarah, despite her incredibly poor decision making. Letting Rex talk her into having Eric marry them on their lunch break was just unbelievable!)
Anywho, I’m not sure about Sami, Lucas or Shawn, but I know Carrie is at least staying around long enough to get into some drama with Rafe and Hope, which is an interesting choice. But anytime my all time favorite character is back on my screen I’m certainly not going to complain about it. Sami’s been such a joy to have back. It would be great if she could come back every couple of months, even if just for a few episodes, to say and do all of the stuff the other people aren’t. Her doing a happy dance when Eric told her he was giving up on ever being with Nicole was so great. How is it more people aren’t reacting this way, after everything Nicole has done to basically everyone? The fight between Sami and Kristen was also great.June 30, 2019 at 1:47 am #1202956454
Anybody have any thoughts on what exactly Marlena and Ben are looking at as they enter the apartment at the end of Friday’s episode? At first I thought it would be Tripp but then I thought it might be blood on the floor? I am wondering if Claire somehow moved them to the cabin but I don’t get how she could do that? It was a terrific cliffhanger – I have been wondering about it all weekend! (:
Yes, the show has picked up steam the past several weeks! (:June 30, 2019 at 10:04 pm #1202957276
I’m thinking it’s something like blood or a mess that suggests something terrible happened, but nothing all that substantial itself. But who knows! I was convinced that Claire almost cutting Tripp’s throat was another fantasy sequence, but it seemed to be real by the end of it. Which is kind of funny, because Claire is so slight that I’d think either Tripp or Ciara could easily overpower her. I guess we’ll soon see!
Sarah does not seem like a woman who is ready to be committed to a marriage. Xander made her some food and gave her a necklace, and she looked ready to sleep with him again. The fact that she’s actually wearing that necklace is just another bit of proof that she doesn’t care enough about Rex to actually be in a relationship with him.July 1, 2019 at 1:56 am #1202957480
I think what they will see is actually Tripp and that Claire has taken Ciara to the cabin and will set yet another fire. I have read that Olivia Rose Keegan’s last air date is July 9th so they must be wrapping the story up in a hurry this week, and I know Belle is coming back for the wrap up this week. We will know soon enough!
Sarah’s wearing the necklace makes her appear foolish and uncaring but it’s really just a plot point so that Hope can find Ted (and Kate).July 1, 2019 at 11:11 am #1202957963
I was right, Tripp was what they saw on the floor and Claire has taken Ciara to the cabin! I figured with only 7 more episodes they aim to wrap this up in a hurry!
I felt there was something a bit off with today’s episode, a sluggishness in the pacing. I wasn’t all that excited, mainly because they kept on irritating me by going back to vacuous Sarah and Rex (I know others like them but for me they are a snoozefest to watch). I don’t get at all how Zander thinks he is going to be able to keep Kristen from finding out he didn’t kill Ted and Kate? I guess he’s just stalling for time?
I have to give kudos to Olivia Rose Keegan – she was a terrible actress for quite some time when she first came on the show as Claire but grew tremendously over time and developed strong acting skills! (Hayley Erin on GH had the same trajectory, and of course is now an Emmy winner!). I will miss crazy Claire! (:July 2, 2019 at 9:44 am #1202959195
I loved yesterday’s episode! The characters that I find really slow down the pacing of episodes, for me at least, are Haley and Jack, so without them the episode moved along nicely.
You totally called it, Freeman, that Tripp was on the floor and Claire had taken Ciara to the cabin. I was pretty incredulous about Claire somehow overpowering either Ciara or Tripp, let alone both of them, but Tripp explaining that he fell and hit his head trying to escape Claire’s grasp seems close enough to reasonable. Lucas Adams, Olivia Rose Keegan and Victoria Konefal all did a great job in this episode. I know Claire won’t succeed in killing Ciara, but VK really sold how urgent and dire Ciara’s situation is. I loved every scene in this part of the show, including Tripp’s touching moment with Kayla.
The Ted/Kate scenes were also great. The two of them are really funny as antagonists trapped together. I’ve been surprised and impressed with how effective Gilles Marini has been. I’m not sure what Xander is planning to do about Kate and Ted. He seemed to almost be trying to make Kristen wish they hadn’t killed Kate, as if to soften the blow when she finds out that he didn’t. I feel like at some point Xander is going to have to decide to really kill Kate and Xander or, and this seems more likely, just try to take down Kristen instead, or at least neutralize her. In any case, I hope that Hope proves Kate wrong and actually does track down her and Ted. Imagine the good guy points Xander can score if he just admits to (a version of) what actually happened and blames everything on Nicole/Kristen?
Dear Sarah is a real mess. I think it’s hitting me now just how much she must be acting from a place of insecurity. It shattered her that Rex cheated on her in a terrible one-two punch of sleeping with her sister and fathering a child with his ex. But the next man she fell for, Eric, rejected her about a dozen times, to not hurt his brother, to not complicate her life, to pursue Nicole. She sleeps with Xander, who she seems to genuinely like at least a little, but everyone acts like he’s the devil and she is roundly lambasted for it. So I guess I can understand why she’s wearing the necklace, which was given to her by the only man she’s shown interest in over the last year who hasn’t made her feel like garbage at one point or another. It’s also worth saying that the show is doing absolutely nothing to make Rex a likable character, or much of a character at all. His only personality traits are being completely oblivious to subtext and not getting his own apartment.July 2, 2019 at 10:49 am #1202959305
I keep on wishing they would get back to Claire, Marlena, Hope, Ciara and Ben – kinda bored with J.J./Haley, and Jack/Eve’s scenes. My guess is that Claire will go to a psychiatric hospital to work out her pyromania and her many other issues.
I can understand Shawn’s feelings but he does need to see clearly that she tried to kill Ciara, Tripp, Haley and set up Ben and has huge issues! It’s nice to see Brandon Beemer though! I know Belle is coming back this week too (Martha Madison). I forgot that Hope and Marlena are both Claire’s grandmothers! Just like Kate and Marlena are both Will’s – the family tree is so weird in Salem! (:
Yes, Rex is a miss for me too. He just doesn’t add much to the canvas.
I am protective of Zander – he does such crazy awful things but I don’t want him to leave the show! (;
