Thanks for your message, Freeman! I’m glad you mentioned it, because I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.

The pre-emptions are very annoying, but at least with DAYS, the episodes are usually posted online and on demand. Even if the show is driving me up a wall, I still want to see it! It’s crazy that the show just refuses to hold episodes ever because it ruins their schedule for the next seven months.

My biggest problem is that the show has become too plot driven and not enough character driven.

I am not enjoying Haley at all. I miss who Gabi used to be and she’s a really good example of plot driven story that isn’t all that character driven.

I miss Adrienne, long for a story for Marlena, wish they would explore Will and Ben and give Sonny something completely different to do, get rid of Sarah (I find her and Haley to be the most annoying characters on the show), need for the real Nicole to show up (and to see Holly again – my guess is that they will SORAS Holly by the time they finally get around to it), tired of Eve (and also Jack).

With all that said I am certainly enjoying this show more than Y&R. I am always grateful to turn the channel after the first half hour of Y&R and spend time in Salem instead of Genoa City! The actors and characters are carrying the show when the writing isn’t very strong. I am also really looking forward to Robin Strasser’s guest stint in September. Here’s hoping new better stories are written during the fall and early winter of 2019!

While I was swimming this morning I was thinking about who the leads are in 2019 from each of the four remaining shows. Days is really tricky, as so many are borderline leads in terms of screen time and impact. The only lead male I felt completely definite about is Brandon Barash as Stefan. For borderline male leads I have Chandler Massey, Freddie Smith, Greg Vaughan, and then a case could be made for Tyler Christopher and Billy Flynn despite their having left the show early in the year. Everyone else feels supporting to me, although I watch the show with total love for Paul Telfer’s Zander and he has gotten a great deal of screen time?

For actresses Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) have been leads but they are both eligible for Younger Actress; I would say that Linsey Godfrey (Sarah), Stacey Haiduk (Kristen and Susan) and Arianne Zucker (“Nicole”/Kristen) have the screen time and story to be considered leads, but then it gets tricky: Kristian Alfonso, Camila Banus, Kassie DePaiva, Lauren Koslow and Melissa Reeves all have had a great deal of screen time but are they leads? What says you?

I think your placements are spot on, youngsoapfan, and I’d throw Linsey Godfrey in the lead group as well. It’ll be interesting to see if and how the screentime changes as the year progresses.

The show does seem to have thrown character and common sense out the window in many cases, and I’ve certainly done my share of complaining about it. I’m still trying to be patient with Haley, and I was genuinely happy to see her (more for JJ’s sake than mine) when she showed up at his door after her apparent deportation, but now she just feels like another lackluster love interest for JJ who is getting too much screentime and being rather ridiculous. I would have a hard time having any patience for a friend who was refusing to get professional help for the level of trauma she’s experiencing (odd, because she didn’t seem to feel traumatized by Claire at all before she was sent off for treatment), especially one who’d attempted suicide in the past year. I’ve been tired of Jack and Eve both, but I have started to change my mind since Jack thought he took the serum and then suddenly became a better person/father/ex-husband. What a placebo effect! The scenes with Eve and Jack having it out over her burning the diary and giving him a fake serum were great. Kassie DePaiva really excels in those kinds of scenes, and she was excellent. The writing was also very good, I thought, because it showed that Eve was of course wrong for what she did but also sympathetic in ways.

I would like the show to find some balance with Gabi. There are scenes where she’s being pretty evil, and other scenes where she’s extremely loving and caring, and those don’t seem well integrated into one another. I’d be fine with her being a fun bad girl character, but they’re missing the mark.

I’m also hoping the real Nicole emerges soon, and to find out what is happening with Holly. I think the show underestimates how much fans care about where Holly is and Nicole actually coming back.

One of the problems with the show is that most of the stories aren’t on often enough to make us care in so many cases.

There is going to be a murder next week – the last air date for the performer playing the murder victim is August 5th. It isn’t who I thought it might be…(but the murderer is!)

I did enjoy Will taking sense to Hope!

There have been rumors that Kassie DePaiva may be exiting the show. I have mixed feelings about it – I love her as an actress but I don’t know what more they can do with her character. Personally I would have preferred for Eve and Jennifer to have fought over Frankie (and to have brought back Billy Warlock in the role!) but that never happened. Perhaps it will be another temporary leave, which she has done before.

I have been finding the show too melodramatic and implausible lately; yet with that said it has been entertaining anyway.

I’m still a few days behind, but a couple of positive things:

Between the Friday and Monday episodes, Kassie DePaiva did some really incredible work. I’d love to see her pair those two episodes together and pare them down to an Emmy submission. And I agree that as much as I love Kassie, the show hasn’t come up with any sustainable story ideas for Eve that make keeping her around seem plausible. It seems like it should be easy to throw her into a relationship or semi-relationship with someone and just give her a job that isn’t stolen from someone else. How great would it have been if Frankie had shown up in Salem to memorialize Caroline, saw what was happening with Jennifer and Jack, stayed to support Jennifer through Jack’s jackassery and then eventually reluctantly bonded with Eve over being jilted because of the gravity of Jack and Jennifer? It gets Frankie (a character I love) back in town and gives Eve something to do.

Also, I was eager to see if, when Tony and Kristen had their first encounter on Monday, there’d be any mention of them being married in the 90s. Of course, what was written at the time as Tony was later retconned to be have been Andre all along, and I didn’t know if that writers would remember. Seems like they did, since they only mentioned Stefano having groomed them in their youths to get married, and Tony seemed quite disgusted by the idea.

DAYS is also launching Chabby in Paris digital episodes, doing a handful of six- to 10-minute episodes to show what Chad and Abigail have been up to in their time away. They’re launching on the DOOL App today and on NBC.com and the NBC app next week, and will feature Billy Flynn, Kate Mansi, and (for some reason) Austin Peck. I’m excited for those. I suppose they can put these together and get them out more quickly than they can regular over-the-air content. It also gives them another avenue to competing for Emmys, which is interesting. I’m looking forward to them.

Interesting! It seems like a glaring error that Haley has been in more episodes than JJ, Tripp, Claire and even Jack, despite being the character in that storyline people probably care least about. How is that a good idea? Nice to see Hope at the top of the list, but it would be nice to see Marlena getting somewhere near that level of screentime as well.

    Excellent cliffhangers: Kristen plans on killing Gabi; Hope tries to get Ted to tell her the truth, overhears Kate in the park; Eric is in trouble with yet another half-brother, GABI THOWS NEW HUBBY STEFAN OUT OF THE MANSION!, Gabi is the new DiMera CEO… a jam-packed Friday episode! Too melodramatic but (;

The Thursday/Friday episodes were really fun. Gabi and Kristen following through on their plans and then fighting with each other about it was great. I love Gabi as a bad girl when she’s just messing with other villains (which, at this point, I don’t consider Stefan to be). Love watching Camila Banus and Arianne Zucker going back and forth with each other.

It was also good to finally see Sarah finally telling Rex about her feelings for Eric, which has been such a long time coming. Now this story can move on to Sarah being torn between Eric and Xander, much more fun. Speaking of Xander, it was really cute when Kate mentioned to him that she’d knocked Sarah over the head, and he immediately soften and asked if Sarah is okay. Hope snooping around Ted’s place was great as well. And I love that Will is the only person who compared Ted’s statement to the CCTV footage from the docks to prove that Ted was lying. Is no one at the PD or the DA’s office doing their jobs?

I’m looking forward to this week and seeing what happens next!

Surprised that Kristen’s scheme to frame Stefan actually worked, she’s usually pretty incompetent, at least in this particular guise.

There is a rumor that Nicole is coming back and I so hope it is true (: I want Nicole to be the one to expose Kristen! (:

I wonder how Vivian will play into all of this? So looking forward to September! (:

I become happy each and every time Maggie shows up on my television screen! (:

The show has been too melodramatic lately – too plot driven at the expense of characters.

I thought the last couple of episodes were highly entertaining, and I really enjoyed them. The plottiness of the show is irksome to me as well, but at least the plots are starting to pay off. Camila Banus was been on fire. I actually would enjoy seeing her and Brady going toe to toe in a DiMera vs. Titan battle. Neither of them seem all that qualified to be CEO on a giant corporation, but there would be no shortage of plotting or scheming.

It’s hard not to be very tired of Kristen’s antics sometimes. It really bugs me that the show had Tony be the one to kill Ted instead of letting him fight with Kristen over that gun. She also keeps getting lucky with people being in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time. Not only should her Ted scheme not have worked, but did no one have questions when a woman in a scarf and sweater dress in August and shades at night was dragging a chest from the Salem Inn to Ted’s apartment building? Come on. It should be fairly easy for Stefan’s attorney to prove, at the very least, that he didn’t shoot Ted, but I’m sure it won’t be. I wonder if Hope and Ben will be working together to try to figure out what’s really happening. Maybe Will too, since he’s investigating it as a reporter.

Jack is suddenly talking like he thinks he’s the hero in an old detective movie. It’s weird.

It makes me chuckle hearing Rex describe what happened with him and Sarah, saying they were in bed about to make love, but the long sweater Sarah was trying to go to sleep in implied otherwise.

I have been enjoying Days very much lately. It’s been so much better than the awfulness of the beginning of the year. They have focused more on the interesting storylines like Kristen/Nicole and Stefan/Gabi and less on the terrible ones like JJ/anyone else and Eli/Lonnie. I look forward now to seeing what happens next. I still don’t like Stacy Haiduk, but Arianne Zucker has been killing it.
