^Y&R has certain episodes that would potentially be winning submissions, particularly from early in the year during the J.T. storyline and also when Dina took Christian, Hillary’s death, a few others I remember citing as well. It all depends on the submissions. I don’t think the panelists follow the soaps closely the way we do, so they don’t know that those individual episodes do not accurately reflect the state of Y&R throughout the year. It also would depend on what the other 3 shows submit as well.October 23, 2018 at 9:49 am #1202659855
You know what would be fun? If each nominee in drama series submitted two episodes of their show and one episode from each competing show. For each nominee, the voters would randomly see one of the episodes chosen by the show itself and one chosen by its competitors, so you see potentially the best and worst a show has to offer. I guess that’s not in keeping with the spirit of awarding the best in daytime or any medium, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the Emmys give it a try.October 23, 2018 at 5:05 pm #1202660291
The ugliness continues to roll out on Y&R. It’s just getting depressing at this point.
I think Y&R will be a strong contender at the awards next year. Even though the show has a lot of problems, they have some really strong dramatic material that will likely result in a slew of nominations.
EmmyLoser: “I guess that’s not in keeping with the spirit of awarding the best in daytime or any medium.” The way you conceded this point in such an understated manner made me smile!October 23, 2018 at 7:46 pm #1202660369
I think I might need to take a break from Y&R. I have truly hated Ashley’s exit story; it is everything that is wrong with soaps nowadays ): The problem for me is that I enjoy so many of the actors so much it is hard to walk away. I have stopped watching B&B and will only return if I hear good things about it, read that necessary changes have occurred and it stops being “the Bill and Liam show”.
I absolutely love Marla Adams and it was such a pleasure to see her today, but the storyline is so hateful and awful that it is too hard to watch.November 2, 2018 at 2:44 pm #1202667021
As much as I like Thad Luckinbill I do not want them to reverse course and for J.T. to be improbably still alive ): I am actually tired of all the sci-fi back from the dead characters on daytime and excused Will on Days being alive because it was necessary to right that particular wrong. I also burst out laughter at their identical masks as they dug up his burial spot!
My head starts to hurt when they get into all that who will be CEO junk. I don’t care. I care about the characters not who has power. I was bored by those scenes.November 7, 2018 at 3:52 pm #1202670566
On the most recent Daytime Confidential podcast, the pundits were raving about Eileen Davidson’s exit story. I did not care for it, but I can see their point in that the episodes were very well-produced. If I had never seen the show before, I think I would have loved them.
Y&R last Friday was really bad. The prospect of Phyllis as CEO is absurd. The entire episode was played not for the empowerment of women, but for the use of power as a means for revenge. The notion that Billy would stay on board is implausible, even if he does want to reclaim Jabot. And the idea that Lauren would sign on as COO when she already has her own company is dubious at best.
The one interesting aspect of the episode, the reveal that JT was not where they left him, was given short shrift, considering the enormity of its impact.November 9, 2018 at 11:54 am #1202671585
Wow, robbalto, you may very well be right about Tessa – where did she get all that money from? I read that Tristan Lake Leabu is returning to the show as Reed, which made me think I might be right in thinking he is the one who is sending the notes to the 4 murderesses. That storyline is interesting but I miss Paul being the lead investigator – more was at stake with Paul involved in it.November 11, 2018 at 3:00 am #1202672473
Fires have destroyed the homes of both Eileen Davidson and Tracey E Bregman ): So sad to hear.
Is anyone else getting tired of all these back from the dead stories? We see characters definitely being killed but no, they somehow miraculously survive – I am hoping J.T. stays dead but I am worried that here we go again with another “he (or she) isn’t really dead” story ):
I am completely intrigued though by the money in the bag that Tessa is hiding from Mariah…November 11, 2018 at 5:24 am #1202672556
That’s sad to hear about Eileen and Tracy’s houses being destroyed. Hopefully everyone is safe.
I haven’t watched Y&R in weeks. I lost interested awhile ago.November 11, 2018 at 10:49 am #1202672667
Update: the fire at Eileen Davidson’s only reached her yard and fortunately not her house! However, Tracey E Bregman’s house burned down ): Sad to report.November 12, 2018 at 9:44 am #1202673368
Yes, very sad for Tracey Bregman that she lost her home! It’s fortunate the fire didn’t destroy Eileen Davidson’s house, but how scary to be in that situation. Thank goodness it sounds like everyone was safe.
Back-from-the-dead stories are a mixed bag for me generally. I suppose because they’re such a staple, I’m generally okay with them, unless the show goes to lengths to try to convince you a character is dead all the while intending to just resurrect them. I do also feel there are some deaths that felt too final to believably (that being a relative term, of course, since pretty much none of it is legitimately believable) reverse them. Hilary, unfortunately, is a good example of that. The way she was killed off feels like something that really can’t be undone. On the other hand, what happened with JT is almost the script for a character only seeming but not actually being dead. (Unconscious and bleeding after a blow to the head, pronounced dead by a panicked layperson, wrapped up in a rug and buried somewhere.) I do agree, though, there’s much more value at this point in leaving JT dead than returning him to life.November 12, 2018 at 4:20 pm #1202673681
I am probably using too much real life logic when I need to be using soap opera illogic in thinking about Tessa’s bag full of money! If Tessa already had this money in her apartment why would she invite Mariah to live with her? Or did the money show up in Mariah’s things? It’s a puzzlement…
I am really bothered by Rey leading the investigation rather than Paul…
I had heard that Eric Braeden was taking a break; when was the last time we saw Victor? It feels like it has been awhile but I haven’t watched every single show lately.
Tristan Lake Leabu is returning to the show as Reed; not sure when his first air date is though.November 13, 2018 at 7:53 am #1202674158
Y&R casting department has been busy! They’ve just cast a new actor to play Fen, Zac Tinker, who begins airing in early December (as Max Ehrich wasn’t able to return), and they seem to be trying to bring on one or two other young characters as well. The show seems to be bringing in a lot of new or returning characters.November 13, 2018 at 9:03 am #1202674183
If they’re bringing back Feb, I wonder if we’ll see more of Michael and Lauren?!
