I have such mixed feelings when I watch Y&R. Parts of it are interesting, while at times I am bored.
Cane has become the character to watch. I am rarely bored by his stories. Ditto with Victoria; I almost always enjoy her scenes. Other characters that I enjoy include Mariah, Nikki, Billy, Lily, and Hilary.
I dislike the story with Victor stealing millions of dollars from his family. I am bored with the sex trafficking story and have lost interest in the mystery surrounding Graham’s identity. I am ready for all these stories to end.
Overall, I think the show needs to develop its younger set and pick up the pace a bit.October 8, 2017 at 1:55 pm #1202232642
With the exception of Mariah and my love for certain actors and actresses this show has gone off track the past several months ): it was my favorite show for the first half of 2017 but the current stories aren’t resonating for me. I continue to watch for the actors and because there are only four soaps left on the air. I agree with robbalto that they need to end the current stories and start new and hopefully more interesting ones!October 11, 2017 at 10:56 am #1202234918
I loved today’s episode of Y&R: crisp clean writing and direction; superb performances by everyone; actual plot development (Graham is plotting revenge against the Abbotts!); nice to see Gloria; the t.v. interview between Hillary and Nick; so nice to see Traci again… tomorrow’s episode looks even better! Kudos to Marla Adams, I am so enjoying her work on the show since she has come back earlier this year!October 11, 2017 at 12:49 pm #1202234992
Yes, I enjoyed today’s episode as well. Marla Adams has been doing a great job. Max Shippee (Graham) has been great, too. I kind of figured he was going to be a bad character, I just didn’t know how he’d be involved. I just hope Y&R keeps him. Eileen Davidson has been terrific. It was great to see Traci and Gloria.
I read Mal Young’s writing was going to start in Oct. I wonder if this was his first script or when it actually starts?
On a side note, I read that pic of Graham (from the yearbook) is actually Max Shippee’s senior class photo.October 13, 2017 at 4:49 pm #1202236649
I have such an awful feeling that Dina is gong to be killed off ): all this will talk has me very worried ): I love Marla Adams as Dina and want her to continue on the show…October 13, 2017 at 6:37 pm #1202236690
The Abbott’s drama is far more entertaining then the Newman’s. Eileen Davidson, Marla Adams and Max Shippee have been stellar the past two episodes. I’d love to see both Eileen and Marla get Emmy nominations. It’ll be interesting to see the fallout of everyone finding out Ashley isn’t an Abbott and how the reactions of her family/friends.October 15, 2017 at 2:43 pm #1202237817
I am somewhat reassured and relieved by a short interview I read with Marla Adams that she is not going to be killed off and I hope that I understood her words correctly (it was a bit on the vague side but it didn’t seem to be saying her run on the show is over). I absolutely am hoping Marla Adams gets an Emmy nomination and Eileen Davidson keeps on going in and coming out of my top five with another Y&R actress (Amelia Heinle); my top four is really clear in mind (Hall, Sofer, West and Zucker!)… Looking forward to tomorrow’s episode!October 25, 2017 at 1:57 pm #1202248064
Today started Mal Young’s writing. Must say I really enjoyed the ending segment with the song. Paul saying he found Dina. Victoria passing out. Scott being drugged and waking up to a dead prostitute. Tmrws previews looked good, too.October 27, 2017 at 4:38 pm #1202306525
Y&R has become more fast paced; action packed; and cliff hangers wanting me to watch more. It’s been great seeing Paul, Lauren and Michael on more. The stories have me intrigued.October 27, 2017 at 4:49 pm #1202307279
Mal Young’s material has aired! Already, the comments are flying on DC message boards, and they are a mix of positive and negative. Gatorman, you made some good points in your post. I think it’s too soon to draw any conclusions, but thus far I have mixed feelings. The stories were dragging, and now they have finally started moving. That’s the good news. The problem is that I do not really like the stories. Scott was helping with the sex trafficking takedown, so I find it implausible that so many are questioning his motives. Zack has been written into a corner and his character is essentially ruined, so it’s just a matter of time before he is written off the show. I am somewhat bored with the story involving Graham and Dina. I dislike what has happened to Victoria, but it has ignited story and I am willing to play along and hope for a good payoff. I enjoyed the fight between Sharon and Lauren, with Mariah running interference. In any case, I am hoping these stories will wrap soon so that we can move on to new ones.November 1, 2017 at 4:10 pm #1202399816
Is it possible that Victor is responsible for the tainted face masks? He wants Victoria to need him; he wants Newman to take over Brash and Sassy. He has had little luck with Nick, so is he thinking that at least he can control one of his children?November 2, 2017 at 8:51 pm #1202400829
The fire at the Underground was a little underwhelming. That place collapsed a few years, too. Nick must have good insurance on the place. It’s odd that by the time Billy found the kids and they exited that room, they were able to get outside within a minute.
I will say Camryn Grimes is doing stellar work. Her work today was amazing. She and Sharon Case are a delight to watch together.
As for the face mask scandal, I’m not sure who would have tainted them. I’m kind of leaning towards Victor.
I find Abby annoying. My hope is that Zach kidnaps her for the sex ring and they leave Genoa City together.November 5, 2017 at 6:13 am #1202402442
I didn’t understand why Dina went to The Underground? has it been established that she has dementia? Does she have any memory of having gone there? I was surprised she started the fire. (I did enjoy Jack’s reaction to the case of the missing old-fashioned LP! Now you see it, now you don’t!) (:
The show remains so mixed for me, with good and bad parts. The fire didn’t really lead to much and was underwhelming for me.November 6, 2017 at 5:10 pm #1202403606
Perhaps Mal Young wants to go in a new direction with Nick and Noah, making that the point of the fire. The business with Dina being there was simply a plot contrivance/convenience.
I cannot tolerate Victor any longer. Mal needs to either mellow him out or take him down.November 15, 2017 at 5:21 pm #1202411934
I hate that Victoria is taking Brash & Sassy back to Newman Enterprises. Y&R has too many businesses. They need to narrow the focus to just Jabot and Brash & Sassy. I do not care at all about Newman Enterprises. I liked that Victoria was running her own company. I hate that she had to be “rescued” by the obnoxious Victor. I also hate the way they are portraying Abby as idiotic. I guess she will be “rescued” by Scott.
On another note, I dislike the twist of Dina stabbing Nikki. Dementia is complex and tragic, and I don’t care much for the lack of subtlety the story has suddenly taken, but I give credit to Marla Adams who is delivering her best work despite the subpar writing.
Lastly, I hate that Juliet died. Not that I particularly liked the character, but I felt that she manipulated the entire sequence of events and with her death there is no payoff. And now it looks like Cane and Lily will reunite, which is honestly the last thing that I want to see.
Cane and Victoria have been my two of my favorite characters for the past six months or so, and I find it discouraging that the integrity of both characters appears to be in jeopardy.
