nice list
Kavovit’s win was always funny since it was only one other person in that category that year

The reason for that being the case was that they had changed the eligibility age and pretty much nobody else was eligible, like Scott DeFreitas, who was one year older. Much like they are planning on doing the year after this one.

oh wow I didn’t know that
If it wasn’t for the age change do you think it would be another winner?
ReplyCopy URLJune 8, 2021 at 3:24 pm #1204292141I always thought this category was a cheat code for some actors/ actresses to win an Emmy
Tom Pelphrey was basically the lead actor of that show when he won his Emmys

IDK – but I think Scott DeFreitas would have at least been nominated. Andrew had a very strong storyline with Emily and James, killing the latter (well, as dead as anyone ever is on a soap!) (;

Tom Pelphrey was the favorite to win that year

In Sarah Michelle Gellar’s reel I’m pretty sure the Kendall character was confronting her biological father

Ah, I see. 2004 was a peculiar year (funny, I’ve been thinking about it quite a lot lately as the last time the Brood X cicadas were out in full force as they are currently, was exactly 17 years ago, in 2004!) because David Lago and Tom Pelphrey both only aired throughout a good quarter of the year (if I recall correctly, Lago exited Y&R sometime in April/May while Pelphrey debuted on GL in September, so their screen times were roughly the same). It’s easy to see why many regarded the latter as the favorite to win (his scenes particularly with Kim Zimmer were simply dynamite), but being the newbie in a group of mostly vets (Lago had already amassed an impressive four previous nominations in this category without a win), I think voters realized this was their final shot at rewarding Lago for what had been years of really excellent work.
ReplyCopy URLJune 12, 2021 at 3:24 am #1204297484^I was curious as to who the other 3 nominees were that year: Scott Clifton for GH, Michael Grazaidei for Y&R (whatever happened to him?), and Jacob Young for AMC were the other nominees, in addition to Tom Pelphrey for GL and the winner David Lago for Y&R. Jacob Young was the only one who had won before (for GH, his worst role! I didn’t like his version of Lucky at all!). I think Tom Pelphrey ought to have won. I remember that David Lago gave a strange acceptance speech!
