Bumping this up! So glad to see that you guys from before my time (here on Gold Derby, not soap watching!) gave Tuc Watkins the recognition he deserved! I wonder if his lack of Emmy nominations was because he didn’t submit his name or did the blue ribbon panels make a huge mistake by never nominating him? (;
It could be either, but more likely it has to do with the fact that rarely did the Academy remember “OLTL” when it came to voting. “OLTL” was often considered “the ugly stepsister of daytime soaps.” It had neither the promotion, attention or industry enthusiasm of other soaps. Even among ABC soaps; it was given the least attention and the smallest Emmy campaigns as ABC typically spent most of its time marketing/campaigning for “General Hospital” and “All My Children.”

Maura West and Jon Lindstrom are repeat winners from last year.
General Hospital’s Drama Series win is only it’s 2nd win in the category.

Days has yet to win in that category, and this is the one year that she deserved it, well i will cross my fingers for the actual emmys, that she somehow pulls off a nom and win in the comnbined younger performer actegory…ugh. I wonder if they’ll at least make it a fair even number of nominees still per gender, or at least 5 nominees, since there would normally be 8 between the 2 categories.

At the time Daniel Montgomery was administering the awards and he persuaded enough people to eliminate those categories that year. It was the first year I voted and I was annoyed because I felt that Chandler Massey would win. At least Chandler was nominated for Best Actor and I voted for him in Best Actor that year. Fortunately the category was reinstated the very next year!

It was cool that Chandler Massey got nominated in lead actor, and I think was probably fairly competitive to win, but it still seems like we essentially robbed him of an award he clearly would have won.

I have all the nominees and winners from the soap categories written down (in the early years there were other daytime categories; I don’t have those written down). If these do get the axe at least we will still have the information and maybe I would have to laboriously put them back up for all of us…
