I am reluctant to predict for Series, Directing and Writing without knowing what the submissions have been for each show. But in the 7 acting categories I have some very unconfident predictions! (; They are really hard to predict! I am just hoping I do better than last year (6 out of 10 correct; Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Younger Actor, Younger Actress, Directing and Writing were correct last year; Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, and Guest Performer were incorrect)…

After watching the reels, as of now, these are my current predictions:

Best Lead Actor: Peter Bergman, Y&R

Best Lead Actress: Nancy Lee Grahn, GH

Best Supporting Actor: Chandler Massey, Days

Best Supporting Actress: Marla Adams, Y&R

Best Younger Actor: Casey Moss, Days

Best Younger Actress: Chloe Lanier, GH

Best Guest Performer: Vernee Watson, GH

I switched from Maura West to Nancy Lee Grahn for Lead Actress; Nancy’s reel has persuaded me, it feels super strong and more coherent than Maura’s reel. Eileen’s reel is Emmy-worthy as well. How I wish for a 3 way tie! Also, Vernee Watson was a major switch for me after watching the reels; it is the only one that feels Emmy-worthy of the five for me. I am sticking with Peter Bergman but it could very well go to James Reynolds. It’s a gut feeling I have, which sometimes happen and sometimes don’t!

    My Predictions:

Outstanding Drama Series: Days of our Lives

Outstanding Lead Actress: Maura West, General Hospital

Outstanding Lead Actor: James Reynolds, Days of our Lives

Outstanding Supporting Actress: Mishael Morgan, Young & the Restless

Outstanding Supporting Actor: Chandler Massey, Days of our Lives

Outstanding Younger Actor: Casey Moss, Days of our Lives

Outstanding Younger Actress: Chloe Lanier, General Hospital

Oustanding Writing for a Drama Series: Days of our Lives

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series: General Hospital

    Commentary
In terms of Drama Series and Writing, I really do not see how Days can lose. Y&R might have an outside chance. Really, I see Days winning directing too, but I can’t see them sweeping, so I predicted GH, for the episode where Jason returns to Port Charles.

Maura West and James Reynolds seems like sure bets for the Lead categories.

The supporting categories are harder to call. Supporting Actress seems to be between Camryn Grimes, Mishael Morgan, and Marla Adams. Supporting Actor is between Chandler Massey and Greg Vaughan.

I feel certain Chloe Lanier and Casey Moss will win in the Younger categories. As least as certain as I can be. Because, despite the utter conviction in my predictions, I am often wrong!

I’m still puzzled by lead actress. Many times the loudest performance wins in that category which would favor West. Sometimes more subtle, nuanced, emotional work wins which would favor Grahn. Davidson and Wright have multiple shows and networks voting for them plus solid performances so one of them could win if it all comes down to a popularity contest. And I still think Miller has a shot at a surprise win thanks to a surprisingly strong reel.

My gut says Wright and Davidson will cancel each other out with typically strong reels that offer nothing new. Miller’s nomination is her prize. And that leaves Grahn winning her first lead Emmy for her raw and vulnerable work, beating West by a hair.

Drama Series:  So far DAYS because I really like their reels.  I don’t know what the other soaps are submitting.  I can single out B&B.  You can’t never tell with GH and I’m intrigued to see what Y&R submits.

Lead Actor:  James Reynolds……….Either him or Peter Bergman

Lead Actress:  Would love to see Eileen Davidson win but it’s going to be one of the GH girls.

    Supporting Actor:  Greg Vaughn

Supporting Actress:  Either Marla Adams or Camryn Grimes

    Younger Actor:  Casey Moss

Younger Actress:  Reign Edwards or Cait Fairbanks (I like both of their reels)

Guest Performer: either Vernee Watson or Ryan Ashton

Writing:  DAYS but again it depends on what GH and Y&R submits.

Directing:  GH (HOPE NOT) or Y&R

I don’t see B&B winning much or ANYTHING

I think B&B will be shut-out from all wins this year.

They truly are not competitive…their best chance at win is in Lead Actor with John McCook…but he is running 3rd there for me.

Does anyone know when we’ll find out what the shows submitted for drama, writing and directing?

Drama Series have been updated on Soapcentral EXCEPT Y&R so this is a mystery. Need to know what Y&R have submitted: http://soapcentral.com/emmys/news/2018/0410-emmy_coverage_clips_drama_series.php

Writing and Directing STILL haven’t been updated!!

As I did last year, I took all of our rankings based on the reels for the six main acting categories, put them in a spreadsheet, and averaged them all together. Based on our collective rankings, the winners in each category would be:

Younger Actor — Casey Moss (way ahead of nearest competitor Rome Flynn, himself a full point, on average, ahead of Lucas Adams and Hudson West)

Younger Actress — Chloe Lanier (pretty well ahead of Reign Edwards and Hayley Erin, who are tied by average, though I consider Edwards to be ahead since Erin has no first-place rankings)

Supporting Actor — Greg Vaughan (just barely ahead of Chandler Massey, both pretty well ahead of Anthony Montgomery)

Supporting Actress — Camryn Grimes (edging out Mishael Morgan by a bit but not a whole lot, with Marla Adams in a more distant third)

Lead Actor — James Reynolds (by the widest margin of any predicted winner, with John McCook then Peter Bergman trailing pretty far behind)

Lead Actress — Nancy Lee Grahn (slightly ahead of Maura West who is more comfortably ahead of Eileen Davidson)

But then I looked back at last year, and our collective rankings only correctly predicted two winners: Bryan Craig (the clearest favorite we had) and Steve Burton. Kate Mansi and Lexi Ainsworth were very close seconds to Anna Maria Horsford and Reign Edwards, respectively, where Gina Tognoni was third and Scott Clifton was fourth. So both younger actress and supporting actress felt like a bit of a toss-up (Kate Mansi had more first-place rankings than AMH, but also more low rankings). Gina Tognoni had the second most first-place rankings, after Laura Wright, but her reel was super divisive, getting a lot of fourth- and fifth-place rankings. I can’t really describe a voting pattern that accounts for Clifton’s win versus our opinions of his reel. He only had one first-place ranking (good call, robbalto!). So thinking about last year, by guess for acting winners this year is:

    Younger Actor — Casey Moss
    Younger Actress — Chloe Lanier
    Lead Actor — James Reynolds

These three feel solidly enough ahead of the competition that I can’t imagine anyone else winning. (Hopefully I’m not just being biased because these are the ones that happen to agree with my own personal ranking.)

    Supporting Actress — Camryn Grimes
It’s tempting to pick Morgan for the steal here, but pretty consistently ranked Grimes ahead of her, which was not the case last year in the close races that didn’t go to the frontrunner. I’m sticking with the majority here.

    Lead Actress — Maura West
My best guess. Why did Tognoni win last year? She had a reel with an unforgettable moment, and the one with the biggest acting. This year, I think that’s Maura. In comparing between this year and last year, Miller is like NLG last year, four well-acted bits that don’t necessarily play together well; Davidson is like Wright last year, strong material well performed that people don’t seem to be jumping out of their seats for; NLG is like Heather Tom last year, experienced pro and past winner doing really strong work that’s maybe being eclipsed by a bigger performance from someone else; and Wright is like Jess Walton last year, obviously a great actress in a reel that fades beside the competition. So Maura West, I guess.

    Supporting Actor — Chandler Massey
Toughest one for me to call based on everyone’s rankings. Vaughan has the highest average, and he and Massey have equal numbers of first-place rankings. These kinds of numbers were exactly when our second-ranked person won, so I’ll stick with that.

EmmyLoser, thank you for taking the time to tabulate our collective winners. I really enjoyed reading your post. Your analysis further confirms my conviction that the two most exciting and difficult-to-predict categories are Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. Greg Vaughan or Chandler Massey? Camryn Grimes or Marla Adams or Mishael Morgan? The best part is that I love them all!

It seems like every year there is one category that is a total shock. I wonder if that will be the case this year.
