I’m curious to see what our strong feelings are. For me it’s GL because it was the favorite of my grannies and so it’s a sentimental one for me.

Honestly I want all the New York-based soaps back but if I had to pick ONE it would be As the World Turns. Of course Maura would have to return to NYC and play Carly! Kathryn Hays would have to come out of retirement and play Kim, of course.

I often dream of reboots of Ryan’s Hope, The Edge of Night, The Doctors – I particularly loved those half hour soaps from the 1970’s and 1980’s!

Guiding Light and One Life To Live would probably be the easiest to get major cast members back on board for reboots.

I am concerned about the content of the proposed “Pine Valley” series – is it going to be the Santos family with Erica Kane thrown in and that’s it or will we get characters I care about, such as Brooke? Very ambivalent about it.

Sunset beach, it was a bit hit here in the UK. So much so that when it was cancelled Channel 5 offered to partly fund it.

I ended up going with Another World, which is the show I miss the most overall. I was tempted to pick Santa Barbara, but with that one I more want to turn back time and enjoy the heyday of the show that I missed the first time around. I loved Passions, but I think it ran its course. I do think a Passions reboot (the same concept but starting from scratch) could be fantastic, but I wouldn’t revive the show that was.

So my vote went to “One Life to Live” simply because I think it was the show that was in the best state when it was cancelled. My sentimental favorites would be “Guiding Light” and “As the World Turns”.

However, “Guiding Light” was unrecognizable under the disastrous leadership of Ellen Wheeler and, honestly, had to be taken off life support, “All My Children” had very few characters I still cared about, “As the World Turns” was OK but sort of running on autopilot, same with “Another World,” “Port Charles” started out great but lost me with the vampires, the first couple of years of “Passions” were campy fun, but it got too ridiculous and completely lost me when a transgender character got pregnant by his own dad or something like that (I don’t even remember), and “Sunset Beach” I never really got into (though I remember enjoying Sarah Buxton as Annie, and I’ve never looked at a turkey baster the same way again).

If I could revive “Guiding Light” as it was in the early 90s or the early Paul Rauch years… or “As the World Turns” under Douglas Marland or under the heydey of Hogan Scheffer… or “Port Charles” or “Passions” during their first years… or “All My Children” during the mid-90s…

A Sunset Beach reboot would sound intriguing (just to get the wonderful Lesley-Anne Down to guest star would be reason enough)! I liked how unique the show was, both in its storytelling and the way the show was shot (the on-location premise at Seal Beach really set it apart from all the other drama series in its day). It was kind of like the daytime precursor to the primetime juggernaut that would become The O.C., perhaps too visionary for its time and for daytime audiences to really gain an appreciation for it.

As much as I hated the cancellation of GL and ATWT and I’m still sad both are no longer on the air, at least the latter was still firing on all cylinders till the very end and the final chapter (ie., the lead-up to Jack and Carly’s beautiful wedding) was crafted in a really satisfying way. GL deserved better. We need a Peapack, NJ do-over, this time with solid direction, an improved technical and sound team and not that wobbly camerawork that made viewers seasick. If anything, I’d resurrect the show just to give it a proper farewell season. And, of course, there’d be a Bauer BBQ complete with the return of some surprise guests, like Harley and Jonathan!

My vote goes to Guiding Light.

I voted for ATWT (over GL, EON, OLTL, and AW), new generations of Hughes and Snyder characters

That was a hard choice to make but for me I had to vote for OLTL. It was really always my favorite of the soaps I watched on a regular basis, and was the one I felt least deserved to be cancelled based on the ratings it was pulling in and the creative state it was in.

I think that any reboot or revival of OLTL would HAVE to include Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser in some form. Even if it was just on a recurring or semi-recurring basis. And it would have to include Jessica and Natalie, preferably with Bree Williamson and Melissa Archer reprising their roles, but honestly I feel like Natalie could easily be recast and not many people would care. Other characters that should be included are Todd and Walker, Blair and Tea, Starr, Nora and Bo. And it would be nice to include Kevin or Joey Buchanan in some form.

Anybody else wouldn’t be super important to me, but that would be a good start.

I echo the sentiment that all NY based soaps should return, it is a part of the genre that is desperately missed by its fans and it is a sad state of affairs that there are none left.

I dreamed last night that I was directing and producing reboots of both Ryan’s Hope and One Life To Live! (: I was running back and forth between the two sets, directing Robin Strasser and Tuc Watkins on one set, and Helen Gallagher and Ilene Kristen on another! (; ha ha ha!
