Which soap opera did u try to get into but you just couldn’t?
ReplyDecember 2, 2021 at 6:07 pm #1204621755^I loved Loving! (:
I found Port Charles very difficult to get into and I wasn’t enamored of all the vampire stuff in the second half of the series.
I also have never really liked Texas, and I have tried to watch and enjoy it in its youtube videos after-life.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 2, 2021 at 7:12 pm #1204621862Interesting question. I actually never got fully into “All My Children.” I started watching in the mid- to late-90s in the middle of the Edmund/Maria love story, which I LOVED. I also enjoyed Haley and Mateo back then, and Adam, Tad, Brooke, Jackson and Erica were always favorites. However, there was still something missing; I don’t really know what. And I think objectively the 2000s were terrible years for this show, with too many revolving characters, especially in the younger set. Was there anything salvageable that decade other than the Bianca storyline (which was wonderful, and Eden Riegel and Susan Lucci were amazing)?

For a few years in the 90s (like 94-96) it was good but after that I couldn’t get into it. Claire Labine was a good writer. The three things that make GH unwatchable to me is the whole mob deal (Frank Smith, Sonny, Jason, Julian, Ava). They get away with murder on GH. The bad guys win and the good guys lose. Luke and Laura…I never understood the hype. He raped her then she fell in love with him. It’s not really the actors fault tho. Pat Falken Smith & Gloria Monty put them together. Robert Guza Jr later addressed the so called seduction and called it wat it really was …rape. And the one thing that irks my nerves is… killing children all the time. Omg but a few of them were brought back from the dead (Jake).
I’ve also never been a fan of Loving, The City, or Port Charles. They all came on the same time Y&R did so I wasn’t missing that.

While I did love Loving I did not like The City at all. I had forgotten about it.
I never watched Sunset Beach back in the day but I caught up with it on youtube and loved it!
I also had mixed feelings about Passions, come to think of it. Mostly I loved Juliet Mills, especially early on before the death of Timmy (Josh Ryan Evans).
ReplyCopy URLDecember 3, 2021 at 9:34 am #1204623170I was in an NBC family, so in addition to always watching DAYS, I watched Another World until it was off, Sunset Beach when I could catch it, and Passions for most of its run. Santa Barbara was a little before my time, but I watched some of that, too. I never really watched Generations.
The other network shows were less of a natural thing, but I did have stints at least of watching All My Children, One Life to Live, General Hospital (obviously), Port Charles, As the World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. The only one I never got into was Guiding Light. I think I missed the show’s heyday, and nothing in the late 90s or the 2000s really drew me in.

You missed the famous Reva/Josh/Annie triangle on GL? Omg it was so good especially Annie’s courtroom scenes ppl still talk about that to this day.

I never liked The City, but I can admit it was ahead of it’s time with the editing and cinematography. It felt primetime-ish
ReplyCopy URLDecember 3, 2021 at 8:59 pm #1204625294Passions. I know to this day the show still has its devoted fans, but for me all the fantasy stuff was just too much.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 4, 2021 at 2:02 am #1204625572I’ll commit a heresy: I loved every ABC soap in my lifetime EXCEPT All My Children. I never could get into it ever!
ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2021 at 5:00 pm #1204632184There are really two that I just could never completely get into: “Passions” and “Young & The Restless.” Certainly at times I watched both; but for some reason those two in particular I just never could truly enjoy. In the case of “Passions”, I just thought the entire thing was far too silly for me to take seriously; and in the case of “Y&R”, It just wasn’t “my show.” There was just something about it that just wasn’t for me. And I was a HUGE fan of the genre.
For the most part I was an ABC guy; my mother watched all the ABC shows and got me addicted to them and mostly I was very loyal to them; but I also experimented with other soaps as well, including long stints watching Another World, As The World Turns, Bold & Beautiful, Guiding Light, Days of Our Lives and Sunset Beach.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2021 at 7:53 pm #1204632604One of the things that this thread has made clear is that WHEN we started watching a particular show has a great deal to do with whether we got hooked or not on it. All My Children is a great example because if you didn’t start watching it until late in its run it’s no wonder a viewer wouldn’t get hooked on it!
ReplyCopy URLDecember 7, 2021 at 5:27 pm #1204635510I’ve respected many of the actors that Y&R has had over the years but the show’s pacing was always too slow. I was an ABC kid. One Life To Live (pre-Todd) and Loving are my all time favs. Always loved AMC and pre-Sonny era GH.
Days and Passions became later favs.
