I was wondering if you could help me with a trivia question my friend and I were trying to solve:
Which actor and actress hold the records for acting roles (regular or recurring roles count) on the most soap operas?
At this point the three names I’ve come up with are Robin Mattson, who has been on 8 soaps: Guiding Light, General Hospital, Ryan’s Hope, Santa Barbara, All My Children, As The World Turns, Bold & Beautiful and Days of Our Lives.
and Linda Dano who has been on 7 soaps, As The World Turns, One Life To Live, Another World, General Hospital, All My Children, Port Charles and Guiding Light.
and Debbi Morgan who has appeared on 6 soaps: All My Children, Generations, Port Charles, Loving, The City, Young & Restless.
Is there anybody who has been on more than 8 soaps who I haven’t thought of?October 8, 2016 at 3:30 pm #1201933366
Wow, Robin Mattson has appeared on eight soaps! That is amazing. I loved her most on Santa Barbara and on her original GH run. Regretfully, I missed her on GL and RH. I cannot think of another actor who has appeared on that many soaps.October 9, 2016 at 7:05 am #1201933451
Right now…Rick Hearst stands out for having been on all four of the network daytime soaps which are still on the air.October 9, 2016 at 7:07 am #1201933453
Q: I am having trouble recalling Robin Mattson on Days of Our Lives. When was she on?October 9, 2016 at 5:18 pm #1201933571
Q: I am having trouble recalling Robin Mattson on Days of Our Lives. When was she on?
2010-2011, she had a recurring role as Lee Michaels. According to Wikipedia this is what her story was “Lee Michaels is a trustee in the prison where Hope Brady serves time in 2010. She is a doctor who was imprisoned for illegally prescribing painkillers to her patients. She is assigned to the prison’s infirmary, where she works with Warden Jane Smith to kill inmates during routine medical procedures in order to harvest their organs. Lee is played by Robin Mattson and first appeared on October 5, 2010 to 2011.”October 10, 2016 at 8:12 am #1201933753
^^Yeah, Robin Mattson did a great job on DAYS but her character was nuts, almost like Heather Webber but slightly less loopy and with a medical degree. The organ harvesting story was pretty ridiculous, though I guess it was something kind of different. Robin Mattson’s character is the one who removed Jennifer’s heart, forcing a bonkers situation where Daniel had to perform surgery to put her heart back into her before she died. That seems terribly medically irresponsible from a storytelling perspective, to me at least.
To the original question, I certainly can’t think of anyone who tops Robin Mattson. And she could add a ninth soap if she books a stint on Y&R, though Linda Dano could potentially top that even if she managed appearances on DAYS, B&B and Y&R.October 10, 2016 at 12:25 pm #1201933867

I have a feeling Linda Dano is rather content staying in retirement. Although I do wish she would tackle at least one more long-term gig.October 10, 2016 at 4:45 pm #1201933948
I believe Nicolas Coster, best known for Santa Barbara, has been on the most for males but I can’t off the top of my head name them all. AMC, AW, ATWT, SB, The Secret Storm and Somerset to name 6 but I think there are four more – A World Apart, I think? Which others?
Dorothy Lyman has been on AMC, AW, B&B, TEON, A World Apart and several more… (I think she has been on 9 or 10, but I would need to look through my Soap Opera Encyclopedia)…October 10, 2016 at 4:58 pm #1201933953
Just looked it up for Dorothy Lyman; she has been on NINE soaps.
1. A World Apart (Julie)
2. The Edge of Night (Elly Jo)
3. One Life To Live (Sister Margaret)
4. Another World (Gwen)
5. All My Children (Opal)
6. As The World Turns (Naomi)
7. Days Of Our Lives (Countess Dorothea)
8. Generations (Rebecca)
9. The Bold and the Beautiful (Bonnie)October 10, 2016 at 5:08 pm #1201933956
Nicolas Coster has been on EIGHT soaps:
1. Young Dr. Malone (1962-63)
2. The Secret Storm (1964; 1967-69)
3. As the World Turns (John, 1966; Eduardo, 1993-95)
4. Another World (1970; 1972-76)
5. Somerset (1970-72)
6. One Life to Live (1983-84)
7. Santa Barbara (1984-93)
8. All My Children (1988-89)
(he must have left and gone back to Santa Barbara after his stint on AMC)October 10, 2016 at 5:22 pm #1201933960
Wow, I am impressed, Freeman! I would have never thought of Coster nor Lyman. I never saw Lyman on anything other than AMC.October 11, 2016 at 3:34 pm #1201934305
