I was a bit stunned as I watched the reels; two are superb, two have some really nice moments, and an actress I usually like I disliked her reel immensely.

    1. Chloe Lanier as Nelle Benson, GH (7:44)
The shortest reel is the best. Nelle confronts Carly about the past; Nelle talks to Michael about her father; Nelle has her claws out negotiating a new home for her and Michael’s baby; Nelle explains why she lied to Sharon; Nelle asks Michael to believe her – my notes are: “Strong!”, “This is emmy-worthy”, LOVED the scene at the end. Superb!

    2. Olivia Rose Keegan as Claire Brady, Days (10:19)
Shocked she is my #2. Her reel is about the sex video and the reel I saw seemed to be in reverse order? Claire has heartfelt talk with Theo; Claire is angry at the guy who conspired to put the video up with Jade; she confronts Jade; Theo apologizes to Claire and she doesn’t accept it; Claire talks to Hope about the video and asks her to delete it. I am really surprised by how good this reel is. It tells a full story. All the scenes are in her apartment living room. Quite strong!

    3. Cait Fairbanks as Tessa Porter, Y&R (9:58)
She has some nice moments but this reel belongs to Camryn Grimes as Mariah, who does the Emmy-worthy work in it. Tessa is moving out of Sharon’s home to live with Noah; second half is Mariah asking Tessa if their kiss meant anything to her. She has some nice moments, particularly at the 4:45 mark and towards the end. Nice work but not great or Emmy-worthy imo.

    4. Hayley Erin as Kiki Jerome, GH (13:33)
The longest reel and I was really disappointed – very disjointed with much that felt superfluous. Kiki dealing with Ava’s burns. I wasn’t particularly moved and I was surprised by this reel – the description sounded really promising but it’s not there on the screen; poor choices imo (and I love Hayley and am really glad she is nominated)

    5. Reign Edwards as Nicole Avant Forrester, B&B (10:42)
Now I know I will get flak for this but I really disliked her reel. “one-note”, “flat”, “Boo-hoo!” were just some of the notes I wrote down. Will Nicole sign the papers that give her sister the baby she carried? There was a sameness to all of her scenes, played at the exact same energy level, and I found it incredibly dull. I was really surprised. I know that others loved this reel but I really disliked it intensely.

I had a brain freeze, of coruse hs plays Claire! She kept saying “Ciara” throughout her reel and it stuck in my brain!

I was having a problem with my computer and had to come back and edit it in my comments about Reign Edwards’s reel afterwards. (My computer jammed on me)

I was really surprised that I only loved two of the reels: Lanier and Keegan. Not at all what I expected! I know others will disagree with me but isn’t that the fun of these boards?

Hayley Erin’s reel was good. It is evident that she has grown as an actress. However, I do not see it as a winning reel. She probably could have selected stronger scenes.

Chloe Lanier’s reel has range. She is very compelling in the explosive beginning of the reel with Carly. In her scene with Michael, she displays a calmer side of Nelle. Later, she shows Nelle’s argumentative side in her discussion with Michael, Sonny, and Carly. Although her reel is a little bit choppy, she is extremely convincing throughout.

Olivia Rose Keegan’s reel highlights the strident, dislikable nature of her character, as the well as the subpar writing prior to Carlivati’s arrival. The scenes seem to be out of chronological order. I do not see a lot of range here, and I do not see this as a winning reel.

Cait Fairbanks submitted a reel of understated performances, and it was a welcome relief to watch. The reel is good, but she is overshadowed by the magnificent Camryn Grimes.

Reign Edwards also submitted a somewhat understated reel. There is not a tremendous range, and I think she would have benefitted from more vocal variety. However, the reel plays nicely, telling a story from beginning to end, with a satisfying build in emotion.

    My Rank

    1. Chloe Lanier

    2. Cait Fairbanks

    3. Reign Edwards

    4. Hayley Erin

    5. Olivia Rose Keegan

From my perspective, Chloe Lanier is the clear winner here.

    1. Lanier
    2. Edwards
    3. Erin
    4. Keegan
    5. Fairbanks

Fairbanks does nothing in her reel and is completely overshadowed by Grimes.

Keegan overacts her way through her reel and piecing the scenes together out of order was just pointless.

Erin has one strong scene with Maurice Bernard. It’s a long reel and she’s fine throughout but considering the meaty situation (her mother’s been burned to within an inch of her life) I was underwhelmed.

Edwards is good but doesn’t show any range and is overshadowed by her onscreen sister in the middle and boyfriend at the end.

Lanier wins by a mile. She has range and acts the hell out of the first fight scene with Carly and the last fight scene with Michael. She’s compelling for the rest of the reel too and by far delivers the best performance here.

I saw all the reels heres the ranking:

5: Olivia Rose Keegan:OMG that was dreadful. It was overacted screaming with no range. The writing was terrible but dont even know how she got nominated.that was so screechy bad.

4:Reign Edwards:All she did was weap through her whole reel. The big problem is she was overshadowed by Karla Mosley. It told a story but it was all tears and very little range. I think Reign has potential.

3: Cait Fairbanks: thought she was effective and understated. My problem was it was more Camryn Grimes reel than Cait. She had nice moments not emmy winning.

2:Hayley Erin: i think she has improved alot as an actress. She used to be screechy like Keegan and god is she better. Liked her reel told a story and she was strong with Maura West. Also i felt this was her reel not others that showcased it.

1:Chloe Lanier: her reel was by far the best and huge improvement over last years dud. I think we all rated her last last year. Its a little choppy but Chloe is by far the best actress and she showed the best dynamic range. Chloe for the win

I just also wanted to add Hayley Erin has landed a lead role in a new primetime pilot. She isnt long for GH. I will say i loathed Kristen Alderson as Kiki it wasnt until Hayley i really liked Kiki.

Now that I’ve watched all the reels I’m read to make my analysis

    5. Haley Erin (Kiki, GH) I liked her scene with Maurice Bernard, but the rest of the reel wasn’t bad but it wasn’t what I expected her to put on her reel.

    4. Cait Fairbanks (Tessa, Y&R) As everyone has stated this is Camryn’s reel.

    3. Reign Edwards (Nicole, B&B) I loved the reel but she was overshadowed by Karla Mosley

    2. Chloe Lainer (Nelle, GH) This reel was superb. I loved it. She might take the gold after all.

    1. Olivia Rose Keegan (Claire, DOOL) I promise you all I did not expect this reel but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t good. This reel was good from start to finish. So what if it’s out of order. Her range was good. I didn’t hear alot of screaming (as someone else said). I loved when she grilled Ciara’s bf. Her scenes with her confronting Jade were what dreams are made of. Her scenes with Hope and Abe, and Theo were good as well. She wasn’t overshadowed by another actor. She owned this whole reel.

Chloe Lainer might win but I’m pulling for Olivia Rose Keegan. Both tapes were phenomenal. Let’s hope for a tie

Out of Ambien last night and to stop myself from walking the halls like the Canterville ghost, I actually watched the Younger Actress reels and one submission almost did the trick that Ambien always does for me.

5.) Cait Fairbanks -Y & R : Camryn Grimes,Camryn Grimes, Camryn Gimes! Yes, this is how you win an Emmy folks. Camryn Grimes is a writer’s dream, taking material and running with it. Haven’t watched soaps in years and was surprised ( and pleased ) to see Cassie back from the dead and a lesbian to boot. Grimes owned the screen like it was nobody’s business w/o showboating. Great performance, wait Cait Fairbanks was also in this reel? I didn’t notice. It was the Camryn Grimes show from start to finish.

4.) Reign Edwards – B & B- Has God ever created a more beautiful actress and has an actress ever picked a more disappointing reel? I literally did a Scooby Doo double take when Ms. Edwards appeared in her tape. Drop dead beautiful, engaging and I think, possibly talented. I really couldn’t tell because she was pretty much a supporting player in her own submission. The one thing I did learn from her reel is that she has to be the most generous actress in daytime because she handed over her big moments to her co-stars. They had the meaty monologues and the big emotions that win awards.

3.) TIE – TWO WAY TIE between Olivia Rose Keegan -DOOL & Hayley Erin-GH. Keegan pops off the screen at first – a face that was born for the camera. Her first couple of minutes were great then I found myself wondering did I take my Ambien? I’m confused. What’s going on in her tape? Some one had sex, it was filmed, I’m bored, I must be Ambien sleep walking because I’m lost w/ her reel. Like Pam Ewing maybe I dreamt the entire submission. As for Erin, like Keegan started off nicely enough and I thought she came into her own in the scene w/ Sonny but then I went into an Ambien blackout-snoozefest.

    2.) NO ONE

1.) Chloe Lanier -GH. Thank goodness I woke up in time to catch Lanier’s ass kicking reel. For my taste, the hallmark of a good submission is make sure you submit scenes where you drive the hell out of the material and play second fiddle to no one. That’s exactly what she did. Lanier goes full on badass. Strength and vulnerability all in one submission. In a fair and equitable world the Emmy would be hers.

Camryn Grimes portrays Mariah, not a back from the dead Cassie but yes she was brilliant in Cait’s reel and if it wasn’t for Marla Adams I would be rooting for her to win a 2nd Emmy 18 years after her first. It was really interesting hearing from someone who doesn’t watch the shows and has a fresh eye; I would hope that the panelists are familiar enough with soaps to consider other things beyond their reels but I don’t know if they do or not.

does anybody know if Keegan’s reel is backwards on purpose?

I will be really surprised if Chloe Lanier doesn’t win, by far the best of the five.

Thanks for the correction about Mariah/Cassie. When ABC axed OLTL & AMC my soap habits came to an abrupt end. Camryn Grimes impressed the hell out of me when she first showed up on Y&R in the late ’90s as a child actor extraordinare. Grimes has grown into a terrific young actress. Your comment made me look at the entire list of nominees in all categories. I was thrilled to see Camryn Grimes nominated for an Emmy. I can’t imagine anyone in her category with a submission strong enough to topple what I just watched. You say that Marla Adams’ ( Deena if I remember correctly ) work can. Wow. Now I’m really interested in watching the Supporting Actress reels. Looks like a really competitive race.

    1. Reign Edwards

    2. Haley Erin

    3. Olivia Rose Keegan

    4. Chloe Lanier

    5. Cait Fairbanks

i don’t think any of these reels were necessarily slam dunks, but for me, it’s between Haley and Reign. I think what set theirs apart is that they both made me feel something. I was genuinely moved by both and I can’t really say that about the others. Olivia was a pleasant surprise performance wise, but the order of scenes was definitely confusing. I agree with everyone about Cait, that Camryn stole the show. As for Chloe, I didn’t see what others saw. I actually thought she was really strong in that last scene with Michael but I didn’t really care for her in the rest of it.

Berlin, completely agree with you for slightly different reasons.  The only show I watched this year was DOOL, but I am familiar with the other shows.

    1. Chloe Lanier did have a great reel with lots of range.  Good actress.

    2. Haley Erin/Olivia Rose Keegan: Tie.  I thought Haley was a very natural actress and very believable in her scenes.  Especially the scenes where, as a hospital worker ,she understands the DNR implications but it’s her mom and she also very angry with her.  Olivia was really great.  So much better than she’s been recently.  I’d forgotten that she was the best of the younger DOOL cast during this period of time.  I think it really hurts her that the scenes are out of order on her tape.

    4. Reign Edwards  Watched this one first and was trying to find what everyone raves about.  She was good, but maybe she picked the wrong tape.  No fire there.

    5.  Cait Fairbanks. If she wins it will be because people think she’s Camryn Grimes.  What a terrible tape choice.  Completely overshadowed.
