May 22, 2021 at 9:04 am #1204266126My personal top 5 favorite Best Actress in a Daytime Drama Series Emmy wins are:
1. Maura West for As The World Turns (2006)
2. Maura West for As The World Turns (2009)
3. Robin Strasser for One Life To Live (1982)
4. Marcy Walker for Santa Barbara (1989)
5. Hillary B Smith for One Life To Live (1994)Most years I would have chosen a different winner than the one that won, but those were 5 of the years where I felt they got it right!
ReplyCopy URLMay 22, 2021 at 9:53 am #1204266226I thought 1998 was a particularly amazing year, with Cynthia Watros, Kim Zimmer and Eileen Davidson very strong contenders. I really wanted a tie between ED and CW, especially since they were both leaving their shows. I was very happy that Cynthia won, and happy that Eileen got her well-deserved Emmy in 2013.
And I’m a broken record on this but I really can’t not mention the two biggest travesties in this category in my opinion. (1) The fact that Beverlee McKinsey was never nominated for playing Alexandra Spaulding on “Guiding Light,” and (2) the fact that Melody Thomas Scott has only been nominated once for 25+ years of playing Nikki on “The Young and the Restless.”

Susan Flannery 2000
Erika Slezak 1996
Eileen Davidson 2014
Susan Lucci 1999- not because of the reel, but just the moment of her finally winning
May 23, 2021 at 9:16 am #1204267435Other years where I agreed with the winner were 1974 (Liz Hubbard), 1976 (Helen Gallagher), 1983 (Dorothy Lyman), and 2013 (Eileen Davidson) – while most of the other winners were fine I just would have chosen someone else to win the year that they won. I was very disappointed that Elizabeth Hubbard never won for her work as Lucinda on As The World Turns despite being nominated 8 times including 7 times in a row for the role; and Kassie DePaiva still not having an Emmy is also really crazy to me! I also really wanted Alison Sweeney to win the year she was nominated – these last two could be rectified this year if they are nominated on Tuesday!

ReplyCopy URLMay 23, 2021 at 4:59 pm #1204268022Because some of my favorite Daytime Emmy wins happened in this category in fairly recent times, I tried to limit my picks to just this past decade (I know, I know… I’m cheating a bit!)
* Eileen Davidson, DAYS (2013)
* Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, B&B (2018)
* Heather Tom, B&B (2019)
* Gina Tognoni, Y&R (2016)
* Eileen Davidson, Y&R (2017)

Hilary B. Smith
Judith Light
Susan Flannery (2000)
Susan Lucci (That was a hell of a reel)
