I love “Atonement” and it would have been my pick but I recognize the brilliance of other nominees. “Juno” is good but clearly the weakest.

Atonement was such a flashy directorial achievement that I can’t believe it was snubbed for director.

Atonement is a masterpiece even 15 years later. It’s a cult classic now and should have won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography (incredible) and Best Music Score (unforgettable).

Keira And James deserved a Best Actor and Actress nominations as well.

It’s really one of the best tragdy/love story ever put on film.

This is actually a really good year (and certainly a much better one than the mess that ensued the following year)! Granted I haven’t seen Michael Clayton but I like all four of the other Best Picture nominees this year.

Still need to see a couple of things including the likes of Inland Empire, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Into the Wild.

    My personal lineup:

    Best Picture

    Atonement
    Control
    The Darjeeling Limited
    Juno
    No Country for Old Men
    Ratatouille
    There Will Be Blood
    Zodiac

    Best Director

    – Paul Thomas Anderson, There Will Be Blood
    – Wes Anderson, The Darjeeling Limited
    – The Coen Brothers, No Country for Old Men
    – Anton Corbijn, Control
    – David Fincher, Zodiac

    Best Actor

    – Adrien Brody, The Darjeeling Limited
    – Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
    – James McAvoy, Atonement
    – Sam Riley, Control
    – Owen Wilson, The Darjeeling Limited

    Best Actress

    – Amy Adams, Enchanted
    – Julie Christie, Away From Her
Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose
    – Nicole Kidman, Margot at the Wedding
    – Keira Knightley, Atonement

    Best S. Actor

Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
    – Josh Brolin, No Country for Old Men
    – Paddy Considine, Hot Fuzz
    – Paul Dano, There Will Be Blood
    – Tommy Lee Jones, No Country for Old Men

    Best S. Actress

    – Cate Blanchett, I’m Not There
    – Jennifer Garner, Juno
    – Kelly Macdonald, No Country for Old Men
    – Samantha Morton, Control
    – Saoirse Ronan, Atonement

    Best Adapted Screenplay

    – Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood
    – Joel Coen and Ethan Coen for No Country for Old Men
    – Matt Greenhalgh for Control
    – Christopher Hampton for Atonement
    James Vanderbilt for Zodiac

    Best Original Screenplay

    – Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman for The Darjeeling Limited
    – Brad Bird for Ratatouille
    – Diablo Cody for Juno
    – Todd Haynes and Owen Moverman for I’m Not There
    – Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright for Hot Fuzz
