This is hard. I’m going to be boring and say that I love them all equally. They all give immaculate performances and the film wouldn’t work without each of their contributions. I will say that Smit-McPhee has the most interesting character to me and that he does so much with this role.

Smit-McPhee is the best, there’s so much layers to notice even on my rewatch, it’s such a nuanced performance. I loved Cumberbatch as well, he may be close. However, I’m not as high on Dunst as majority of this site, I still like her performance but I don’t think she’s in the same level as the other two.

I thought it was Cumberbatch for me at first but ultimately it was Dunst’s performance that haunted me a for a long time.
