I understand that people don’t like the film and the character, and that can factor into their perception. I can also see how some people can feel it’s overrated because it’s so bombastic and showy. It’s a Travis Bickle/Rupert Pupkin rip-off.
And plus he already did better this alienated outsider type of role in films such as The Master and You Were Never Really Here.

because they think the movie took nominations away from Little Women.

It isn´t a rip off, Travis is a completly different character. He did not better in those films, he was equally amazing in Joker too.
