Guess the Movie Game

Hi all! I used to play this game on the IMDb forums years ago and thought will play it on here.

The OP will think of a movie. The others will post a movie title and the OP will post the similarity between the two movies e.g. same cast/crew member, month/year/decade of release, same genres, locations, etc. The info must be something that is found online.

As a total, everyone will have 20 guesses. If no one managed to post the title that the OP thought of by then, the OP will reveal the title.

To make it more fun, the poster who guess the correct movie will also get points and be put in the Hall of Fame. They will keep collecting points and be updated in the next post.

If a poster get it on the 1st guess, they get 20 points. If a poster gets it on the 20th guess, they get 1 point. If no one gets it, the OP will get 10 points. A poster can have another guess either after 2 posters have posted theirs or when 6 hour have passed before their previous guess.

The person who guesses it correctly have the option to either start a new one or pass it up to another person.

The similarities will be updated on subsequent posts and the title will be updated to the next round once someone go it.

IMDb Advanced Title Search is very useful in narrowing down the movies.

Okay maybe I will give an example of how it works.

E.g. I am thinking of “No Country For Old Men”.

And someone guesses “Juno.”

I will update my post with

#1: “Juno” – Oscar-winning movie

Then if somebody guesses “Skyfall”.

I will update my post again the 2nd guess.

#2: Skyfall – “Have a common cast member”.

So this will keep going on until somebody eventually guesses the correct movie or 20 guesses have been posted.

I might do the first 3 posts maybe and then once by #4, the winner of #3 can start it or somebody else who wanna do it so that you all have an idea.

Yup, I already thought of a movie when I created this. hehe.

Anyway, have updated the first post with the similarities. So remember, you can either make a new guess after 2 other posters have posted or 6 hours after your guess. Whichever first.

Use the hints to narrow down your guesses. And using IMDb is helpful.

#1: The Patriot – Both have “Drama” genre listed on IMDb.
#2: Saving Private Ryan – Both are Oscar-winning movies.
#3: Green Book – Both have an IMDb rating of more than 8.0.
#4: Inception – Both are more than 2 hours in length.
#5: Gone with the Wind – Both officially opened in the USA on January.
