So I did a bit of research and found that no one has started a thread on this topic yet. Now that I’ve seen every single Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor from the 1940s, here’s how I rank them:

    1. Harold Russell-The Best Years of Our Lives
    2. Donald Crisp-How Green Was My Valley
    3. Charles Coburn-The More the Merrier
    4. James Dunn-A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
    5. Van Heflin-Johnny Eager
    6. Barry Fitzgerald-Going My Away
    7. Edmund Gwenn-Miracle on 34th Street
    8. Walter Huston-The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
    9. Walter Brennan-The Westerner
    10. Dean Jagger-Twelve O’Clock High

So what’s your ranking? Even if you haven’t seen all ten of these winners, feel free to rank the ones you have actually seen.
