Felt the need to separate them in different tiers, as there’s some good movies here that deserve some recognition, as well as some of the worst the century has given us thus far. Last six are real stinkers!

I’ll join wolfali in adding my personal winners in parenthesis.

    Million Dollar Baby (Birth)
    The Hurt Locker (Cafe Noir)

    Moonlight (The Dreamed Path)
    Parasite (Alita: Battle Angel)
12 Years a Slave (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya)
No Country For Old Men (Afternoon)

The Departed (These Encounters of Theirs)
The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King (The Story of Marie and Julien)
Gladiator (Teenage Hooker Became Killing Machine)
    Chicago (Femme Fatale)
    Green Book (Transit)
    Spotlight (The Assassin)

    Slumdog Millionaire (24 City)
The Shape of Water (Song to Song)
Everything Everywhere All At Once (The Novelist’s Film)
    The King’s Speech (Film Socialisme)
    Birdman (Goodbye to Language)
    Nomadland (Days)

Not seen, don’t care to: A Beautiful Mind, Crash, Argo, The Artist, Coda.
Should have been instead: H Story, Star Wars: Episode III, Sucker Punch, Resident Evil: Retribution, Memoria.

My ranking, rating each one according to my opinion obviously. Like Wolfali, I decided to put my favorites from the respective year, but I don’t necessarily think they are better than the winners or that they deserved to have won, just the films from that year that most connected with me.

Question: Are we ranking them simply by the quality of the movie without regard to its Best Picture win, as if they had all come out in the same year and we were doing a preferential ballot, or are we ranking them by how much they deserved their win?

Once there was only Dark. If you ask me, the Light's winning.
