Inspired by the thread recasting about Oscar winning roles, if you could recast a 2022 nominated role with a non-nominated  actor, who would you choose?

I was literally just thinking about this EXACT fan-cast the other day, you’ve read my mind! I would have loved (and honestly preferred) to see her play Anita.

Argh Sir Shaw you took some of the ones that first came to mind for me haha!

I noticed the prompt asked for non-nominated actors so I’ve abstained in certain cases where I can’t really think of another non-nominated actor who hasn’t already been mentioned prior in the thread.

    David Tennant as Phil Burbank
    Ben Whishaw as Jonathan Larson
    Colman Domingo as Richard Williams

    Lesley Sharp as Leda
    Kristen Wiig as Lucille Ball
Kate McKinnon as Tammy Faye Bakker
Oona Chaplin as Janis Martinez Moreno

    Supporting Actor

    Joshua Jackson as George Burbank
    Ian McElhinney aas Pa
    CJ Jones as Frank Rossi
    Fionn Whitehead as Peter Gordon

    Supporting Actress

Sharlene Whyte as Oracene Brandy Williams
    Niamh Algar as Young Leda
    Vanessa Redgrave as Ma
    Ruth Wilson as Rose Gordon

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

Do we think Dano and Moss would have been nominated for TPOTD had they not required recasting?

I don’t want to pull any actor/actress down by saying “he/she couldn’t have done that role” or “imagine thinking that he/she would have been better than her/him” but I genuinely believe that there are certain roles that cannot be done better by anyone other than that actor/actress.

Just like neither Blanchett or Winslet could have pulled Leda (or Queen Anne or Anne in The Father) off better than Colman, similarly neither Blanchett nor Colman could have pulled off Clementine or Mare or Rose better than Winslet, just like neither Winslet nor Colman could have pulled off Jasmine or Carol or Elizabeth I better than Blanchett.

I think Moss would. Dano however I don’t know. I think part of the appeal in Plemons’ performance was how strong the chemistry he had with Cumberbatch and especially Dunst was and whilst Dano is an excellent actor and I do think he would have worked well alongside Cumberbatch, I don’t know whether the chemistry between him and Moss would have been as strong as it was with Dunst and Plemons.

Really sad. I don’t think there’s any need to pull an actress down. You really proved my point, didn’t you?

I think that melvinezq was just responding to the absurdity of kenny’s original comment of “someone better,” not pulling down another actress. While kenny explicitly stated that Winslet and blanchett were better actresses, melvinezq just said that it’s funny to think Winslet wouldve been better, so I dont think there was the need for condescension.

Once there was only Dark. If you ask me, the Light's winning.

I mean all three actresses can exist and get great roles simultaneously. Kenny was wrong to use the word “better actress” when all three of Colman, Blanchett and Winslet are equally good actresses, no one is better than the other. But instead of calling that out, if Melvinezq highlights it for just one actress while saying it’s funny to think she would be better than her (which explicitly hints that the other two are better than one), it does give the wrong impression. I mean there’s absolutely no need to pull anyone down, directly or indirectly.

P.S.: I might have misunderstood the idea behind Melvinezq’s comment and if that is so, I apologise to Melvinezq. If not, then I stand by whatever I’ve said.

Like Elena Ferrante, I think it would have been interesting to see Maggie Gyllenhaal play “older” Leda. Also, I think it might have been interesting to see Tilda and Honor Swinton play Leda and young Leda.

Lucille Ball- I would like to have seen Julia Louis-Dreyfus give it a try; she seldom does that kind of dramatic role but I think she could have pulled it off.

    Tammy Faye Bakker- Toni Collette
