What SHOULD have won WRITING FOR A COMEDY SERIES in 2004?
Did “Arrested Development” deservedly win? Should have “Frasier” or “Sex…” taken a final trophy? Or Emmys underdog “Scrubs” should’ve been crowded the winner here?

July 27, 2021 at 2:25 pm #1204366391I love the Scrubs episode but love the Arrested Development semi-sweep for season 1 even more. I just wish Jessica Walter or Will Arnett had won for the show at some point.

My Screw Up and Goodnight Seattle would have been ok

I always thought it was odd AD never got a lot of love in the acting categories
ReplyCopy URLJuly 30, 2021 at 3:48 pm #1204372678It’s funny because while Arrested Development is one of my fave TV comedy series’ ever (the original that is…), the Frasier finale and Scrubs’ My Screw Up are two of my fave TV comedy episodes ever. Frasier definitely lost pace in the last few seasons but I did feel season 11 had a slight bounce back and most importantly, Goodnight Seattle did feel like a special finale all-in-all.
Ultimately I was happy with Arrested Development winning because AD’s s1 writing felt like a game changer to TV comedy format, but I also would have been delighted with that Fraiser episode or that Scrubs episode winning it as-well.

I agree with this. Their strongest episodes, writing wise, were “The Post-It Never Sticks Twice” and “A Woman’s Right to Shoes”.

I thought Pier Pressure was the best written episode for the first season
