    1. Blue Jasmine – Unquestionably one of the greatest performances in the history of cinema.

    2. Notes on a Scandal – Fantastic interpretation of a compelling and somewhat unsympathetic character. She plays Sheba in both the way Barbara sees her and the way she actually is as a character, sometimes blurring the lines between the two but never leaning towards a disorientating characterisation.

    3. Carol – In any other actors’ hands this could have been a very cold performance but Blanchett oozes an element of seduction and charisma that makes you wishing for her character to come on-screen when she’s not present.

    4. I’m Not There – She played an element of Bob Dylan’s persona phenomenally!

    5. Elizabeth – The movie that made a film star. Elizabeth I is quite a loathsome historical character but it’s hard to take your eyes off Blanchett in this one with the compassion she brings to the character. Pretty much the reason the film is talked about today.

    6. Mrs. America – At the end of this show I did not sympathise at all with Phyllis Schlafly or any of her actions or choices (thank god!) but at the end of the day I found myself understanding her better as a character. And I think that’s an exemplary way to depict a character so cruel without glorifying them or placing them in hagiography on screen.

    7. Elizabeth : The Golden Age – This film was absolutely crap (and gets points further deducted from it due to Laurence Fox being in it) but I liked how she wasn’t afraid to show the growth the character faced by turning everything about her upside down on the audience’s face. That “I too can command an army” scene was stunning work from her.

    8. The Aviator – It would have been great to see her win her first Oscar for something else but it was nice seeing a biopic performance win that didn’t feel like an impression.

    9. Stateless – I laughed at a campy dancing cult leader! Job done.

Not sure what number 10 would be for me. Need to see Nightmare Alley and find somewhere to see Babel but these are 9 excellent performances.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

    1. Carol (2015) – I know this a very unpopular opinion but I just have to go with my heart. This was just beautiful in so many ways, top 3 best performances of the last decade in my opinion. 10/10
    2. Blue Jasmine (2013) – Don’t even need to explain this, just legendary. 9.7/10
    3. Elizabeth (1998) – The role that let the world know how great of an actress Blanchett is. 8.9/10
    4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) – I don’t know how people feel about this but I just remember watching it for the first time and being amazed by her performance, it just felt actually magical to me and it still holds up to this day. 8.4/10
    5. The Aviator (2004) – I love it, she was very solid and interesting to watch and the movie was very fun. 8.1/10
    6. I’m Not There (2006) – I didn’t like this movie all that much but her performance was really fun and electrifying. 7.6/10
    7. Babel (2007) – She was GREAT in this, very underestimated one. 7.4/10
    8. Nightmare Alley (2021) – I’m a big Del Toro fan but I was quite disappointed by this film. The crafts were all great but I just imagined it would be so much more, not even better than the original. Blanchett was the best part about it tho. 6.7/10
    9. Where’d you go, Bernadette? (2019) – A little odd one but I appreciate it’s quirkiness. 6.3/10
    10.  Notes On A Scandal (2006) – The performance was good but it feels forgettable to me, just like the movie itself. 6/10

    Little Fish

Love this pick! It’s really underrated work from Blanchett. She is so natural in that movie.
