I’ve been watching Wentworth on Netflix for several years and the show has received high marks and rave reviews, won many awards in Australia. Why is this show never a contender during award season, such as the Golden Globes and the Emmys?  It has a large following in the US.

Really curious as to why I never see this show nominated nor mentioned by any Gold Derby critics?

It’s not American so it can’t be eligible for Emmy consideration.

I’ve only ever seen one episode of Wentworth and it was terrible.

I’m a big fan of the original series it was based on called Prisoner (in Australia) and Cell Bock H (I think) in some other countries. It was groundbreaking and featured great wall to wall casting and acting.

I’ve never had any interest in seeing the remake Wentworth but a friend of mine insisted that my partner and I watch an episode. I’m glad he did because I was curious and we were both appalled at what we saw. All the grittiness and hard edge of the original was gone in Wentworth which was glossy and stupid. Just horrible stuff. Anyone interested in Wentworth should skip it and seek out the original show.
