I didn’t watch but my favourite takeaways are:

    Black Panther rules
    Emily Blunt serves
    Glenn Close becomes a lock
Rami Malek keeps the Best Actor race wide open
Patricia Arquette keeps riding a well deserved momentum

Do you think the controversial Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland will be an Oscar contender for Best Documentary? Why/why not?

I don’t think it will be a contender for Documentary. Too controversial and Michael Jackson it too beloved by the industry even all these years later. R. Kelly is one thing, there was a tape even with him, but with Jackson having died many people just don’t want to think about him in that light. Of course it would get a big applause at liberal woke Sundance, but show that to your randomly selected group of Oscar voters from any voting branch, I guarantee you the response would be a lot more mixed.

Right now, what appears to be the most unpredictable Oscar category?

All the short film categories. I have absolutely no clue who’s the front runner in any of them.

VFX and both sounds. Could see anyone (except Roma ironically) winning those.

Mmmh, for istance, Best Production Design is a category I find very open.

We so often see very violent movies/tv series where violence is merely used to create situations of misery, to convey a macabre thrill or pleasure, or it is banalized as a comical tool. Name a film and/or a tv series where there’s an intelligent and insightful use of violence and explain why.

Best Adapted Screenplay.Maybe it will go to Beale Street but this is where Spike Lee or Bradley Cooper can be awarded.
