The sombre and sad expressions on everybody’s face here in Cape Town is testiment to what an absolute hero and icon Madiba was to this country, RSA.
You are finally home Tata. And like our Reverend Titu said this morning: The sun will rise again tomorrow , and the next day. It might not be as bright as today, but we will carry on. It’s what Madiba would’ve wanted.December 5, 2013 at 10:06 pm #452364

Devastating news. This is like a gut punch. Mandela’s legacy is staggering and will never be forgotten. We’ve lost one of the world’s few remaining icons. “Now he belongs to the ages.” RIP Nelson Mandela.December 6, 2013 at 1:34 pm #452368
As a South African, this news hit home spectacularly hard. His death was announced just past midnight here, and as the country was winding down to sleep, I was glued to the television, watching Christiane Amanpour and Wolf Blitzer discuss the life of this great man.
He truly was an amazing man, and he deserves every bit of praise he has been given, now and in the past. I speak on behalf of the whole of South Africa when I say we so immensely appreciate the condolences and thoughts of the entire world. He was a global icon, and through all of the thoughts from around the world, we are ensuring his legacy lives on forever.
In South Africa, we have a Zulu term that has been used by people of all races here over the last day, so I will say it here:
Hamba Kahle, Tata
(Go well, father)
R.I.P. Nelson Rolihlahla “Madiba” Mandela (1918 – forever in our hearts)
p.s. I am intrigued – are there any fellow South Africans on this forum?
