It’s been a long time since we’ve had a thread asking you to tattle some interesting things about yourselves — like your name (if you wish to share), age, gender, location, occupation, shoe size, fave food, sexual orientation, whatever else you wanna toss in ….
I’ll start. I’m your landlord here. I am America’s only expert on all awards, having written books on Oscars, Emmys and Grammys for Variety. For a spell I was the awards blogger for the LA Times — and I had a side career as a senior editor of In Touch Weekly, which I helped to launch back in 2002. I stayed with In Touch all the way up until 2010 while I simultaneously worked for the Times. (I was often on TV as a commentor on pop culture/celeb topics as a result of my affiliation with the mag. Prior to that I was often on TV as an awards pundit — for more than a decade I did those red-carpet shows with Joan and Melissa Rivers, for example — OY, the stories I can tell!)
I launched Gold Derby in 2000. LA Times took it over in 2005, folded it into a blog that I ran while these message boards were moved over to their web servers as part of TheEnvelope. I missed having Gold Derby to myself and I had ambitious dreams for it, so I yanked the site back from the Times and relaunched it in Nov. 2010. I continued to blog for the Times up until last September, but then chose to devote myself full time to making this site go so I said bye-bye to them. We remain great chums — as you can see the LA Times’ Elena Howe contributes to our roundup of expert prognosticators.
I live in three places: Los Angeles (where I have a dumpy apartment in old Hollywood area), New York City (I own a spectacular co-op in a high rise with OMG views of the greatest city in the world) and Bushkill, Pennsylvania (where I own a cozy cabin on a mountaintop near a lake).
Favorite food: When I die I will discover that Heaven is an endless mountain of vanilla bean ice cream.
Age: I am older than Stephen Colbert and younger than John Travolta. In short, I’m old enough to be your daddy — and here at GD, i guess I amJuly 16, 2012 at 11:35 am #441955
Age: I’ll be 31 in September (Oy Vey I’m getting old!)
Location: Rhode Island, USA
Occupation: Nothing exciting, just a supermarket check-out boy.
Education: I have a very exciting (and useless) B.A. in TV Production which clearly was a mistake because I’m working at a supermarket and have no way of getting into the TV industry. My goal would be to become a published author. I’d love to write a memoir about my life as well as to write a novel that becomes a best-seller and is made into a movie starring Sally Field and Viola Davis and wins me an Oscar for Screenwriting.
Orientation: Clearly you must know by know that I’m gay, gay gay!
Fave Food: I love seafood. Lobster, Shrimp, scallop, clams! Those are my favorites. But I’ll eat pretty much anything. The only foods I hate are Spinach, Mustard and Olives.
Fave Drink: I LOVE Tequlia… Jose Cuervo Silver is my favorite. I also like light beer, Bud Light is my ultimate.
Fave TV Series: Of all-time my favorite TV series is the beloved, late soap opera “One Life To Live”. It just meant so much to me. Lately I’m obsessed with GLEE, The Good Wife and Parks & Recreation.
Fave Movie: I have an affinity for girly movies, and as such my three favorite movies ever are Heathers, Clueless and Beaches. Sophisticated I’m not. But I’m happy with who I am.
Fave Music Artist: That’s tough but I LOVE Old-school 90’s Mariah and also love Christina Aguilera. But I love some classic stuff too, My Diva”s Bette, Babs, Cher and Celine. George Michael is also an influence of mine.
–I’ve survived the special education system after enduring my share of igonorance, hatred and prejudice.
—I was the first student in 13 years to be successfully mainstreamed in my school, and was sort of a trendsetter, because shortly thereafter most of the kids in the self-contained class became mainstreamed to some degree.
—–Was forced out of the closet in college, against my wishes, but am better off for it.
——I consider myself a semi-expert on Daytime Emmy’s, especially as it relates to my beloved ABC daytime soaps, AMC, OLTL (rest in peace!) and GH.July 17, 2012 at 9:56 am #441956
I’m college student majoring in film study, 21 y/o and I’m so horny all the time that I can’t wear underwear – it slows me down …July 17, 2012 at 3:32 pm #441957This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.July 18, 2012 at 5:34 am #441958
Age: Just turned 22 in July!
Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Occupation: Currently working at IKEA to raise money to travel to Venice Beach.
Education: I have a B.A. in English and Communication Studies, I was accepted into five M.A. programs for Rhetoric & Composition and I was planning on attending a program in Canada but I am thinking of taking a few months off, going to find myself, and then pursue my MFA in poetry.
Fave Food: I love Chinese food. But I only treat myself to it every once and awhile because it’s hard to run six miles a day when you have all those chemicals in your system!
Fave Drink: Whiskey Sour.
Fave TV Series: “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, but a show that is currently airing would be “The Good Wife”.
Fave Movie: Ah, this is a hard one but it probably has to be “Girl, Interrupted”.
Fave Music Artist: Ack. I’m really bad at making definitive choices. But it would probably have to be Hole.July 18, 2012 at 12:56 pm #441959
Location: Manhattan, New York
Education: Incoming Senior at High School. Just got the letter a few days ago that I’ve been accepted into Cornell early!
Fave Food: I once had an addiction to Maine Lobsters. Had to go to Rehab and everything to break me from my habit. They are just so good.
Fave TV Show: I’m still very young, so I haven’t seen many classic TV Shows yet. But, from the ones I’ve seen, it has to be a tie between Breaking Bad and Lost.
Fave Movie: The Godfather. Or Toy Story 3. Can’t pick.
Fave Music Artist: The Beatles.
