It will be a black ingenue, or Lupita or Cynthia Erivo, Viola ain’t getting two Oscars lol.

I don’t know what you beef is with Viola but she has clout with her fellow actors.

2017-2018, Allison Janey’s year. Melissa was highly predicted to get nominated right at the beginning, but she ended up like Alfre Woodard for Clemency. You should see it! What a fucking powerhouse, she eats you and spits you out.

I remember Leo was highly predicted at the beginning, but I wouldn’t say Woodard was at all. As more contender’s chances died, she started to go up, but she was always seen as an outside shot.

Woodard had the misfortune of her distributor dumping her movie at the ass end of the year.

They had also Parasite. At first it was incomprehensible for me, but now I fully support them for dropping Alfre, and it payed off.

Ridiculous to think any resources given to Clemency would have prevented Parasite from being popular. None of the actors in Parasite had a fighting chance at a nomination but Woodard definitely could have been a thing with an earlier release date.

Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are hot commodities right now. Won’t be surprised if they get 7 or 8 noms in the next 20 years. Everybody else, I don’t know. I don’t think so?

I feel like this verges on fetishizing them, or saying they’re “trendy”.

Viola Davis will eventually win a second, hopefully in lead.
I could see Anne Hathaway getting an extremely baity role and winning. If I remember correctly she was offered to play Judy Garland before.
The rest is over. Maybe Patricia Arquette could surprise like she did at the Emmys.

A trendy actress wouldn’t get 7 or 8 nominations like that member is expecting. He obviously meant that they are established actresses already.

Too bad we won’t be in this world witnessing Viola Davis NOT winning a 2nd Oscar.

I’m not even a big Davis fan (I think she’s a wonderful actress, but I also think she comes across as very smug and too into herself), but you got a real problem when it comes to Viola. Seriously, calm down.

I was objecting to the choice of using the term “hot commodity” to describe two actresses who are black. Realize what people are saying before you post, and hop off my ****!!!!!! Lmao

Ranked from most to least likely:

    Viola Davis
(she’ll absolutely be happening again, everyone who’s saying she won’t is delusional)

    Octavia Spencer
(like someone said before, she’ll keep collecting those coattail nods until it just seems natural that she get another win)

    Laura Dern
(she’s awesome, everyone loves her, if anyone would win two years in a row it would honestly be her, if she’s the most acclaimed in the category I don’t see really anything in her way)

    Anne Hathaway
(she’s got the chops, it’ll take her a while to get back into strong roles but I think she’ll have a mini Renaissance in a few years where she gets her public respect back and she’ll snag a few nominations, not sure if she’ll win but I could see her getting something in a couple decades)

    Lupita Nyong’o
(it doesn’t bode well that it took her nine years to get another performance into the conversation, but I think that’s more her not getting the right roles rather than a lacking performance, so if she chooses the right role she could totally collect another)

    Alicia Vikander
(who compared her to Hilary Swank? that felt right)

    Regina King
(film doesn’t really seem to be her focus, but she’s funny in how she won’t always be the obvious nominee, but if she does do an acclaimed movie again and is nominated, you can almost be certain she’s got that win in the BAG)

    Allison Janney
(meh, I could see it I guess but she’s such an ensemble player that I’m not sure she’ll really stand out that much again, and even her performance in I Tonya wasn’t undeniable, felt like they just gave it to her because they wanted Allison Janney to have an Oscar, she’s so liked and respected in the industry though that if she does deliver, it’ll happen)

    Melissa Leo
(I don’t see her ever really becoming a thing again, she’s very talented but she just doesn’t seem to be doing the projects that will get her attention, I could see her being nominated once or twice more but unless she is absolutely undeniable I see the Academy preferring to give it to a first-time winner over her)

    Patricia Arquette
(can’t even explain why but I just don’t see her really happening in a big contender again)
