Lots of multiple nominees from a movie in every category. And we won’t even see half of the winners on the telecast tonight. (Margin of error: ZERO percent).

Drama and drama actor were won by The Greateat Showman (Zac Efron). The upset of the night so far; Chris Hemsworth beating prohibitive favorite Chadwick Boseman for Thor: Ragnarok. Love, Simon took Comedy Movie.

Here’s what happens when you don’t have hardly any film awards on your awards telecast. You drop to the lowest ratings the TCA’s have ever had:

    https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/teen-choice-awards-2018-ratings-low-1202903111/

0.3 rating, 1.01m viewers in the demo; down 41% from 0.5/1.7m who tuned in last year.

They wanted to award both, especially Black Panther.

Honest question: Do you think studios and networks invest in some of those “awards specialists/advisors/whisperers”, as it is common for the Emmys or Oscars, to win this kind of awards, even if they are voted by the audience? Or do they just wing it and leave it to the stars and their social media?

0.3 rating, 1.01m viewers in the demo; down 41% from 0.5/1.7m who tuned in last year.

Question: how many of the nominated films’ stars were going to be there, which almost certainly plays a part in deciding what categories get shown (and maybe it’s the conspiracy theorist in me talking, but unless the TCAs changed their rules quite recently, it can also have an effect on who wins – when Bob Bain took over as executive producer, the rules were changed to, the producers could choose any nominee other than the one with the fewest votes in that category as the winner)?
(And in the days before Bain, the winners were decided by Fox and the sponsors – and one of the criteria used to select the winner was, “Who is most likely to show up to accept the award?”; in fact, one year, one award showed one nominee and three empty seats with the other nominees’ names on them – no bonus points for guessing who won.)
Also, how would anybody watching know in advance that there would be few movie awards given out on the telecast?

Also note the key words – “in the demo.” Most teenagers aren’t 18 yet, so they wouldn’t be counted in demographics-based ratings, although I’m pretty sure the “millions of viewers” numbers counted everybody.

Congratulations to Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright on their totally deserved wins! Black Panther was great and deserving of Sci-Fi film, but isn’t Avengers: Infinity War every bit as much a Sci-Fi film, and isn’t Black Panther every bit as much an action film. These categorizations make less sense than the Saturns, which is really saying something.

I also am in favor of Thor: Ragnarok getting any love it can. Congrats to Chris Hemsworth for his well-earned Teen Choice Award win for bringing the God of Thunder to the screen in his most entertaining form yet!

For your Goldderby Film Awards consideration: Isle of Dogs for every category, especially Music Score for Alexandre Desplat!
