Hi, Chris. Are GreenBook , IfBealeStreetCouldTalk ,and CanYouEverForgiveMe eligible?

Not Chris, but Green Book is ineligible. It has a budget of 23M. Beale Street and CYEFM are both eligible.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won Best Feature, Best Director and Best Supporting Female.

But it was eligible outside International Film category (notice how Crouching Tiger wasn’t nominated in that category). The Favourite is only eligible in International film category and can’t get more nomination that this.

It’s weird how Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Elle and Pan’s Labyrinth were all eligible outside International.

What is the eligibility criteria and why The Favourite isn’t eligible for other categories like Crouching Tiger?

What is the eligibility criteria and why The Favourite isn’t eligible for other categories like Crouching Tiger?

The Favourite is a mostly British production, about British royalty (story), shot in Britian, with foreign financing, with a mostly foreign cast and crew. They have a formula on their website as to how a film is eligible.

The Artist was a co_production and co-financing feature with The Weinstein Company. Thus it was eligible.

Producers, Director, Writer, Actors, crew. an “American story” or shot in America. That’s how you qualify.

Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress at the Spirits for Elle.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won Best Feature, Best Director and Best Supporting Female.

Neither were nominated for Foreign Film. They had American producers. Thus they were not foreign productions and they could be nominated everywhere. If you are placed in Foreign Film, you cannot be nominated or win anything else.

Melissa McCarthy takes another hit here, as first the Gotham Awards and now the Independent Spirit Awards notice Grant and not her. I suspect that If Beale Street Could Talk wins feature, director, and supporting female, with the wealth spread out evenly to other films in all other categories (Driver for BlacKkKlansman in supporting male, Close for The Wife in female lead, Hawke for First Reformed in male lead, Jenkins for Private Life in screenplay, Mulligan for We The Animals in cinematography, Bini for You Were Never Really Here in editing, Burnham for Eighth Grade in first screenplay, and Sorry To Bother You in first feature).

Some weird snubs. BlackKklansman did not do well – how ironic is it that the white guy was nominated? My heart breaks for Melissa McCarthy, again.

What’s surprising is Beale Street missing screenplay here and Gothams

I really was hoping Alex Wolff would get the recognition he deserves here, disappointing.

Hoping Collete can take the prize home and thus boast her Oscar nom chances

Melissa McCarthy not nominated? She was very good at Can You Ever Forgive Me? and actually my favorite female performance of the year. I love Eighth Grade and elated to see it increase its chance to sneak in BP at Oscar. How come Thomasin Mackenzie got in as supporting actress? She’s clearly the lead in the movie.
