I am revisiting the 2020 (films released in 2019) lineup for Best Picture. Looking at the nominees, this has to be the best lineup that I’ve seen.
Do you agree?
Do you agree with the winner?
Were there any snubbed films?
Did any film not belong in the BP lineup?
What are your thoughts?Parasite

Ford v Ferarri
The Irishman
JoJo Rabbit
Joker
Little Women
Marriage Story
1917
Once Upon a Time in HollywoodFebruary 16, 2022 at 12:39 pm #1204805230More like the most overrated lineup ever.
ReplyCopy URLFYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
February 16, 2022 at 12:46 pm #1204805237I would have nominated 4 out of the 9 (Parasite, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Little Women and 1917). My main snubs were Knives Out and Booksmart. Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, and Joker would not be close for me. Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit were just outside my top 9.
To compare to other recent years:
– 2021: 4/8
– 2019: 2/8
– 2018: 7/9
– 2017: 4/9
– 2016: 2/8So yeah 2018 was the peak by a mile for me.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 16, 2022 at 12:47 pm #1204805240For me, 2020 was Parasite and then a huge gap to everyone else.
My favorite year in recent memory was 2011. Social Network (robbed), Inception, Black Swan, King’s Speech.

Call Me By Your Name
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk
Get Out
Lady Bird
Phantom Thread
The Post
The Shape of Water
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, MissouriI mean CMBYN, Get Out, Lady Bird and Phantom Thread all in one year? Divine!
Plus, A Fantastic Women winning International Film was the cherry on top of it all

Okay, yes, but TSOW and The Post kinda ruined it for me.

Three BillboardsThe Darkest Hour is not great but Gary Oldman saves it completely, I can’t hate on that movie just because of him. Three Billboards… not my cup of tea, but I can’t say it’s bad.

2011 was a fantastic year and highlighted what the top 10 could do at its best. Great mix of movies across a lot of genres and even had an animated film in the lineup (Toy Story 3). I could’ve argued for The Town to slip in over Winter’s Bone but it’s nice that a smaller movie was even able to make it in. The regular moviegoer was bound to have seen at least half of them without trying too hard.

Town should have been in there. What a great movie year.

Right ??? Fffff
And the fact that this lineup was entirely white (and mostly male) outside of Parasite just doesn’t sit right with me, idc. Thankfully the right movie won without a doubt
And I think 2017 and 2018 cleared
