Cats is HFPA catnip. They are nominating it everywhere they can.

Folks, don’t you realize that Cats was practically made for the Globes to shower with love? Haha

I mean even if the film bombs critically and commercially, it will still pick up nods for Picture, Actor, Actress, Supp Actress, and Song. The Oscars and other awards groups won’t touch the film of course, but the HFPA sure will because it’s the “musical” this year.

Just because Cats is a musical doesn’t mean it’s going to do well. Divisive reception is one thing, but it’s already being panned. Also, it’s pretty unlikely that musical theatre fans will rally behind it, because while the original show may have been popular when it first came out, nowadays it’s widely regarded as mediocre and pointless.

Whats the deal with the laundromat. Is it a comedy or a drama?

Interesting. If it goes comedy, She could  win the globe over Zellweger. That would be an epic showdown.

I also believe Judy/Zellweger will go Drama. Its a biopic including Judy Garland’s opioid abuse and seems to only have singing during stage scenes.

Marion Cotilard’s La Vie En Rose is almost the same exact story and was put in Comedy/Musical. So im not sure where Judy will go. Judy looks like it will way more musical than La Vie En Rose but I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

I’m pretty sure I already got the twist from the trailer lol but Emilia is def coming for that Comedy nomination. It also looks like she might’ve chosen this project because she related to the character with her aneurysms. Looks cute and hopefully she sticks to comedy since that seems to be her strength/focus.

The only nomination I am fairly confident about is Helen Mirren for The Good Liar. If the novel is anything to go by, her role is baity, and could compete in drama or (dark) comedy. After all, they seem to love her, so if the film is a dud this wouldn’t be the first time they have nominated her for mediocre films (like The Leisure Seeker, Hitchcock, Trumbo etc)
