Just saw an early screening of Booksmart last night, and you guys are going to want to be sure to put this into your comedy/musical predictions. This movie is going to be BIG. Like, Lady Bird-level big. Also, important to note that while Beanie Feldstein is the bigger face and has the funnier role, Kaitlyn Dever does better with the drama and holds most of the emotional and impactful beats of the movie, so I’m not sure how that will translate to Globe noms or which they’ll gravitate towards, but take that as you will. Just a phenomenal movie. It’s by far my favorite of the year so far, and it’ll have a concrete place set in my top ten by year’s end. Sweet and hilarious and fun and shocking and heart-wrenching and healing all in one. Oh, and Olivia Wilde’s direction is AWESOME, so she could definitely spoil at the Globes too. I don’t remember who asked about Lisa Kudrow’s chances at a nom, and those chances are zero. I don’t think she even has five total minutes of screen time, and if any supporting actress is getting a nod from this movie, it’ll be Billie Lourd (who is, by the way, the funniest person in the movie and actually completely deserves awards attention for her bat$!*# crazy performance).

Likely supporting but at the GG’s, I wouldn’t be shocked for Lead Drama.

Started reading the Jojo Rabbit script. I haven’t read it in-depth yet, but after just kind of scanning through most of it, I’d advise people to take Johansson out of their predictions. I can’t make a judgment on the film’s award chances as a whole yet (I’ll be reading it in full soon and will discuss when I’m finished), but Johansson’s role is extremely simplistic, and the focus of the film falls on Davis and McKenzie. McKenzie’s role seems to be much more complex and layered, and at least until I see both performances, I’d say that she has a much better chance than Johansson, just seeing as how she has WAY more to work with.

Some people having Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile in comedy makes my eye twitch. That movie is in NO WAY a comedy or musical, oh god.

I read the script in-depth and I’d advise everybody to just take it out of your predictions, since it sucks. It’s 7th-grade level writing.

Wanted to update my predictions, but there is a few things I am not certain about. Looks like DiCaprio and Pitt are both leads in OUATIH and both are getting great reviews, but I still think that Pitt is more likely to be frauded into Supporting. As for Joker, it looks more like a Drama to me, but I have a gut feeling that it might go Comedy anyway.
