Cesar award nominations come out on Jan. 29th. Here are this year’s Lumieres award winners:

Best Film: Les Miserables

Best Director: Roman Polanski, J’Accuse (An Officer and a Spy)

Best Actor: Roschdy Zem, Oh Mercy

Best Actress: Noemie Merlant, Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Best New Actor: Alexis Manenti, Les Miserables

Best New Actress: Nina Maurice, Camille

Best Screenplay: Les Miserables

Best Cinematography: Claire Mathon, Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Best Score: Alexandre Desplat, Adults in the Room and M

Best Animated Film: I Lost My Body

Best Documentary: M

Best International Co-Production: It Must Be Heaven

So I looked it up and Alexis Manenti plays Chris, the despicable white cop.

If Polanski wins Best Director at the Cesars it would be his fifth win. They have a rule at the Cesars that Best Picture and Best Director cannot be won by the same movie so I would think Celine Sciamma could win for Portrait of a Lady on Fire? Looking forward to the nominations on Wednesday!

I am so looking forward to tomorrow’s Cesar awards nominations! Usually the Lumieres winners get nominated but last year’s New Actor winner was the amazing Felix Maritaud for Sauvage (Wild) and he was not nominated at the Cesars ):

I am looking to see how well Portrait Of A Lady On Fire does tomorrow – I think it will get more nominations than Les Miserables due to it’s technical achievements but it will be close. They have 7 nominees for BP, Director, Actor and Actress, and then five in the other categories.

Hoping as always that many of the nominees will show up here where I live in our French film festival in July!
