I caved in and saw Joker. They only had one cop no scanners and stuff like before so it made me feel slightly better in a weird way….and I was only one of 5 people in the theater (also saw maleficent 2. Two movies for 15 bucks deal they do before major hollidays). It was ok….didn’t wow me. As a whole, the movie was a B for me but JP was great. I think he is getting a nod….not sure about the win though.

Don’t be too proud. I figured I had to since Joker would still be out in two weeks and I really want to see Ford v Ferrari and Midway so might as well get that fear out of my system now

What matters for me is that you went to see it. Not if you liked Joaquin’s perf or not.
We don’t have the same security issues here and thinking about that factor before even going in is not easy.

Saying that, i really am interested in seeing how actor works out now. The way I see it we have two front runners (JP and AD), two dark horses (EM and LD), and four wild cards (CB, TE, RD and Pryce). I don’t see Netflix going hardcore campaigning for both Murphy and Pryce and honestly the Oscars Love a comeback so I think Eddie wins there in terms of Netflix support.

This is what I think the lineup will be:
    1) JP
    2) AD
    3) EM
    4) TE
    5) LD

Not even listing Banderas as a contender feels unwise, even though I’m not currently predicting him.

    My lineup is

    1: Joaquin Phoenix
    2: Adam Driver
    3: Leonardo DiCaprio
    4: Robert De Niro
    5: Jonathan Pryce

    For Your Consideration.

Best Picture: Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, Joker
Best Director: Bong-Joon Ho, Taika Waititi, Todd Phillips
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Roman Griffin Davis
    Best Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, Song Kang-Ho, Sam Rockwell
Best Supporting Actress: Thomasin McKensie, Cho Yeo-Jeong
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit, Joker
    Best Original Screenplay: Parasite

Some people are predicting Leo to miss but I think the industry will love this movie and nominate it across the board. I think it’s only chance for a win though is Brad Pitt (likely). I think Leo is solidly 3rd-4th in actor but not a threat to win

I feel like De Niro is becoming increasingly likely got the 4th slot as well so really the 5th spot is the one that could go to any of a few

Off Topic- But Please Help Me Here

Why hasn’t been Jake Gyllenhaal able to pull another nomination?

    2013-He deserved BSA nod(Prisoners)
    2014-He deserved BA nod(NightCrawler)

Is he terrible at campaigning,Does he simply never campaigns or is he facing too many movies syndrome?

He’s got many projects in the works and some of them look interesting.
He’s not even 40yrs yet. Time is on his side.
Nightcrawler is a divisive film and likely had some academy members crying to mommy.

He was my personal MVP in Prisoners but his costars had flashier roles.

    I don’t think he’s suffering from over-exposure.

I always have my fingers crossed for him

I agree. Leo in 5th shows how strong a field this is. There is always a slight chance he could miss as anyone who is not a frontunner can but I am not betting on it.

    5th? According to GD odds?

Not that I wouldn’t mind seeing that.

Jake deserved the WIN for Nightcrawler.

Why has Joaquin Phoenix slipped in the Experts rankings? I just saw Joker and he was absolutely phenomenal. Rooting for him for the win. He should have an Oscar by now (The Master).

    Experts are also abandoning Leo…
