Kaluuya was deserving nominee but he wouldn’t have had made it if it weren’t for allegations against James Franco who won GG Comedy that year.

Washington would have missed, Kaluuya made every precursor and was in a BP-nominated film so he would have been safe

Still pissed that Franco didn’t get his second nomination. I hate the world for that. Still not over it.

I just love movies. And awards.

Just realized if Bale gets nominated for FvF, he’s gonna tie Brando’s all time record for most acting nominations for male actors in 1 decade with 5 nominations.

Also Jack Nicholson who had 5noms in 1970s.

It’s sad what he has done to himself…used to be one of the finest human specimens in the film industry. Like damn.

I just got back from checking the rankings for Best Actor in 2018 and I just noticed that there were NO snubees hahaha. There were only 3 great actings that year: Chalamet, Oldman, Day-Lewis. The other 2 were fillers. There had to be 5 nominees, so they seemed like random actors that somehow got in. (James Franco was ruled out due to #MeToo scandals) Kaluuya got a totally undeserved and random nomination for Get Out and even Denzel Washington got in for a flopped movie called Roman J Israel, Esq that no one saw. Now I came to the conclusion that this year is stacked only because of Netflix, who put Driver, De Niro, Murphy and Pryce in the race. Otherwise it would be a quite predictable lineup: Phoenix, DiCaprio, Banderas, Egerton and there is room for one more person, who could be Bale, Paul Walter Hauser and other decent but not great actings.

you’re wrong. Daniel Kaluuya deserved the Oscar that year. He was better than the overrated Chalamet and even the good Oldman. The only filler and undeserved nom of that year was Denzel Washington who got in based on name check when we had Gyllenhaal

    FYC

    Taron Egerton = Rocketman
    Joaquin Phoenix = Joker
Eddie Murphy = Dolemite is my Name

    Best actress :

    Supporting Actor
Brad Pitt = Once upon a time in Hollywood

    Supporting Actress =
Margot Robbie = Any of her two performances.
Dame Maggie Smith = Downton Abbey
    Octavia Spencer = Luce

Finally caught up on FvF. Damon is great, but a nomination isn’t in the cards for him obviously. Bale was fantastic and technically has a shot if the movie really resonates with voters, but I have a hard time seeing him overcome Pryce, DiCaprio, or Banderas.

It always slays me when people refer to weak years and empty categories and thin competition. That B’S every year.

I have to disagree here. I think it’s just a fact that the performances of one year can collectively be much more competitive than those in a different year. For example, supporting actress this year is one of the weakest categories in a long time, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say so. Claire foy, Margot Robbie, Emily blunt and others competing in the category last year would have had a much easier time this year imo.
