Two blacks aren’t going to be nominated.

Why not? There were two black lead actress nominees in frigging 1972, why not now? Sure it hasn’t happened since but I’d argue there hasn’t an obvious opportunity to nominate two black female leads in the same year (which has nothing to do with whether or not they were deserving). SAG has never had dual black Best Actress nominees before now and yet here we are.

Erivo isn’t even competing for a win so how would she split votes with Renee? As far as Charlize Theron goes, Bombshell will go blank on all four of its nominations. Judy Garland vs Megyn Kelly? It’s a wrap. Renee has this.

This. Two Time Academy Award Winner Renee Zellweger is the closest thing we have to a lock right now.

Y’all just don’t understand the dynamics of this game. Scarjo has no chance because Theron will block her the access to the first place. It’s definitely Zellweger to lose, I mean we read everywhere “Renée Zellweger V. (Someone)” then name of that person keeps changing… Scarjo, Theron, Nyong’o lol. Well, that means that she (Renée) is actually THE frontrunner.

What is the precedent? Renee will fight against 2 people with broader support for their movies. Can she repeat a Theron or Cotillard (with no nom other than BA)? The year honestly isn’t that weak. This seems more like a The Wife type than a Monster one but without the overdue factor and with the Judy Garland appeal.

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Jodie (Killing Eve), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)

La Vie en Rose also won makeup and had a 3rd nomination for costume.

    Thanks. Missed that.

I honestly think that to win as a nominee without above the line support, you need: loads of passion votes, a really strong overdue factor or an embarrassingly weak competition.

The thing is we ABSOLUTELY have no idea how Oscar voters will perceive Little Women. It still has a very high critical reception, and it has already caused fuels for being snubbed at other awards so I think Oscar voters can very well embrace it and Saoirse coatails along the way too. Erivo can be a lock if she scores a BAFTA nod, or she may get Amy Adam’ed, IDK!

These types of confusion truly scare me and if these turn out to be true, we can get a handful of interesting contenders like Lupita and Awkwafina being left off for basic typical Oscar bait performances!

Lupita has accomplished an unparalleled acting feat in Us. This performance should be undeniable. It pains me that some people cannot share in reveling in how awesome her work is because they simply cannot see it.

If you are one of those people, watch it tonight. Maybe smoke a blunt before? Think actively about why her characters do what they do. She should be sweeping a la Blanchett.

Oscars is not payola. Ervio may or may not get in. She did score SAG, GG, so common sense would say she gets in but I think AMPAS will go for one of their own previous Oscar winners (Lupita).

Let me just remind everyone that Zellweger is not a lock to win.

She faces a Tree in a movie that’s going to get BP nomination.

and she faces the transformation of the year in a movie that’s peaking right now got the most SAG nominations. Theron is everywhere while Renee is absent.

Winning with 1 nomination is very hard especially a second one.

Judy didn’t get a guild nomination for makeup or costume. It’s basically an actress contender only.

Last time Ronan was snubbed at the Globes and SAG she didn’t get a Oscar nomination. She is by no reason a lock.
