Personal ranking (roughly, I really like them all) from what I’ve seen so far. Definitely not a thin field when you broaden the narrow Oscar horizon:

    1. Renée Zellweger – Judy
    2. Awkwafina – The Farewell
    3. Emma Thompson – Late Night
    4. Julianne Moore – Gloria Bell
    5. Beanie Feldstein – Booksmart
    6. Constance Wu – Hustlers
    7. Scarlett Johansson – Marriage Story
    8. Lupita Nyong’o – Us
    9. Jessie Buckley – Wild Rose
    10. Susan Sarandon – Blackbird

I am six minutes into Midsommar right now and I am blown away by Pugh. She really is the future of her generation.

Then what are you doing on here?

Awkwfina isn’t getting nominated but I agree Awkwafina(The FAREWELL) > Scarlett Johansson(Marriage Story)

At best Woodard is this year’s Ethan Hawke. But I doubt she gets that kind of support from critics.

    Not even that.

I found Lupita more interesting here than I did in her Oscar win.
She could do well with more esoteric Awards like Saturn, but her climb towards an Oscar nom seems remote atm. The genre doesn’t help.
    But who knows? It’s October.

Lupita was already nominated for a Saturn award and lost to Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween (lol).

    This race is so boring.

Anyone who would have played Judy Garland would have won an Oscar.

And to waste it on giving Renee with a Z another Oscar when she’s been AWOL the last decade?

    SAD!

She hasn’t won yet, aside from the needed boost to her career. The race is still wide open…isnt it?

Don’t be rude. Jamie Lee Curtis was absolutely awards-worthy and would have made a great Academy Award nominee for her outstanding work in Halloween.

I’m only laughing at the irony of an actress currently in the Oscar conversation losing a genre award to someone who who was never within striking distance. I haven’t seen the new Halloween.
