While it’s certainly not a good sign for Johansson, I’m pretty sure she’ll be fine. She’s in one of this year’s biggest contenders, and her category is pretty empty. Also, while it seems most people prefer Driver, Scarlett still got her fair share of praise. Most people preferred Bradley Cooper over Lady Gaga last year, and Gaga still got in, and in a much more competitive field as well. I’d be shocked if she didn’t get nominated.

I think he’s talking about her winning

I’ll take Gotham with a grain of salt (especially when they gave the award to Toni over Glenn last year) but every year at least one of the nominees gets the Oscar nom. Usually two. So either Awkwafina or Alfre could get in. Maybe even both

    A cute start

Glenn losing the Gotham showed a sign of weakness.

That’s like arguing blackkklansman was automatically doomed from winning screenplay when it also missed Gotham last year but Driver still got nominated for that movie there. It’s a jury of 5 people lol most critics circles are bigger than this too. u can back to the win arguments if spirits also snubs her. it’s October lol

Lol, I’ve never seen so many people go crazy over the Gotham noms before. Honestly, based on the reviews for Marriage Story, it makes sense why and/or how ScarJo could miss out. Most of the attention was placed on Adam Driver’s Performance and the Gothams like to spread the wealth amongst their indie nominees… highlighting great performances in smaller films. Still, she received good reviews and she’s a Hollywood Star… that combination plus the fact that she is overdue for her 1st nomination will help her score a nom (or potentially 2!).

She isn’t a factor to win (as of right now) though. I think Renee, Charlize, Awkwafina and Alfre all have more buzz and heat in the Lead Actress race at this particular moment.

ok so I always go off when I read something like this but now I’m wondering if I could be wrong. I’m genuinely asking: can someone give me an example of a review that highlighted Adam’s performance more than Scarlett’s? Everything I’ve read praised both equally.

FYI: Johansson got nominated for Under the Skin and Don Jon but not her potential “Oscar winning performance” in Marriage Story 😂

Geez 24. I’m not sure from where you’re basing your hunches on, but Scarlett can still win this.

Johansson is not winning and she’s aware of it. She’s only fighting for a nomination. She can’t win. I love her though

I’m starting to see weakness with Scarlett, but nonetheless y’all are reading way, WAY too much into these nominations. They’ve only been giving out Actor/Actress awards for a few years, but in that time:

-Miles Teller made it in over JK Simmons in Whiplash

-Brie Larson in Short Term 12 won over Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine

-Bel Powley in Diary of a Teenage Girl won over Brie Larson in Room

Y’all are taking this seriously as a precursor? I have to laugh, their voting pattern is so wacky and inconsistent and couldn’t be further from how industry awards vote. There’s not nearly enough evidence yet to suggest that this hurts or helps anyone in the race.

If (and the key word is if) she misses globe nomination, Then I would be concerned.
