I still think Tom Hanks could upset Pitt, despite his having the lone nomination from his film. I’m predicting Pitt, of course, but Hanks has something going for him: an enormous affection not only for him but for the character he portrays in his movie. I think Hanks is actually in 2nd place, with Pacino and/or Pesci in 3rd and 4th (it’s so close between the two), and Hopkins got the fifth slot. If there is going to be an upset in this category it will be Tom Hanks doing what Sylvester Stallone wasn’t able to do a few years ago – be the lone nominee for a film and still win the Oscar!

And Brad Pitt belongs in Best Actor, not this category. I do wish voters would consider that when they mark their ballots.

Such a sad lack of diversity in this category in a year of strong supporting roles. I will never forgive Sony for not even bothering to campaign Asier. Anyone from Parasite would have been welcome too. Did we really need to see 4 actors (Pitt, Hanks, Pesci and Pacino) Oscar nominated for characters so deeply within their comfort zones? I mean at least Hopkins was doing something different to the rest of his career…

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

Saw The Lighthouse again and man Dafoe was snubbed and robbed this seaosn.

He played a difficult role and he executed it to perfection.Pattinson is amazing too but Dafoe is just on whole another level.

Very sad for him not even getting a nomination.

All 5 nominees are deserving. I would’ve swapped Hopkins for Jamie Fox though

I’m so happy that Brad won at SAGs. I think, he’s really coming for that Oscar. This is exciting!

Haven’t seen Just Mercy yet but this scene of Hopkins in Two Popes shook me.

Oh my god! I’m so sad Dafoe and Kang-ho got snubbed! They deserved better! Anyway, I love the nominated works. They are fantastic! I think they all deserve to win. Oh my god, it’s so difficult to choose one. Pitt is winning and I’m very fine with it! I’m so happy.
