Darlings, I said it a long time ago, when I saw Pain and Glory. Penélope Cruz deserves a Best Supporting Actress nod if not the win, and so does Asier Etxeandia in Best Supporting Actor. Banderas is definitely a contender so I don’t need to say anything more about him.

It will if Bryce Dallas Howard gets in for Rocketman. Lol

So in other words, it’s not happening.

Hello, everyone! This is my first post on the site! 🙂 I think this is the hardest category to predict this year – three contenders are in a good position to receive nominations, but I’m really unsure about the last two spots. <p style=”text-align: left;”>Best Supporting Actress
<p style=”text-align: left;”>1. Laura Dern in Marriage Story (overdue veteran in a strong vehicle) 2. Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers (well-known performer, well-liked performance in a box office success) 3. Margot Robbie in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood / Bombshell (young starlet with multiple hits this year) 4. Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey (well-recognizable & popular veteran in a box office success film with cult-following) 5. Kathy Bates in Richard Jewell (well-known veteran, in a supposedly baity part directed by Clint Eastwood)
Honorable mentions: Zhao Shuzhen in The Farewell, Florence Pugh & Meryl Streep in Little Women; Scarlett Johansson & Thomasin McKenzie in Jojo Rabbit.

Darling, you’re not relevant but yet you’re right.

My post just disappeared when I tried to edit it…

So once again,

I think this is the hardest category to predict this year – three contenders are in a good position to receive nominations, but I’m really unsure about the last two spots.

Best Supporting Actress

1. Laura Dern in Marriage Story (overdue veteran in a strong vehicle)
2. Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers (well-known performer, well-liked performance in a box office success)
3. Margot Robbie in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood / Bombshell (young starlet with multiple hits this year)

4. Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey (well-recognizable & popular veteran in a box office success film with cult-following)

Safe: Dern (Marriage Story), Robbie (Bombshell)
Need and want to happen: Bates (Richard Jewell)

Everyone else in the category can fight to the death for the last two spots.

Do you all think Penelope Cruz has a shot for a nomination for “Pain and Glory”?

At this point yes she does. Great notices for her, and an Oscar winner.
A lot may depend on the film’s overall reception. But it wouldnt surprise me to see her in the mix through the season.

I’d say for that to happen, Pain and Glory has to be a bigger awards contender all overall. Cruz’s individual reviews are not strong enough for her to be in the conversation based on the individual buzz alone. She needs a strong film.
